В книгу вошли наиболее интересные художественные произведения ("Завтрак у Тиффани" и "Другие голоса, другие комнаты") одного из крупнейших американских прозаиков послевоенного поколения Трумена Капоте (1924-1984).
"Другие голоса, другие комнаты" (1948) - южноготическая история о детской невинности в испорченном, распадающемся мире - имела успех как у критики, так и у публики. В повести "Завтрак у Тиффани" (1958) действие происходит в Нью-Йорке, и жанр ее можно охарактеризовать как социальную комедию.
Где бы ни происходило действие - в таинственном мрачном доме в глуши или в шумном центре Нью-Йорка, герои Капоте - это всегда тонко чувствующие неустроенные люди, взыскующие любви и подлинных человеческих ценностей.

Truman Capote was an American writer whose non-fiction, stories, novels and plays are recognised literary classics, including the novella Breakfast at Tiffany's (1958) and In Cold Blood (1965), which he labeled a "non-fiction novel." At least 20 films and TV dramas have been produced from Capote novels, stories and screenplays.
He was born as Truman Streckfus Persons to a salesman Archulus Persons and young Lillie Mae. His parents divorced when he was four and he went to live with his mother's relatives in Monroeville, Alabama. He was a lonely child who learned to read and write by himself before entering school. In 1933, he moved to New York City to live with his mother and her new husband, Joseph Capote, a Cuban-born businessman. Mr. Capote adopted Truman, legally changing his last name to Capote and enrolling him in private school. After graduating from high school in 1942, Truman Capote began his regular job as a copy boy at The New Yorker. During this time, he also began his career as a writer, publishing many short stories which introduced him into a circle of literary critics. His first novel, Other Voices, Other Rooms, published in 1948, stayed on The New York Times bestseller list for nine weeks and became controversial because of the photograph of Capote used to promote the novel, posing seductively and gazing into the camera.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Capote remained prolific producing both fiction and non-fiction. His masterpiece, In Cold Blood, a story about the murder of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas, was published in 1966 in book form by Random House, became a worldwide success and brought Capote much praise from the literary community. After this success he published rarely and suffered from alcohol addiction. He died in 1984 at age 59.

Милейший, очаровательный и местами грустненький Капоте.

Завтрак у Тиффани.
Кажется, эта повесть войдёт в моё "избранное". С первых же страниц очаровывает Холли Голайтли: наивная, даже глуповатая, эксцентричная и подчёркнуто самостоятельная особа. Всеми поступками она стремится доказать, что переросла своё прошлое, что прожигать жизнь - это и есть её призвание, но неизменно всплывает "я та же худая девчонка, ворующая индюшачьи яица". А написать на визитке кроме имени только одно слово: "путешествует" - мне кажется хорошей идеей.

Душная атмосфера нью-орлеанских болот, обитатели старого дома один другого страннее, жизнь придавлена зноем. И мальчик, по стечению обстоятельств, оказавшийся там. Он ехал к отцу, которого никогда не видел, а оказался в пугающей недомолвками истории. Мне кажется, из этой книги получился бы неплохой хоррор-фильм.

I didn't watch a film and probably it's for the best cause I didn't expect anything beforehand. Still was surprised when it turned out that Holly's hair color (tawny streaks, strands of albino-blond and yellow) wasn't dark brown as on a famous picture of Audrey Hepburn.
The most strong impression about the book concerns, to no surprise, Holly.
She's smart. Smarter than she tries to look. Alive as full of life, energy, action. And scared. Scared of staying still, not changing and being vulnerable by completely opening to someone, letting them become important. She's desperate to find her sacred place as at Tiffany's, but I'm not sure if she's actually able to. Nevertheless she's devoted to it. And you can't catch her playing out of tune.
It was interesting to watch Holly and her influence on people.

Рассказ о девушке которая погрязла в своих авантюрах. Она искреннее в них верит.
Жизнь для нее - это не стать прилежной женой и хорошей мамой, это слава и известность, это события и люди. А когда "лезешь на стену" спасает любимое место - у Тиффани, место где тебе не навредят.
Любимая цитата:
"А диких зверей любить нельзя: чем больше ты их любишь, тем они сильнее становятся. А когда набираются сил - убегают в лес".
Жизнь для нее - это не стать прилежной женой и хорошей мамой, это слава и известность, это события и люди. А когда "лезешь на стену" спасает любимое место - у Тиффани, место где тебе не навредят.

особенно понравилось "Дети в день рождения", "Другие голоса, другие комнаты", "Голоса травы"
Как человеку, далекому от одиночества, может быть так близка эта тема?
при чем сам "Завтрак у Тиффани" самый слабый рассказ, правда фильм еще хуже..
