When Mugi’s strapped for cash, good ol’ Tetsu-san comes to the rescue. Tetsu sends Mugi to help out at a friend’s restaurant for a week, but Mugi’s new boss isn’t what he expected. Hana Hanayama is a super-cute high school girl who runs the restaurant with her father. She’s a demanding boss, but Mugi is completely captivated. After all, Hana is the spitting image of Mugi’s ex-girlfriend Hinako. Though Mugi has sworn that he “only has eyes for Yuu,” can he fight off the temptation that is Hana Hanayama?
Toshihiko Kobayashi (小林 俊彦 Kobayashi Toshihiko) is a male Japanese manga creator. In 1995, Half Court was serialized in Magazine Special from No. 1 to No. 11. After the serial publication of Parallel in Magazine Special from No. 8 in 2000 to No. 1 in 2002, Pastel was serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine from the 32nd issue in 2002 to the 33rd issue in 2003. And now Pastel has been running as a serial ever since Magazine Special No. 10 in 2003.
Pastel: Volume 7 starts a new chapter in the lives of Mugi and Yuu. They are alone . . . well, except for all of their friends who always seem to be hanging around. Mugi and Yuu have both admitted that they would like to spend some time alone together, but it never seems to happen. Poor Mugi seems so frustrated, and Yuu seems to be in the same boat. At some time, one of them is going to have to admit that they like the other one. You can only drag this out so long before readers start to get frustrated. I sure hope Toshihiko Kobayashi understands this and will someday have these two become boyfriend and girlfriend.
As for the new chapter in their relationship, it adds more spice to their non-existent relationship. Maybe the creator had to get Yuu's sister out of the house so Mugi and Yuu could finally get together. Who knows?
The artwork is great again and the translation is wonderful. I quite enjoyed reading Pastel: Volume 7 and I adore this series.
Overall, Pastel: Volume 7 is another wonderful book in this sexual, tension-filled series. Maybe Mugi and Yuu will get together in Pastel: Volume 8? I can only hope, but I doubt it.
