Rate this book
They’re anything that keeps you from living the life God intended for you. They cut you off from family, freedom, and friends. And when you’re faced with a wall―whether it goes up after a life circumstance like losing your job or divorcing, or whether there just seems to be an emotional/spiritual barrier that keeps you from fully connecting to God―what do you do? Well, Pastor Ryan Rush believes you have two options. A breakdown . . . or a break through .
Through practical insights and inspiring stories about people who “broke through” a wall in their spiritual life, Ryan guides you through understanding, facing up to, and breaking through the walls that are holding you back. He shows you how these walls go up in the first place, how to prevent them, and how to overcome them by embracing God’s promises for your life. With those walls out of your way, you’ll run at top speed to get to God and experience a freedom-based faith like never before.

I don't want to bash a senior pastor of the faith, but I must say that this was a very disappointing read. I read this as a requirement for a class and right off the bat it just hit me as a self-help book that was more likely to have been written by someone whose last name rhymes with Mosteen. Several times the author makes statements about naming and claiming what God has promised us. Which by doing so it is basically echoing the teachings of the Word of Faith teachers. Several times the author openly states that "walls" are NOT circumstances and yet every example used talks about people's circumstances, with one exception. Overall there was just not enough Truth to what was written here, and by Truth I mean Scripture. Multiple stories of secular people and events, some of them mildly inspiring but mainly there were just a bunch of short stories about how every time something kind of crazy or disruptive happened in his life he and his wife named and claimed a promise of God and that led to their wall being broken. Plain and simple, not a fan of this book. I would just as well use it for kindling than recommend it and I definitely would not risk it falling into the hands of another believer, so kindling is a more likely option at this point.

Not a lot of helpful material. Still some good things to think about, but not as scripturally backed as it needed to be.

Reading,"Walls: Why Everybody's Stuck" is an easy read that promises no absolute answers, but rather guidance and encouragement in dealing with the strongholds that many may have, be it big or small, in one's life.

This book brings with it and understanding that life is never going to be easy and we're not going to have those easy answers, but it is a focus on the "walls" that are in our lives and how we should approach them in a strong, biblical way and to move past them, by relying on our Heavenly Father's words and not on the words of the world.

Filled with scripture and at the end of each chapter, questions for the reader to read and to work through, either for personal reflection or in a group study, what is good about "Walls" is that it doesn't promise to be the end all of things, but rather, the needed push many are in need to break down and move beyond the "walls" that maybe in ones life.

What I enjoy about it, is the conversational style, that doesn't lecture to, but speaks with and the constant references to God's word and strong encouragement to turn to Him and His word for strength and support and it is clearly edifying that is often hard to find.

Our lives are filled with just as much as good days as there are bad days, but for many, those days are often haunted in the back of their minds, or maybe in their day to day lives, that are "walls" keeping people from moving forward and this is a book that will help you push forward from those walls and fully live the life our Father intended, but not one that is always happy, but rather strengthen by turning to Him.

It's practical, not cynical or rose colored, but rather....realistic; If you are faced by a "wall" in your life, be it physical, emotional, or spiritual, considered "Walls" and how in and through God's word...to go over the hurdles that one may find.

I was assigned this book for a theology class. I don't know if i was expecting too much from this book, but if you would have told me that this was really written by Joel Osteen I would not be surprised. In the introduction the author seems to promise challenging concepts that will help with their spiritual walk, but does not deliver. I'm sure writing about his chronically ill daughter was difficult for him, but the rest is just fluff. It's 200 odd pages of sports and movie references, intertwined with the occasional story of someone the author knows who overcame adversity. Occasionally he remembers this book is supposed to be about bringing the reader closer to God and he adds a couple of Bible verses.
