Vargsmal

Rate this book
Albeit written in 1994 and published not until 1996, hence quite outdated nowadays, this book still remains an all-time classic. Varg Vikernes deals with the history and destiny of his native homeland - Norway - and appeals to his kinsmen to abandon the materialistic and antihuman "modernism" in favor of the ancient and heathen beliefs of their elders.

Varg Vikernes is a Norwegian musician. In 1991 Vikernes conceived the one-man music project Burzum, which quickly became popular within the early Norwegian black metal scene. In Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, director Sam Dunn described Vikernes as "the most notorious metal musician of all time".

"After creating in the course of four early albums an impressive body of art that essentially ended black metal as it was by raising the bar beyond what others could easily participate in, Vikernes was imprisoned for sixteen years for his alleged role in church arson and murder. During the time he was in prison, he put out two more impressive keyboard-based albums and several books’ worth of writings before falling silent around the turn of the millennium." Since then and after his release in 2009, he has authored several writings on Nordic/Germanic neopaganism and European nationalism from a primitivist and naturalist stance focused on cultural values in the community and family.

Read to practice my Norwegian. Probably would insult the author that I dared touch the book with my filthy slavic fingers, haha :D
The music is good, no argument there, but his opinions are barely worth skimming through. Maybe a biology book for primary school would make him see why the world just doesn't work the way he thinks. I actually find it startling that someone manages to have such zero knowledge of genetics nowadays.

Thought provoking, as expected. 10/10 for passion, 2/10 for writing. His later books are much better organized and with a lot less errors (in the English version).

My opinion on the “metal head in pathological denial of fascism among several other things” genre is pretty much “nothing much more to see here” at this point- I mean, what else is there to see? Sometimes a piece of shit is right, but a piece of shit is a piece of shit.
