The Memory Palace of Bones: Exploring Embodiment Through the Skeletal System

Rate this book
The Memory Palace of Exploring Embodiment Through the Skeletal System is an unprecedented exploration of the anatomy of the bones of the body, and a unique set of reflections on the role each individual bone plays in our lives, looking at both its physical and energetic contributions.
Written and presented in an imaginative and highly readable style, the book describes each individual bone and, where appropriate, the surrounding joints. It combines the anatomical expertise of the authors with their appreciation for the beauty of the body, presenting a unique perspective that values extensive clinical expertise as well as imagination as a source of wisdom and depth.
Seeing and discussing bones as a wisdom source is a topic that until now has never been systematically covered. The Memory Palace of Bones will be read and treasured by practitioners and students of massage therapy, bodywork, movement professionals, Zero Balancers, chiropractors, osteopaths, Rolfers, body-centered psychotherapists, students and teachers of yoga, performing artists and other health professionals as well as by laymen wanting a greater understanding of and connection to their bodies.

This book has touched me on a deeper level in my knowledge about the human body. With great awe and admiration for our bones, each bone is described separately in a beautiful way in this book. The metaphors that have been used for this have really appealed to my imagination and have made it so much more clear on a deeper level how important our bones are. Beforehand I was able to make some estimate of what the book would be about and what would be discussed and at the same time it exceeded my expectations. At the beginning of the book, it is also advised not to read the book just once, but perhaps twice in a row and maybe again in a few months or a year. I have read it twice in a row and where the first time I already benefited a lot from the information about the physical functions of the bones, the second time I was able to get much more into what the bones energetically stand for and what they have a connection with in our lives. The writers each write a piece about the bone discussed, which makes the reading interesting and varied. A lot of knowledge is shared about the theory and practice. You can really tell that the writers have dedicated their lives to their work and have a lot of admiration for the human body. They also show this here and there by linking poetry to certain bones, because they simply cannot find words that can describe their love for their work better than the piece of poetry in question. As far as I'm concerned, it's highly recommended to read. After each chapter, they give the reader physical exercises so that you get to know your own body better and can 'feel' your own bones separately. They are simple exercises, but very effective exercises. In short, I recommend reading and descend into your own body and gain admiration for your bones.

A love letter to the bones of the human body. Filled with lots of poetic and esoteric chapters. I feel bad but I didn’t like this book at all. It didn’t resonate with me.
