In the midst of uncertain times, it is important to remember that God is with us. He is there, even in the darkest of times. In our isolation and fear, Christ, who suffered on the cross, deeply understands our suffering and the pain we feel. In his resurrection, he makes all things whole again. During Lent we follow Jesus from his time and temptation in the desert through to his trial, death and resurrection on Easter Sunday. Many people who are alone, sick or unemployed are searching for the good that might come from our terrible circumstances. If we take a moment and think, then maybe we can find some good; the planet is breathing easier, the air is fresher, the sky is bluer and bird song is louder and clearer. People are digging deep to find their best self to be kind and friendly.
Lent is an invitation to begin a journey of discovery. This Lent build some time for spiritual reflection into your day. It is often difficult to find the interior silence needed to hear God's voice amidst the busy and day-to-day activities of our lives. Lent invites you to come, rest and be replenished in this journey with God. It is a time to listen to God at work in your daily life. Jesus's invitation to his first disciples was very 'Come and See.' (John 1 :39) We are told that they stayed with him for the rest of the day and that it was an encounter that changed their lives. Each quiet moment you take in Lent can be an opportunity to do the same thing – to spend time with God, to remain in His presence and to discover what He wants for you in your life. Can you pray : Loving God, what is it that you want me to do? Let me do your will and carry out your work.
1 Corinthians 12.4-7
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
Perhaps, like many people, you are searching for something deeper that makes sense, for a true direction that makes your life worth living. Spend time this Lent talking to God, asking him what is the life He wants you to live and how He wants to shape and mould your life? As God exposes our inner conceits of our closed minds, he is with us and becomes no longer remote and distant. God draws close to us and reveals himself as our rock, refuge and strength.
Psalm 46
1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
