A wooden horse journeys across Washington State, passing through many hands over 100 years. I remember having this book read to me in class when I was in elementary school, so it was fun to read it to my own class. The book can be a little boring, but the chapters are short and it was easy to get through one a day. There was a very diverse range of people and experiences going on in this book, which I appreciated, and I would ask my class questions like, "Who knows what 'bilingual is'? What was going on in the 1930s? What war do you think they're talking about in this chapter?"
Washington history told through the 'eyes' of a wooden toy horse. I love that it told 10 different stories, all about children in different decades, from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
