William & Catherine: Their Romance and Royal Wedding in Photographs

Rate this book
Perhaps because we have no royalty, Americans especially are fascinated by the pageantry and fairy-tale romance of British weddings. Few events capture the world's heart and imagination like a British royal wedding. In 1981, we were enchanted as Prince Charles wed lovely Lady Di, generating worldwide attention and massive sales of wedding-related products. As the young managing editor of a photo-news agency, Cohen directed a team of five photojournalists who covered the wedding for several major news magazines.

Through more than two hundred spectacular photographs (including 80 pages of their wedding alone), William & Catherine recounts the couple's wildly different childhoods, their romance and engagement, the events leading up to the wedding, and the grand affair itself--watched by over two billion worldwide. Here are the massive crowds lining the parade route, the sparkling celebrities at Westminster Abbey, the bride's spectacular gown, “The Kisses” on Buckingham Palace's balcony, and the worldwide celebrations. Also included is a brief pictorial history of British royal weddings from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1840 to Prince Charles and Lady Diana in 1981.

Including a brief history of British royal weddings, fascinating detailed captions, and a foreword by renowned royal watcher Robert Jobson, author of William & Kate, The Love Story and royal correspondent for four major British newspapers, this book magnificently illustrates the pomp, the pageantry, the history and enchantment of the romance that charmed the world.

You all know that I'm a royalty fan. I was one of those millions of people around the world that got up before the roosters to watch the Royal Wedding back in April. So I was very excited to see this book at my library. The book has gorgeous photos of the wedding of William and Catherine. Some I had seen and some I hadn't seen. What was really standout about this book is all of the information about English royal weddings past. The focus is from Queen Victoria on but it was very interesting to see the most recent royal wedding in the historical context. There are tons of pictures of these previous weddings as well as a lot of good information that I didn't know.

Bottom line: This is a pretty quick read (as it's mostly pictures) with some great information for my fellow royal watchers.

A very easy read as the photographs are the focal point of this book – large glossy photos on very expensive feeling paper. There are a lot of photos that appear in other biographies, but a few too that were new to me. What made this book different from other biographies about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge was that it highlighted other royal weddings beginning with Queen Victoria. The photos of these earlier weddings were spectacular, and Cohen provided insights into their love stories that I hadn’t known before. There wasn’t much new in regards to text about William and Catherine, but what was there was quite accurate so if you were to make this your only royal biography to read you won’t be disappointed!

Lovely pictures. Went from the romance through the wedding. Had some historical information about weddings that came before. Not a lot of narrative; just enough to keep one informed.

Beautiful photographs and interesting historical background make this a fun and interesting book to read and enjoy. The details in the photographs is amazing. You can see the fibers in the carpets, the fabrics in dresses, the details of jewelry. It's wonderful how much detail modern photography equipment can capture.

Very fast read...gorgeous photos...nice stories. This is like your own copy of the Duke and Duchess' wedding photo album. Now I'm just waiting for their baby album...
