EDIT: I have been super harsh and disrespectful in my review and while I utterly hated the book, the author didn't deserve it.
I will sum up in just a few point, politely I hope, why I could not stand the sight of this book and why my rating is so severe.
+ The pace is uneven. The beginning flew by far too fast compared to the rest of the book. We went to her background story to a fully set plot in a couple of chapters.
+ I found the characters borderline disgusting. We all like asshole but I tend to draw a major line to stupidity and cruelty, hence why I don't really do dark romance. The story started with the heroine as a prisoner, forced to fight daily to eat. She was almost feral as she wasn't allowed to change to her human skin but not feral enough to go on a murder spree once out of the ring or to be unable to make her own decision. But when the wolf alpha saved her and decided she was his mate he: forced a pack bond on her and throw her in a cage because she wasn't so kin with the invasion of privacy. He didn't even try to justify his actions and none of the characters but the heroine were particularly bothered by that.
+ With those kind of male characters, you would expect a broken but tough chick like Ariana to flip the bird and get the hell out of here.Mating bond or not, she wasn't raised in a pack and her wolf sure doesn't care about those guys. But for the sake of the story, she was turned into a doormat and it felt like everything that had happened was supposed to be normal.
This was assault. This was kidnapping. This was mind raping. Couldn't anyone see that? Going from a bad place to a lesser bad did not mean she could be treated like crap.
All Ariana has known for last decade is fighting. Her owner has her in the pits tearing through opponents. Other unlucky snatches or slaves or debtors; it doesn't matter. The only rules she has known are: stay to the back of the cage and kill or die. So when her rescue comes about and she's told that her new life involves being a peacemaker, yeah, there's a lot of panic. What does she know about peace? And holding together 4 clans of very different shifters doesn't sound fun at all. No matter that her wolf is shouting that the alpha of each are her mates.
Spoilers ahead. Ok, this started off decent. Ari is tough, she's held it together for a decade plus in the pits. Although, we're never really given an age on her. Anyways, my issues started right after her rescue. Knowing that she's lived in a cage, when she acts out (how quickly they forget her last taste of freedom was as a child) they toss her in a cage?? Wtf? My vote was for her to ditch, or bury him in a ditch, her would-be mate right then and there. Prisoners get cages. Terrified and traumatized mates should not. Knowing all she knows is fighting, he's an ass. Making her angry again and again. He's arrogant, and I don't care if he's an alpha or not, arrogance without compassion is just a jerk in charge, not a leader. His second is no better. She goes from treating Ari like a wounded pup to belittling her. When the other leaders show up after learning that the Silver Shifter is there, at least they are upset over how she's treated. But then Ari goes from tough chick to TSTL. Running away when she's not even sure where she is, no plan on supporting herself other than hunting and hiding, and instead of keeping her head down and learning things she's living like a 15yo ditching her parents. She may kick butt in a fight but when she keeps getting swarmed by hordes of vampires maybe running off alone, or with only 1 guy and no guards, isn't such a good idea. The numbers are just against her. And communication is a zero. She forgives Max, way too quickly in my opinion, and agrees she's his mate and bonds. Nothing more than a kiss with some fangs but seals the bond between them. Ok. But after recognizing that the other three are her mates, does not inform Max of this. In fact, she goes off on a tryst with Cash, after a heavy petting session with Owen, and Max and Owen find out (about Cash, and each other) when she returns and only after she's confronted. I get RH themes. But that's just an open relationship, only half of the couple doesn't realize it. Poor Jett is odd man out at this point, but after watching what's been going on around him with his friends, I have to say he may be the smart one by not getting involved with that madness. So, needless to say Ari's character has me questioning if I want to continue on when the next is released in April. I'm all for RH, I'm all for going after what you want and sexual liberation. But when you commit to one, and know that the mate bonds formed are 1-1 and that's what the other assumes will be, then there needs to be discussions if things are different. Back to that communication thing again.
This book was ruined by chapter 5. Maximus throws Ariana in a cage the 2nd day after freeing her from a life of cages and pit death matches. WTF! It made me absolutely enraged and hate Maximus. Yet she is supposed to be his mate. Something he already knew/felt before he threw her in a cage in his basement and left her in it overnight.
Maximus was domineering and authoritative with Ariana along with the heads of the other clans. No patience or understanding just absolute assholery. He expected her to be bent to his will and rules the day after being freed her entire life. Ariana seemed to be mentally irritated but physically fine with it even going along with things.
The 1st time Jaxx the head of the feline clans meets Ariana he throat punches and physically attacks her when she is trying to escape after being released from the cage at Maximus house. He doesn’t apologize in fact he laughs at her and then precedes to be a total asshole.
It put me so off that I couldn't finish the book. I hated 2 of the mates.
The men are domineering jerks who talk about the heroine like she doesn’t have free will and lock her in a cage when she’s naughty— AFTER knowing she was pretty much tortured with a cage her whole life— and the heroine is all “well, I suppose this makes sense, these dudes are hot, okay.”
She’s a wet paper towel and the dudes are blunt objects with no depth.
I did not finish the book, but I was still compelled to explain the ways in which the book plainly alienated me, because I have rarely felt so incredibly uncomfortable.
It was established that the heroine had been forced to fight in the cage her whole life and that she had been treated as nothing than an animal. This in itself is a sad plot, but not rarely seen. What makes it so horrendous is that the repercussions of stunted growth is not properly adressed in any way, instead it's mating season all out on this woman, who knows jack about the world and what she is. The way that the heroine knows nothing makes her seem child-like, but not always? So, sex is ok? It is very, very icky to me.
What is also unaccepably missing for me is the lack of acknowledgment of trauma. If the character is supposed to have gone something terrible as being forced to fight in a case for years in your life, including killing others, the trauma needs to be addressed and I do not feel like it was properly done in this book.
I really like this one but it had it's problems. I lot of problems. I really like reading this one and now that I've read this I kind of need to read the rest of the series.
So, let's hit the list of missed opportunities. There was no world building at all, like why are the shifter groups warring, how do vampires fit in, how did Ari's shifter parents end up indebted, how are the pit fights allowed, etc. The characters were all one dimensional stereotypes with excuses rather than redeeming qualities. There were no actual relationships built, just cases of "my animal decided for me". Ari is the one supposed to bring everyone together and yet she rolls over for an "alpha" who wants to basically enslave her again? She was supposedly kept captive for years and years, abused and fighting for her life, yet the only fallout is a desire for chocolate milk and snark before going into sexual situations with virtual strangers who try to control her? This was poorly written and lacked the fundamentals required for even mediocre writing. I've added this author to my "Never Again" list.
What a great start to a new series. Ari is the silver shifter and is such a great main character. I love the twist with the 4 mates instead of just 1. Storyline is phenomenal. I won't give away any spoilers but that ending. I need to read the next book. Almost cried that it ended to quickly and on a cliffhanger. Definitely a must read. Author did a fantastic job writing this story. Absolutely loving series!!! Cant wait to read more.
This was a fun RH book without any real end. Seriously, it felt like it just ended mid scene. This was close to a four stars, but the ending brought it down to a firm three. Do I want to read the second book? Yes. Am I going to? Maybe. Depends on the price. It did not make me want to drop a bunch of money to read the next book when it might end like this one did.
dnf 36% umm yeah no. i was having a good time then one of her mates decided to throw her in a cage after knowing how traumatic her past was yet she’s already forgiving him in practically the same chapter? like i love angst but this was not it.
Really great premise. Unfortunately, for me, the execution just didn't make it happen. I just felt that the super rushed plot really undid this book for me. It ended up just barely being cohesive enough to really fit and so I ended up being a little disappointed. I feel like with more time and story development maybe dragging this out a little more this really could have been great. This happens quite a bit with RHN, it seems. Its like the authors are in such a huge hurry to get the female in as many of the male's beds as possible, or at least in a super hurry to make sure each character has just a tiny amount of screen time to bond really quickly with the FMC, that when its time to end the first book, the actual story has really suffered. As it is, everything felt so super rushed that the reactions and decisions made by the characters didn't feel natural. There was no chemistry or relationship development AT ALL. I got a little whiplash as the FMC goes from super hostile trying to murder her mate, to claiming him, to jumping in bed with a different mate within a couple pages. I just wanted to reach in and hit slow motion so we could slow it down enough to really get a more depth full story. I mean dang.. let me catch my breath in there jeez. It just didn't happen and that's unfortunate because what little story was there, was pretty dang good.
FMC, Ariana, has basically spent her life in a cage, owned by a mad man who sends his "pets" into an arena to fight for their lives daily. Almost feral, Ariana has killed time and time again to save her own life. When a new alph male shifter shows up to save her and put an end to the cruelty, she doesn't understand that there is more to life than what she has known. Her first instinct is to flee, again and again. As it turns out Ariana is what the shifters have been waiting for. The silver shifter, fated to bring peace to and unite all the packs of all species. How is she supposed to have this awesome destiny when yesterday she had known nothing but a cage.. well its fantasy so we'll just make her REALLY SUPER adaptable apparently. Now she is off to save the shifters, discovering her wolf is a really greedy girl wanting all the alphas for herself even those outside of her species. As it turns out, Ariana has even more hidden secrets. The vampires have discovered her blood has some unique properties and now shes public enemy number one...
Whew yea all that what happening.. There just wan't enough freaking time in this book for Ariana to even adapt to the first transition from cage to pack life let alone all this other stuff and so when Ariana just 180'd from the feral female to pack savior it gave me more than just whiplash, i had friction burns and everything. I also wan't a fan of the some of the guys being of the mind that they wanted to be the only mate.. Its better when everyone is agreeable and there isn't really any jealousy because other wise it just gets awkward and sad. Pretty sure I'm not going to go for book 2.
For a girl who was in captivity her while life she had more knowledge of sex than she should. She apparently knows cars and food as well. One would expect her to be naive and learning the world again and fearful of men. There was no back story for any of them. Decent story line with horrid execution.
DNF at 39% I was enjoying the beginning, but at about 35% in, the MC became a completely different person and I couldn’t enjoy it anymore. The hero was a douche and the soon to be harem just wasn’t enough to keep me reading. Hard Pass
This is the first book in a titillating shifter reverse harem series. It is full of adventure and drama, but this book is for those over 18, with sex scenes that will keep you turning the pages until the last.
Ariana is a twenty year old wolf shifter who has lived her life in servitude to a vampire. Once she was old enough to fight, after her parents’ death, she was kept in a cage and thrown into the fighting pit, where her life depended on her ability to kill her opponent. Winners ate, though not nearly enough, losers died. Ariana. At a young age became an undefeated favorite.
Maximus, the local wolf alpha, shut the pit down. Some of his pact had been taken and forced to fight. He went in to save the fighters, and put a stop to the abduction of shifters in the New York area.
Saving Ariana was harder than he would ever had expected. She had been forced to stay in her wolf so long she was practically feral. But as soon as he saw her, Maximus knew it she would be worth any price he had to pay. Ariana was the silver shifter of prophesy.
The last silver shifter, a dragon, helped all the clans maintain peace. Since her murder the wolves, dragons, panthers and bears were constantly on the verge of war. Ariana wasn’t really convinced she was the clans’ savior. How could a shifter, born and raised away from the pack broker their peace? Could she even stay with the pack when the vampire that owned her would be out to get her back?
ONE INCREDIBLY AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!! Wow! Talk about unexpected. This dynamic duo works their magic with this little gem. So touching and sincere with a plethora of emotions that will rock you to the core. All the trials and tribulations bring this magnificent read roaring to life brilliantly. The characters were intriguing, complex and realistic. The scenes were so vividly detailed and descriptive that it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Twists and turns abound with unexpected surprises that will keep you spellbound and anxious for whats next. All the drama, uncertainty and fear along with a little suspense and you have one incredible experience. An amazing storyline and strong plot really pulls this little treasure together flawlessly. Remarkable job guys, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
The introduction to this series definitely made me want to continue this series even though I'm usually pretty picky when it comes to paranormal romance and in particular shifter tropes. I had my reservations in the beginning, I was afraid the FMC would keep running away from her mates but I powered through and I'm definitely glad I did.
So very similar to a bunch of other books it’s not even funny !!!
By 49% couldn’t care less what happens and couldn’t stand insta-lust ... one minute her mate is an arrogant prick that puts her in a cage even though he knows she was kept in captivity for many years. And a few hours later he says he’s sorry and she’s ready to jump his bones 🙄🙄🙄
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I wasn’t too sure what to expect, this was a little different from the usual RH shifter romance. It was a surprise from the beginning all the way to the end, which was nice. Excited to see where it goes!
I both like and dislike this book. The overall plot is good, but, it is way too rushed and the end result is that all the characters and the plot itself fall flat. There's no depth to this book. However, I can see the potential this book had and what the following books could have. Although, I have not decided if I’ll read the coming books or not.
Wow a fantastic read. The book has you right from the first page, it has you on the edge of your seat with wondering what is going to happen next. What a great beginning, Its fast paced and paced with action and emotions, as Ariana gets to now her four. I was not able to put the book down. The Authors done a fantastic job at bringing the characters out. I love Arianas humor as well. This is definitely a must read. This is definitely more than a five star read. Shauna Joesten
Really good start to a new series. Ari has never known what life in a pack is like. She has been owned as a slave. Literally fighting for her life. She learns she has to adapt quickly to her new life. I like all of the characters and am excited to read more in this series.
That was a lie.. I don't like it, there... I said it.
Ariana is a wolf who is essentially a slave to a warlock and forced to fight to the death in some fighting ring. One night, as she is fighting, the local wolf alpha and his pack has infiltrated the fights with the intention of ending them? bringing down the warlock? Something about shifters being taken... Anyway, he finds the Silver Shifter and then quickly realizes that she is also his mate. She is rescued and brought back to his pack where she learns what it means to be the Silver Shifter and how important she is.
So, the idea (at least as it is explained in the blurb) is great, hence me choosing to download this and read it. However, I lost interest pretty quickly... (I think I made it to like 40ish% before I started skimming)
Anyways, I feel like a lot is skipped over, we don't really get to know the characters, yet they are building relationships and we are just being told about it rather than reading it happen. The MC and her behavior doesn't match her history, which bothers me for whatever reason. Apparently, I expect characters to be well developed, who knew. Also, the MC acts likes a teeny bopper, which is about the only characteristic she has that aligns with the fact that she spent her childhood and teenage years in a cage, thus never really gaining any adult experiences. Why is that the only characteristic she has the jibes with her backstory?... its kind of annoying (not kind of, its actually annoying).
Not finishing this book, let alone the series and would not recommend.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Wasnt sure what to expect with this one at first. this was a great first book to a new series with a good plot line that has so much potential to go different ways. The MC is a good mix of strong and brave with vulnerable and understanding. There is so much more to her we have yet to read about, I feel the author wrote her with so many layers that make her who she is and who she'll become. The four male love interest are hot and diverse, definitely can't wait to see how each romance goes as the series progresses on. Next book please!
First off let me say I need April to get here fast! I want more of these characters ASAP!
Ari’s life hasn’t been a bed of roses. She’s lived most of it in a cage or the fighting ring, trying to stay alive.
Things change when a stranger steps in.
This is a super fast read. You don’t want the book to end. The pages seem to turn their selves though.
What’s not to like.. one gutsy scrapper who’s life has always been determined by if she wins the fight and then add four alphas from four very different packs.
