I'm the author of seventy-something novels, including romance, women's fiction and mystery. When We Were Sisters debuted in June 2016, a stand alone novel about two foster sisters traveling back into their past together. I loved writing it and love the cover my publisher chose.

I'm also excited about my recent series, Goddesses Anonymous, which started with One Mountain Away and was followed by Somewhere Between Luck and Trust. The third book in the series, A River Too Wide, came out in July 2014. The Color of Light debuted in August 2015. Will there be more? We'll see.

I'm also putting up my newly edited romance backlist and love re-reading and updating them a bit.

Last year my husband and I moved from Virginia, to Osprey, Florida, the state where both of us were raised, met, and married. In the summer we live in Chautauqua, New York. I'm a quilter, knitter, kayaker, and the mother of four children, whom I regard as my greatest creative endeavors. And now there are four wonderful grandchildren to spoil.

It was great to get to visit with the women of Happiness Key again. I must admit that I found Tracy and Wanda’s stories more interesting this time than the rest of the ladies stories. In Tracy’s case, I wanted to see how her and Marsh’s relationship would turn out, when he found out she was pregnant. I thought Tracy and Marsh made a good couple and wanted them to have a happy ending. In Wanda’s case, I don’t need to say any more about why I liked Wanda’s story other than Wanda’s Wonderful Pies. All the different pies that Wanda was coming up with was making my mouth water.

Author, Emilie Richards really brings to life the women of Happiness Key. Sunset Bridge is book three in this series. I would suggest reading these books in order, just because you are going to want to get to know them better and once you do they will become some of your best friends. I am sorry to see this series come to a end as I have enjoyed reading these books. Clear a stop on your bookshelf for Sunset Bridge. This book is like talking to your best friend! It is that good.

It was a good book, but I think it was a continuation of another book, even though it didn't state that. Tracy is the owner of Happiness Key, where a group of friends live. Each of them dealing with different issues. Tracy is pregnant but is afraid to tell the father because she wants to be sure that he wants to be with her because he loves her, not just because she is having a baby. Maggie, a former cop, has come to the key to help her mother, Wanda, with her pie shop. She is also getting over a broken relationship. Janya wants to have children but has been unable to conceive. Alice is a grandmother taking care of her
granddaughter. They are good friends and help each other out. There is a mystery here when a couple with 2 children become friends with Janya and her husband. They end up leaving their children with Janya, and they are both found dead. At first it's ruled a murder/suicide. But after Maggie has her ex-boyfriend who is a cop, check into it, he thinks it's more involved than that. It ends up that a company run by Blake Armstrong, made repairs to the bridge connecting Happiness Key with the mainland, but they cut corners in the repair, and the husband of the couple finds out. They take the wife and then send him a message that he has to meet up with them or they will kill her. He goes and they both end up dying. Blake thinks they won't be found out, but Maggie goes to search his home when a hurricane is coming, thinking he will have evacuated. Unfortunately, the bridge breaks, and he returns to find her there. Blake hits her on the head and takes her into a waiting boat and he attempts to get away. In the meantime, Wanda her mother is trying to find her and Tracy and her boyfriend help. They all stay at Tracy's boyfriends house during the storm. After the storms they find Maggie clinging for life on part of the broken bridge. Blake is never found, he went overboard. Tracy does end up marrying her boyfriend, and they end up having Alice's granddaughter live with them, because it's too hard on Alice to do full time care and she became involved with a man at the recreation center. Maggie gets back together with her boyfriend, and Janya and her husband get to keep the 2 children who were left in their care.

This book featured several TSTL women who thought that they were brilliant, more discussion of pie than I ever want to read again, and the sketchiest trail of evidence ever. I finished it because I didn't feel like looking for anything else to read, but I lost patience with Tracy, Maggie, and Wanda more times than I could count. I didn't initially realize that this was the third book in a series, but once I did, I decided I didn't care enough about these characters to see how they'd arrived at where the were when this book opened.

There was a lot I liked but a lot I hated about this book. Every damn story got tied up in a perfect little bow at the end. I understand that a crisis can make people change... but it's a temporary change so maybe for a little while everything will be sunshine and lollipops for Maggie and Felo and Tracy and Marsh, but the reality is that they are who they are and all the same problems that damaged their relationships before will crop up and damage them again.
Most of the characters in the book were quite unlikable with the exception of Janya and Rishi. Wanda was an annoying big mouth pie making hick so I don't see what the appeal was... the way she acted around "Deke" was just gross and made her seem like a stupid 12 year old. I'm not sure why she even had a husband because he was in the story so minimally.
As for the expected baby being named "Way", with a brother named the equally stupid Bay.... I can't even...

This was the 3rd in the series and finished with a mystery of 2 deaths, questions of parenting and adoption, relationships and contracting firms using inferior products causing disaster. There is also a hurricane, a twister, lots of hormones, and questions of looking toward personal goals and future plans. All the favorite characters continue, and Maggie, Wanda's daughter, is thrown into the mix of folks on Happiness Key. The loose ends are finally tied up and each character has some personal challenges, changes and growth. This was a satisfying close to a story involving 4+ women and their bonds of friendship.

I usually love Emilie's books. The first two in this series were very enjoyable. This one had so many side stories going on at once it was difficult to keep details together. If this is the end of the Happiness Key stories, I can see why she did.

Fantastic!

This is the third book in the series. I hated for it to end! It’s almost like all of your best friends are moving away at the same time. I’ve really enjoy this series of books. Make sure you read them in order. Now on to another Emilie Richards series!

This was a fitting, although perhaps overly dramatic, conclusion to this pleasant, enjoyable series, tying up all the stories.

Great way to end the series. If you haven’t read it, put it on your list. There is a lot going on in Happiness Key. New babies, new families, murder, and a hurricane. Wow.

Found this book at a local thrift store. I did not realize it was book #3; however, it wasn’t difficult to jump right in and understand the store line.

Maggie wasn't a very likable character, and Tracy's stubbornness was getting on my nerves, but good ending to wrap up third installment of this series..

The best read in this trilogy! As usual, the author keeps you guessing, and this one certainly had some great surprises. Richards does not disappoint in this book.

3 1/2 stars!

Sunset Bridge is the third book in a trilogy about the lives of four women living in a small community in Florida:

Tracy Deloche lived a life of luxury until her husband was arrested for fraud and the feds took almost everything they owned. Tracy has been dating Marsh Egan, a conservation activist, for a few months, and has just found out she's pregnant. She doesn't know yet if Marsh cares for her, but she knows she wants this baby.

WandaGray is an older woman who used to be a waitress but fulfilled her dream of opening her own pie shop. Wanda's daughter, Maggie, has just quit her job as a police officer in Miami and left her long-term boyfriend to come to Happiness Key to help her mother in her pie shop and to think. Her boyfriend still wants her in his life, and she's also met someone else who might be fun to spend some time with.

Janya Kapur is a young wife from India who loves her husband although it was an arranged marriage. Janya wants children but previously learned her husband is unable to have children. When a horrible tragedy strikes a young couple they've recently met, their young children are left in the care of Janya and her husband. But Janya and her husband are sure the tragedy is not what it seems at first glance.

Alice, a grandmother who's unexpectedly raising her teenaged granddaughter. Alice is tired. She's getting older and is having a hard time keeping up with the demands of being parent to a teenage girl.

These women have formed a close friendship in their tiny community of five homes on the island of Happiness Key.

My thoughts:
Whew! There's a lot going on in Sunset Bridge! I did not read the first book in this series, Happiness Key, but I did read Book 2, Fortunate Harbor, so I knew who the characters are and where they are in life.

I liked the pacing in this book. With so many stories to keep track of, normally I'd be all over the place trying to keep track of who was where, but with Sunset Bridge that wasn't a problem. It felt like the story was moving slowly but there was so much going on that I stayed interested. I liked the introduction of Wanda's daughter, Maggie. She's the kind of character that I don't usually see in women's fiction (I have not read too many books in this genre so don't hold me to that) and I really liked her character - tough, self sufficient, stubborn to a fault; but she's also smart, good-hearted and helpful. It was her involvement in Janya's part of the book that I was most interested in.

I liked all the characters except Tracy: Tracy is the character I had a problem with in Fortunate Harbor. This time around her weight was pretty low-key but her attitude towards Marsh really drove me nuts. Other than Tracy though, I liked the women and their quiet support of each other. Their weekly meals together, their willingness to assist, even their occasional snaps at each other, all shows the reader a family, if not in name.

Sunset Bridge ends with a bang - I was flipping pages quickly as the occupants of Happiness Key were cast about in a chain of events that left them (and me) breathless; it was a wonderful end to the trilogy. Oh, and for those who read Fortunate Harbor, there's a nice little blip about the owners of the restaurant that fired Wanda; it was the best thing that ever happened to her!

The Happiness Key novels are some of the best I have ever read, and this addition, the last one, was the icing on the cake. It brought some tears as well as squeals of happiness for all the characters that I have come to love over the past three books.

Sunset Bridge opens up just as Tracy Deloche learns that she is pregnant. While this time should be causing happiness and joy, it is only causing a lot of anxiety of Tracy's part, because the man she is with- the father of the baby- hasn’t even expressed his love out loud yet, let alone any sort of plans for the future. Wanda, on the other hand, is delighted with the success and opportunities Wanda’s Wonderful Pies has brought her. However, with the arrival of her daughter Maggie, Wanda knows trouble is in the air. Not only because of the complicated relationship she has always had with her daughter, but because of all the events Maggie has recently escaped from, ones that have yet to been cleared up and be explained. Janya is also facing children problems of her own with her husband, namely the two kids that were dropped in their care recently, and Alice is finally breaking out of her shell and returning to the normal old person lifestyle, but in doing so will she loose her granddaughter?

These books are truly well worth read. Not only because of positive way in which they show friendship, but because of the way they show that you should embrace the unknown, allowing life's setbacks and surprises to lead you to the place you deserve the most- happiness.

My favorite aspect of the Happiness Key novels has always been the rich and complex characters Emilie has also introduced, and Sunset Bridge was no exception. Wanda, Alice, Janya, Tracy, and the rest of the gang are back and better than ever. Best of all a new character is introduced in this addition- Maggie, Wanda's daughter. Maggie was yet another creative and unique character, one's who background I enjoyed learning more about.

The plot in this was another high point. It included the infamous mystery aspect that forever had me on the tip of my toes, dying to know what would happen next, and it also had plenty of heartbreak, twists, and turns to have nearly any reader happy. I especially adored how everything came together in the end. Most importantly, I love how this novel displays women of all backgrounds coming together and being friends and getting past common prejudices.

In all, what a fantastic end to a series I loved! I can't lie and say I didn't cry a lot in the last chapter of this because I did. Not because it was sad exactly, but because I was sad to let go of this four women who I've come to root for and adore over the past three books.

So... Read the Happiness Key books. Love them. Spread the word. Even if they do not sound like your cup of tea, give them a try. You might be surprised- just like I was.

A novel of friendship, love and perseverance, Sunset Bridge is a stunning look at how friends work together at life, love and in the face of danger and disaster.

Sunset Bridge is a long book, but it flies by. It's also the third in the series, but I did not read the first two and although I feel I would have known the characters better in the first few pages if I had read the first two books, I feel that after those first few pages it really didn't matter. Ms. Richards gives enough background and the characters fill themselves out enough that I never felt lost. I got the gist of each character quickly. From the very outspoken Wanda to her much more reserved daughter Maggie. From the slightly addled older Alice to the not-quite-sure she's grown up Tracy. And Janya, the Indian woman who is the pillar that seems to hold them all up, I loved her though she was only here and there in this book. She is young but she is wise. She is quiet but she notices everything and when she speaks she has something wise to say. Each woman contributes something special to the group and makes the group whole. I liked that. I also liked that Ms. Richards stays true to females and makes it that they don't get along all the time. They aren't cat-fighting and the book is not unpleasant, it's just real.

At the heart of this book are several things. First Tracy is pregnant. Second Maggie is trying to decide what to do since leaving the police force and the only love of her life behind. Wanda has had the ultimate business proposition. Janya and her husband have an unusual blessing fall into their laps, and Alice may have a second chance at love. So as you can see the book is full of goings-on. So that is why it speeds by. But even though a lot is going on, the character building is never glossed over. Maggie and Tracy are probably the characters that undergo the most change in this book and I really enjoyed watching it. Ms. Richards is a master at character building and relationship building. At it's heart, Sunset Bridge is really a relationship book. Relationships between the women, and then romantic relationships as well.

Sunset Bridge really touched a chord in me. It showed me the good of community. It's something I have seen in the time after a hurricane and she demonstrates it here in this book. I loved watching these women with each other and each woman with their private thoughts. Sunset Bridge is a delightful novel to read on the waning days of summer and as we move into fall. If you enjoy a good relationship story then this is just the book for you. If you enjoy a character-driven story then this is the book for you. As for me, I'm now going back to read the first two book and any of Ms. Richards' earlier books that I can get my hands on. I have a new auto-read author.
