The shadow (also known as id, shadow aspect, or shadow archetype) is an unconscious part of the personality that the conscious ego does not identify in itself, or the entirety of the unconscious; that is, everything about which a person is not fully conscious in analytical psychology. In a nutshell, the shadow represents the unknown.
The shadow, according to Jung, is the undiscovered dark part of one's personality.
According to Jung, the shadow is prone to psychological projection, in which a perceived personal weakness is recognized as a perceived moral flaw in someone else, due to its instinctual and irrational nature. "The projection-making factor (the Shadow archetype) then has a free hand and can actualize its object—if it has one—or bring about some other circumstance indicative of its strength," Jung adds, if these projections remain hidden.
In a nutshell, the shadow is everything you do not want to face about yourself, and in not facing it, you're hurting yourself. It holds you back, harms your psyche and keeps you from living your best life, your whole life. Integrating that shadow into yourself, will lead you to living a full, healthy and whole life. That's called 'Shadow Work'.
This guided journal is designed to help you face, integrate and heal that shadow self into your life.
