A vivid, analytical account of an amazing array of men and women linked by a common bond-sainthood. These individuals led exciting, extraordinary lives throughout history and across the globe, responding to events in their time in different ways-as warriors, teachers, mystics, martyrs, and miracle workers. Richly illustrated, this is a visual feast from Renaissance and Medieval manuscripts, mosaics, glorious paintings, sculptures, icons, keepsakes, and contemporary cinema clips that explore and reveal the significance of saints.
Not for an expert hagiographer but for someone like me who knows little about the saints, it's a great overview with some beautiful illustrations. Really enjoyed it.
A good coffee table kind of book. Lots of excellent and high-quality reproduction of classical art-work, with very sensible commentary on the cult of the Saints and what it means to Christians today.
