When an unruly gang of aliens visits the home of a little boy, what follows is a night of fun, mischief, and opposites. Each cleverly-illustrated page shows a host of characters big and small, whispering and shouting, silly and scary--just pull the tab and the opposite appears!
Matthew Van Fleet's innovative books have been introducing children to basic concepts for over twenty years. His unique formats invite toddlers to touch, press, pull, lift and even sniff as they explore colors, shapes, numbers, letters, opposites and more. His books include the #1 New York Times bestsellers TAILS and DOG as well as the New York Times bestsellers CAT, ALPHABET, and HEADS.
This book is about opposites. It is also a great opportunity to talk to children about Aliens. For some kids would be scary, but for others, very exciting and fascinating. It contains a lot of new vocabulary and interesting pictures.
Extension: After reading a book, provide the children with obstacles like tables, chairs, etc and ask them to perform the activity you are asking for. For example, ask the to go under the table, to go over the chair, pretend to be small or big, to be quiet, to be aloud, etc.
I love this book (and so does my 14-month-old)! It has pop-ups that don't beg to be torn from the page. It teaches about opposites. It has fun pictures. It rhymes. And it has a cute little plot with a sweet ending. Most board books can barely manage one of those. This book kept our kid entertained for a good amount of time while we flew over the holidays -- awesome!
