This is a short little book that helps readers switch to a vegan diet, with a focus on ethics and spirituality. It's very new age in spirit and is written by an author who has written many books about subjects like angels. The author talks about things like the life force of an apple and how long until most of it is drained after it's picked. This may be helpful for some readers or may turn off others who want a more pragmatic book. There are no recipes. This is not a cookbook. It basically convinces you of the reasons to go vegan and then attempts to give you lots of information to help make it as easy as possible. I'm not sure I learned anything new, but appreciated things like the recommended vitamins and minerals per day and ideas for things like quick vegan snacks for kids.
I received this book free to review from Netgalley and I really struggled with how to review it. I picked the book because I am interested in Veganism and I think I must have just skipped over the part in the description about the “spiritual vibrational” quality of food. Due to my Judeo/Christian background, when I saw the word "spiritual", I thought "God" - not "God, the Universe, Spirit, the Creator, Allah, Rama...the One - which we are all a part of." Nor did I think the book would be about yin and yang, prayer and life-force energy, guardian angels, angel therapy or the chakra energy system. People need to be aware that this is in the book. I found it a bit distracting, and also entertaining at times. Despite that, the book really does contain very good health and diet information and has great resources listed at the back. I did learn some things from this book that I find very valuable such as the fact that "Americans eat two to four times the amount of protein that they need which can lead to fatigue.", vegans should take B12, it is misleading to classify proteins as incomplete or complete and more. So, if you are ok with stories about someone's guardian angel telling him it is ok to eat a sandwich made by an agitated food server and that praying over the food will keep the fear energy from affecting the food or him (I found that story entertaining if nothing else), then I really do recommend the book because it really does have some good information about health and diet.
The title of this book caught my eye because more and more I see my own veg*n diet as a spiritual choice. In my case then, the author was "preaching to the choir" as they say. I enjoyed the book, which was an easy read, but I'm not sure it carried enough weight to sway readers not already on the veg*n path. Although, I guess if you even pick up such a book, you must be at least drawn in that direction. I hope it gives such readers the information and encouragement they need to continue their journey.
This little book has fueled my interest in eating more plant based foods. The first chapter was a bit hard to through. There is information on the cruelty to animals that I agree is happening. I grew up on a farm and know that there are others ways that farmers treat their livestock than what is portrayed in this book. After getting past this first chapter the book was more what I expected from Doreen Virtue, the spiritual basis for eating vegan. I recommend this book to anyone who want a primer on eating vegan. The details on what to avoid and how to start gradually I found very helpful.
The most profound thought I will remember from reading this book is the quote from Crocodile Dundee about the aboriginal who wouldn't eat the meat because it was dead for too long. That says it all about what we should be putting in our bodies - eat fresh natural food. Give thanks for what God has provided.
FTC Disclosure: I received this book for free from Hay House Publishing for this review. The opinion in this review is unbiased and reflects my honest judgment of the product.
This book provides many useful tips for people considering a plant-based (vegan) lifestyle or a primarily plant-based lifestyle (vegetarian). The author does not force her views on readers but instead offers a range of options and suggestions. She does not preach but instead offers useful information. Quite useful!
I adore this book and give it to everyone!! It is so enlightening and is great for everyone from meat eaters to vegans. This boomer turned me vegan and i still refer to it monthly for support and a reminder of why I chose the path I did. Highly recommend it, even if you don't make changes it's a very good read
This is a guide to becoming a vegetarian. It gives lots of help advice on how to accomplish your goal. I try to add no meat meals into my diet or increase veggies. I am not No real big fan of tofu or soy products.
