Kirja kertoo rovasti Oskari Huuskosesta, joka saa 50-vuotislahjaksi seurakuntalaisilta orvoksi jääneen karhunpennun. Pennun emo kuoli ajatettuaan kylän pitokokin korkeajännitepylvääseen, jolloin molemmat käristyivät sähkön vaikutuksesta. Oskari Huuskonen ristii karhunsa Perhanaksi ja myöhemmin Perkeleeksi. Tästä alkaa miehen ja karhun välinen ystävyys, jossa seikkaillaan muun muassa Muurmanskissa, Välimerellä ja lopulta Suomen Kälmitunturilla. Paasilinna käyttää kirjassa ronskia huumoria ja kirjassa korostuu mm. vapauden teema ja ihmisen ja eläimen välisen suhteen kehittyminen.

А bear with cubs wandered into the kitchen, attacked the cook, both were killed, and the flock presented one of the orphaned cubs to the priest for the half-century anniversary. Wow, a gift, the pastor's wife thought, but Huuskonen became very attached to the animal and to the implicit ultimatum: "Me or him," replied, "Him," although just as implicitly. Gradually moving first from the marital bedroom to the sofa in the living room, where the bear cub slept at his feet, and then to the plot of a widow. which allowed them to build a den on their land.
Of course, Pastor Huuskonen was with a weirdo, would a normal priest really want to mess with an animal like a little child? Although, on the other hand, when life is clearly already at sunset; the children have grown up, live separately; they do not need you, the wife considers you a fool and a loser; he has lost the faith that he should serve as a support. And suddenly there is a living being who needs you, even if it's a bear. Then life takes on a new meaning.
At least, that's how it turned out for the pastor-uncut. And it turned out that life can bring a lot of surprises, and there is a place for exploits, travel, love of young women, unrestrained drunkenness, voices from outer space (not as a consequence of drunkenness, but as a hobby).
A charming roguish novel about finding happiness, friendship, love and joy, when, it would seem, it is already not worth dreaming about anything.

Таня научила зверя плясать вприсядку. Плясун из него вышел лучше, чем из Тани. Хуусконен пел казацкие песни, под ритм которых Черт и Таня танцевали, русские женщины всегда славились своим танцевальным мастерством.
Забавно, считала Арто Паасилинну автором двух книг: "Год зайца" и "Лес повешенных лисиц", ту и другую нежно люблю, иногда думала, что вот такие книги о животных я, не замеченная в большой любви к жанру, могла бы читать, жаль, что так мало пишет финский автор. А оказалось в точности наоборот: публикует в год по книге к осени (совсем как наш Пелевин), ему часто пеняют на однообразие, но тридцать пять романов, переведенные на сорок языков и миллионные тиражи говорят сами за себя, потому на родине его называют инструментом привлечения интереса к современной финской литературе.
Животные и отношения, которые складываются с ними у героев вызывают смешанные чувства. С одной стороны восхищения с другой - собственной неполноценности. Не приходилось наблюдать в своих питомцах такого интеллекта, каким блещет у Паасилинны каждые первый зверь. Хотя я и в странствия, где спутником был бы заяц или медведь, не отправлялась. Может как раз эта готовность отринуть радости комфортной жизни, пуститься во все тяжкие, не в значении одноименного сериала, а в смысле реальных тягот бездомного кочевья - может она и обеспечивает глубинный контакт со зверем?
Не знаю, и на собственном опыте не испытаю, мне другой вид эскапизма ближе - в очередную историю с возможностью опосредованно прожить многие жизни, непосредственно не соприкасаясь с необходимостью баюкать в берлоге медвежонка или подтирать за ним дерьмо по всему дому. Но идея медведя, живущего среди людей, приводит в трепет. Дикому зверю в социуме не место, каким бы ни был умненьким и дрессированным, а когтей, клыков и медвежьей силищи никто не отменял, и ты не знаешь, что может привести его в ярость. А вы как думаете?
Но это в жизни, а в книге - пусть будет. Хотя история и в книге с того началась, что медведица с медвежатами забрела в кухню, напала на повариху, погибли обе, а одного из осиротевших медвежат паства подарила священнику на полувековой юбилей. Фигассе, подарочек, подумала пасторша, однако Хуусконен к зверенышу сильно привязался и на неявный ультиматум: "Я или он, " ответил: "Он", хотя так же неявно. Поэтапно съехав сначала из супружеской спальни на диван в гостиную, где медвежонок спал у него в ногах, а после и вовсе на участок одной вдовы. которая позволила выстроить на своей земле берлогу.
Конечно, пастор Хуусконен был с чудинкой, нормальному священнику разве пришла бы охота возиться со зверем, как с малым дитем? Хотя, с другой стороны, когда жизнь явно уже к закату; дети выросли, живут отдельно; ты не нужен им, жена считает дураком и неудачником; веру, что должна бы служить опорой, утратил. И вдруг появляется живое существо, которому ты необходим, хотя бы даже и медвежонок. Тогда и жизнь обретает новый смысл.
По крайней мере, у пастора-расстриги именно так получилось. И оказалось, что жизнь может преподнести много сюрпризов, и есть в ней место подвигам, путешествиям, любви молодых женщин, беспробудному пьянству, голосам из космоса (не как следствию пьянства, а как хобби).
Обаятельный плутовской роман об обретении счастья, дружбы, любви и радости, когда, казалось бы, уже и мечтать ни о чем не стоит.

Il regalo di compleanno
Paasilinna è un autore finlandese che racconta le sue storie con tono leggero e ironico, indipendentemente dai contenuti. Non è un’attitudine molto diffusa ed è un peccato, perché è piacevole, balsamica, educativa e incontra molto presso i lettori. In questo libro si raccontano le vicende tragicomiche di un pastore luterano e del suo regalo di compleanno (un orsetto rimasto orfano), attraverso le comuni e meno comuni difficoltà della vita. Naturalmente il contorno è scandinavo, quindi non mancano le pennellate buie, morte di 2 personaggi all’inizio del libro, un personaggio suicida. Il pastore non è molto ben collocato nella chiesetta di campagna ed è in crisi con la moglie, i superiori e Dio. L’orso dà una scossa alla sua vita e la situazione si evolve. Abbandonata la parrocchia, i due compagni conoscono nuovi luoghi, sperimentano nuove attività e nuove persone, sicchè quello che era un regalo di ripiego diventa il deus ex machina del destino del pastore. Uno degli insegnamenti del libro è che una delle migliori difese nei confronti dei cattivi pensieri è avere degli interessi extra e coltivarli con convinzione. Il pastore potrebbe sentirsi abbandonato dai superiori o dalla famiglia, ma, dedicandosi allo sport, all’orso e alla ricerca di esseri intelligenti nello spazio è attivo e impegnatissimo e la vita gli porge sempre nuove soluzioni. Paasilinna riece sempre a sorprendere e a non annoiare.

L'IDENTITÀ FINLANDESE
Romanzo che riflette profondamente l'identità finlandese attraverso un'avventura surreale e ricca di ironia. Pfarrer Oskari Huuskonen ist sauer. Sein Gottesdienst wird durch einen Stromausfall unterbrochen. Schuld daran ist der tragische Tod der Dorfköchin Astrid Sahari. Sie war in Panik vor einer wild gewordenen Bärenmutter auf einen Strommast geflüchtet und dort zusammen mit dem grimmigen Tier verglüht.
Die zwei aufgeweckten Bären-Jungen, die die Bärin hinterlässt, stellen die Dorfgemeinde vor ein Problem. Doch bald ist für eines ein Platz im Tierpark gefunden - und das andere schenkt man kurzerhand Pfarrer Huuskonen zum runden Geburtstag ...
Ein Bär im Betstuhl - Der Titel erweckte in mir den Wunsch den Klappentext zu lesen und danach dann das ganze Buch. Arto Paasilinna ist ein finnischer Schriftsteller der wohl auch als "Meister des skurrilen Humors" bezeichnet wird. Nach Genuss dieser Lektüre kann ich dem nur zustimmen.
Die Geschichte um den Pfarrer mit dem Bärenjungen hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Es war rasant, witzig, schwarz-humorig, traurig und berührend. Es ist schon skurril einem Pfarrer zu folgen der überzeugt an Gott geglaubt hat und über den Bären in eine Glaubenskrise gerät und dann zur Krönung noch mit Bär durch die Weltgeschichte gondelt. Ich fand es spannend aber manches Mal hätte man die Story etwas kürzen können. Auch die stellenweise ständig auftauchenden Glaubensfragen nervten mich irgendwann. Ich habe schon in der zweiten Krise verstanden das der Pfarrer da Probleme hat. Aber sei's drum.
Der Schreibstil war flüssig und der schwarze Humor gepaart mit der Skurrilität hat mich gepackt und das Buch zügig lesen lassen. Es war einfach mal was anderes zwischen dem - ich sage mal - Mainstream. Und wer genau sowas mal lesen möchte: kaufen!

Aarto Paasilinna si mostra anche in questo libro un maestro della satira e della ironia. Nei suoi libri la natura, elemento fondamentale delle sue opere, è spesso rappresentata da animali. In questo caso il centro della narrazione è un'insolita amicizia tra un uomo e un orso addomesticato. In questo contesto l'orso si presenta quasi come l’alter ego del protagonista, che è un prete in crisi con la sua fede e con la sua comunità. L’orso Satanasso diventa un simbolo della purezza e della libertà, in contrapposizione alla corruzione e alla ipocrisia dell'uomo. Paasilinna non risparmia nessuno: la satira si rivolge sia alla Chiesa, con i suoi riti e le sue resistenze, ma anche alla società nel suo complesso, che pur con la pretesa di governare il mondo con la razionalità, è guidata molto spesso da pregiudizi e ipocrisie. Il romanzo diverte e contemporaneamente ci offre molti spunti di riflessione. È un'opera che invita a guardare oltre l’esteriorità, a mettere in discussione le nostre convinzioni e a riscoprire il valore dell'amicizia, della libertà e dell'autenticità. Tutti i personaggi di Paasilinna sono sempre alla ricerca di una loro autenticità!

Ни один роман Арто Паасилинны не был экранизирован братьями Каурисмяки. Странно - ведь его трагикомичные истории как будто идеально ложатся на абсурдистский тон фильмо�� финских режиссеров. Но возможно, в Финляндии другое отношение к его романам, я без понятия.
«Тысяча чертей» из названия — имя медвежонка, которого пастор Оскари Хуусконен получает от паствы на пятидесятилетие. Малыш лишился мамы при ужасных обстоятельствах (заодно погибла местная повариха), но пастор его оставил и стал ему если не отцом, то хорошим хозяином. Оскари вообще довольно нетипичный священник — его тянет строчить исторические трактаты, а по ночам он всматривается в небо, в ожидании весточки от разумных цивилизаций. Медвежонок, которого поначалу зовут Черт, заваливается в первую в своей жизни спячку в заботливо сооружённой для него берлоге, а пастор наблюдает за ним вместе с прибывшей из Оулу специалисткой по медведям. С ней у него случится роман, но это не самое важное.
Во второй части Оскари, будучи выгнан из клира, отправляется в путешествие с Чертом, который оказывается на редкость умным медведем. Он прекрасно поддается дрессировке и даже выступает с пастором на российском корабле «Алла Тарасова». Потом они вместе застревают на год на Соловках, завоевывают общество русской радистки Тани Михайловой и движутся в Одессу, после очередной зимы.
Это безумное путешествие, в котором пастор очень много пьёт и пишет. Все почему-то ужасно родное и знакомое: видимо финны все же слишком близки к России, вот только вместо традиционной драмы, у них трагикомедия.
Купила еще четыре книги автора.

Финляндия. Первую половину книги я безудержно смеялась, вторую - пролистывала в раздражении.
Объяснить просто: неожиданный для меня, искрометный юмор финского автора, главные герои - проповедник и медведь, отправившиеся в путешествие, потрясающий задел, нанизывание комических ситуаций и беззастенчивых выражений.
Но когда персонажи оказываются... на Соловках, потом - в Одессе? Не могу комментировать как неуместное сочетание этих локаций, так и того, как внезапно схлопнулся сюжет, потеряв во мне читательский интерес.

Место действия — финское село, где люди и звери живут бок о бок, но проблемы рода человеческого все те же: карьера и выгорание, хобби, отношения в семье и с соседями, отношение к жизни, и по всему этому Паасилинна проходится как бы мимоходом, но даже одно точное слово или фраза о многом говорят.
“Невеста непременно хотела венчаться в церкви. Только была загвоздка: в молодости Канкаанпяя порвал с церковью, и теперь ему, видимо, надлежало вернуться в число прихожан. В бурные коммунистические времена на исповедь он не ходил. Хуусконен постановил, что следует пройти конфирмационную школу.”
Стоило прочесть хотя бы ради местного колорита, да это еще и местами смешно ) Но предупреждаю, юмор такой… деревенский, не ниже пояса, но и не выше. Но ведь это и есть местный колорит.
“Пастор подчеркивал священное значение брака, предполагающего выполнение обязательств, и в перерывах между своими тирадами возил физиономией жениха по кусту крапивы. Так был достигнут «компромисс»: жених послушно возвращается в церковь, а пастор как следует проводит прерванную церемонию венчания.”
Главный герой Оскари Хуусконен мне стал пожалуй симпатичен: любопытный до всего, не догматичен в вопросах религии, упорно отстаивает свои ценности, беззаветно возится с медвежонком, подаренным ему “добрыми” прихожанами. На проекте устройства берлоги для зимней спячки я окончательно сломалась ))
Идея отправить пастора с медведем в путешествие уже не показалась мне удачной, но диапазон местного колорита расширился)
“Невеста непременно хотела венчаться в церкви. Только была загвоздка: в молодости Канкаанпяя порвал с церковью, и теперь ему, видимо, надлежало вернуться в число прихожан. В бурные коммунистические времена на исповедь он не ходил. Хуусконен постановил, что следует пройти конфирмационную школу.”
Стоило прочесть хотя бы ради местного колорита, да это еще и местами смешно ) Но предупреждаю, юмор такой… деревенский, не ниже пояса, но и не выше. Но ведь это и есть местный колорит.
“Пастор подчеркивал священное значение брака, предполагающего выполнение обязательств, и в перерывах между своими тирадами возил физиономией жениха по кусту крапивы. Так был достигнут «компромисс»: жених послушно возвращается в церковь, а пастор как следует проводит прерванную церемонию венчания.”

Reverend Huuskonen's Beastly Manservant is a charming little able about a Lutheran minister who upon losing his faith, his pastorship and wife in a short period of time departs on a picaresque voyage with a bear that his parishioners have given him as a present on the occasion of his fiftieth birthday.
Huuskonen visits the Solovetsky Monastery in the White Sea close to the Artic Circle where he becomes involved in the SERENDIP program (Search for Extraterrestrial Radio Emissions from Nearby Developed Intelligent Populations) that listens for radio signas form for Extra-Terrestrials. Despite having lost his faith, Huuskonen continues to evangelize. When he attempts to initiate an interfaith dialogue with the Orthodox monks, he is forced to flee. His travels take him to the Black Sea and then the Mediterranean. During his travels he animates prayer meetings. Huuskonen's mistress converts despite his pleadings with her not to. Similarly the bear learns the Lutheran liturgy and also appears to acquire the faith.
At the end of the novel, Huuskonen and his bear are back in Finland. He settles into a cottage Lapland, marries his mistress and starts a second family. Finally a message arrives from outer space: John 14:6 : “I am the way and the truth and the life. "

Primer libro que leía de este autor y me lo he pasado bien (es muy divertido y ameno), aunque tampoco me ha emocionado, y ahora mismo no creo que repita.
Las aventuras de un pastor protestante finlandés y su oso amaestrado, que se vuelve casi tan humano como su dueño, parece una serie de sucesos tragicómicos, pero que esconden una sátira muy mordaz. El oso reparte buenos mamporros a quién le toca la trufa, pero el autor no se queda corto dando palos sobre todo a los dirigentes de la iglesia (a los luteranos protestantes porque le pilla más a mano, pero también a otras). A los rusos, enemigos históricos de los finlandeses, tampoco los deja bien parados. Y aunque todavía confía en la gente de bien y muestra que hay buena gente por donde quiera que vayas, el tono general es de pesimismo por la sociedad en la que vivimos.
Y os tengo que dejar, que el invierno se acaba, voy saliendo del letargo de la hibernación y tengo que expulsar el tapón intestinal.

Libro cómico e impredecible en varios pasajes. Un humor negro y absurdo envuelve a la obra de principio a fin, mostrándonos a un pastor con un cuestionable sentido común que con el tiempo se va tornando cada vez mas bruto y a su oso que cada aventura lo vuelve mas humano y empático, hasta el punto que nos cuestionamos los roles que juegan clérigo y animal. El autor hace un ingenioso uso de disparatadas referencias religiosas, (pseudo)científicas, históricas y morales para interpelar al lector y hacernos cuestionar nuestro accionar cotidiano y hasta qué punto somos capaces de re-inventarnos frente a nuevas oportunidades y seguir construyendo caminos distintivos.

Divertente, leggero ma con peso, picaresco, sconclusonato, sottile. Il viaggio del reverendo Huskonnen con il suo orso Satan, dal gelo del Nord fino a Malta per concludersi nuovamente in Lapponia riesce a ridere del nostro disperato essere uomini grazie alla grazia di un orso fuoriposto che tutto riesce, miracolosamente a mettere a posto.

Tutto inizia quando il reverendo Oskari Huuskonen compie cinquant’anni e i fedeli della sua parrocchia gli regalano un cucciolo d’orso rimasto da poco orfano. O forse, in realtà, incomincia tutto molto, molto tempo prima, quando il reverendo Huuskonen compie i suoi studi di teologia, scrive una tesi sull’apologetica e arriva, trepidante ed energico, alla parrocchia di Nummenpää.
Le sue prediche dal pulpito lo infiammano di un fervore e di una ferocia che i suoi parrocchiani poco apprezzano: seduti su quelle panche fredde ogni domenica, storcono il naso e aggrottano la fronte ogni volta che quella voce virile elenca i loro peccati, li ammonisce e punta il dito. Nonostante la veemenza, però, Huuskonen, è stanco di quella vita, dei limiti di una piccola comunità, sente di aver perso la fede in Dio, nella missione che l’ha guidato fin lì, al punto che – i suoi stessi superiori – non sanno davvero cosa fare con lui.
Quando i suoi fedeli arrivano, dunque, a regalargli quel piccolo cucciolo d’orso sperano, in cuor loro, che l’animale – crescendo – non disdegni assaggiare la carne umana, liberandoli, così, di una presenza decisamente ingombrante. Huuskonen, però, non reagisce certo come i suoi parrocchiani si sarebbero potuti immaginare: non è oltraggiato di fronte a quel dono inaspettato, bensì contento; stringe a sé il piccolo orsetto e lo ribattezza Satanasso.

Reverend Oskari Huuskonen, the priest that made the round-trip journey of Europe with Satan the Bear and his ironing board.
(This review is based on Prosten og hans forunderlige tjener, the Norwegian translation of the book. The reviewer has a very limited understanding of the Finnish language and therefore doesn’t have the ability to properly compare this edition with the Finnish original, but has made an attempt nevertheless. At least the Finnish sense of comedy closely resembles the Northern Norwegian one, so hopefully that means that little more than nuances have been lost in translation. There is as of now (December 2022, to be precise) no English translation of the book, nor does it seem like any is in the works. The original title, Rovasti Huuskosen petomainen miespalvelija, translates to Reverend Huuskonen’s Beastly Manservant;¹ the translated title will be used from here on to give the review a better flow.)
The tall tale is able to bring out everything good about the road novel. This is because road novels shine at their brightest when they bring the readers to new places for them to marvel at and to curious new people in curious situations. The tall tale doesn’t give a damn about being truthful and therefore can toss about marvels and curiosities at will, which undeniably gives it the potential to enrich the road novel beyond what the restrictive truth can muster. Restrictions have nothing to do with a road novel anyway.
So when a road novel begins with a rather excentric reverend being gifted a bear, one of the now motherless cubs of the bear that chased the local catering woman up a high-voltage pole and frying both of them in the process, and naming it Damn,² the tale is as unhinged as it ought to be. Then he begins his journey, with Damn the Bear happily in tow. What follows is a lot of un-reverently behaviour as well as quite a bit of behaviour that isn’t very bear-like, and before one knows it the young Damn has grown into an adolescent Satan.³ Meanwhile the reverend has managed to get up to all sorts of frisky and mischievous antics. He has no problems in keeping boredom at a distance, and by extension, neither do the readers.
But, Reverend Huuskonen’s Beastly Manservant takes a backward approach to the road novel genre. Normally one would expect the people and places that are encountered underway to be the curious ones, but this time it’s the protagonist that brings what is curious to them. The author has tended to present the Finnish people as a people apart from everyone else and romanticises this otherness, even if he shows that he is well aware of their flaws. He presents them as a people who often have little in the way of wealth, who consume more alcohol than they probably ought to, who have little to no qualms about making a spectacle of themselves, who are stubborn enough to survive anything that crosses their path, even if that stubbornness sometimes comes to bite them in the ass in less dire times, and when the time comes when they do not survive, their flippant relationship with death means that they face it with a simple ‘perkele’ and nothing more. Paasilinna always showed much love to this idea of his people. Oskari Huuskonen is very much a Finn in the sense of the above description. In that sense it seems far from inaccurate to view him, and so also this book, as a challenge to the rest of the world: Can the world truly handle this wonderful otherness that is a Finn? The answer isn’t a clear “yes” or “no.” We Northern Norwegians can relate. Any journey to a place outside of the extended Scandinavia (with Iceland and Finland as honorary members) is often met with that particular glance where their eyes open, as does their mouth, their heads tilt slightly to the side and linger for a moment, before turning to one another in a silent question: ”Should we be worried?”
Out of all of Paasilinna’s books – out of those which this reviewer has read, anyway – this is probably the one that lends itself the best to be adapted into a movie. It’s a very visual tale that includes quite a bit of compelling scenery. Yet it is the characters and their synergy which truly makes the story, and much of the journey could be replaced with other colourful destinations – comedic antics would ensue no matter the location. Also, while the story is set in 1995, when the book was written, there is nothing that ties it down to that period. There would of course be the matter of teaching a bear to iron, make religious gestures, and wipe its own bum, but it would certainly be worth the effort. Until the time comes when someone makes this movie, the only way to enjoy the story is to read it. It has been translated to ten languages, but, as noted above, English is unfortunately not one of them.

3. In the original the bear grows up to become Perkele. As a swear word it’s roughly equivalent to ‘Satan!,’ but it’s literal meaning is ‘the devil.’ The history of the swear word is an unusual one. Before Christianity was forced upon the Finns they had a pantheon of deities led by Ukko, the God of thunder and Perkele was another of Ukko’s names. Then came the first Finnish translation of the Bible and in it the word Perkele was demonised. The word ‘perkele’ has since become a word which is something akin to a national symbol in Finland, and a symbol not just against Christian oppression, but against oppression of the Finnish people in general. So, when the bear is given the name it’s as a sign of true affection and of the acceptance of the bear as a true Finn.

3.5 Sterne. Erinnerte mich sehr an Der Hundertjährige, der aus dem Fenster stieg und verschwand, allerdings musste ich überraschend feststellen, dass Paasilinnas Buch schon 14 Jahre vor dem schwedischen Bestseller von Jonasson veröffentlicht wurde! Die Originalität hat dann auch den Ausschlag zum Aufrunden auf 4 Sterne gegeben, auch wenn mir dieses sehr unterhaltsame Buch ein wenig zu seicht und viel zu religiös ist.

Rispetto ai precedenti libri di Paasilinna mi è sembrato carico di un'ironia più pungente e con un ritmo incalzante fin dai primi capitoli. È stato il più facile e veloce da leggere nonostante fosse uno dei più "lunghi".

Парадоксальная, полная сарказма от названия до последней главы, книга Арто Паасилинна погружает нас в свой кажущийся абсурдным мир немедленно. интенсивность событий так высока, что лишь к середине книги мы замечаем, насколько эта заброшенная финская деревня с непроизносимым названием похожа на нашу жизнь - только без медведей. Медведь по кличке Черт (а затем и вся Тысяча Чертей) был подарен пастору прихожанами, и его появление - как часто бывает с неожиданными подарками судьбы - запускает череду фантасмагорических на первый взгляд событий в жизни пастора-философа. Неожиданные романы, опасные путешествия, удивительные новые профессий – всё это предстоит пережить пастору на страницах этой удивительной книги!

Not my thing, though I wonder how much the translation ended up affecting my enjoyment. The book relies heavily on its humor and I could not find humor in the phrasings of the Spanish translator. There are some interesting scenes, memorable in their absurdity and over-the-topness, but I wasn't really engaged by it.

Incredibile come questo libro mi abbia fatto cambiare idea così, in un batter di ciglia...
Ho aperto "Il migliore amico dell'orso" che già l'odiavo. Perché, mi è difficile ammetterlo, se c'è una cosa che non sopporto sono i nomi scandinavi con tutte quelle u di fila e quelle a con due puntini sopra. E' brutto dirlo, ma è così.
Già scoraggiata da questa caratteristica non ci ho messo molto a trovare altri aspetti del libro che non mi convincevano o mi innervosivano: edizione anomala e (questo lo penso ancora) così scomoda da tenere in mano!, ripetizioni che, anche se intenzionali, mi davano così fastidio!... Così sono ricaduta sulle prime pagine più volte, non trovando la voglia di andare avanti. Ma la mia prof di Italiano e la mia coscienza non perdonano e, sapendo che quello davanti era un viaggio di 12 ore Roma-Tokyo, ho deciso di portarmi sull'aereo quell'unico libro, decisa a smuovermi dall'arenamento a pagina 5.
Che dire, ha funzionato!
Ammettendo che le prime pagine sono un pò scoraggianti, dopo di esse la storia prende ritmo e ti coinvolge fino alla fine e neanche ci pensi più tanto alla reale possibilità che un orso possa lavarsi i denti o fare il segno della croce, perché, diamine, stai leggendo un libro! se non puoi sognare qui, dove allora?

libro consigliato dall'amica anobiina ciucchino (grazie grazie!!!)
è male essere prevenuti...
e io lo ero, forse, della casa iperborea, o di questi strani scrittori nordici...mah...
e invece dopo tante orbite attorno a questo libro,
l'ho preso e subito letto..
Paasilinna merita!!! è divertente, ironico e riesce ad esserlo in modo intelligente e discreto,
cosa che probabilmente uno si aspetta da un nordico...
e la storia strana, di quest'orso, che rimane orfano
e viene regalato a questo strano e ingombrante pastore protestante,
un uomo di mezz'età (che poi è l'età dell'autore stesso),
che si è accorto di avere dubbi in tantissime cose,
la famiglia, la religione, il rapporto con la moglie e con gli amici.
e inizia questa "amicizia" con quest'animale e si susseguono le scene divertenti,
i dubbi sulla propria vocazione, gesù sarebbe stato un perfetto comunista,
e dopo sermoni e prediche devastanti per la comunità,ad un certo punto
questa strana coppia lascia tutto e inizia un viaggio, alla ricerca di non
si sa che cosa, e viaggeranno per l'europa,
dal profondo nord al profondo sud, incontrando una serie di persone
forse più sconclusionate di loro, si intrecceranno relazioni, amori,
navi che affonderanno, mari ghiacciati,
le spiagge di malta e l'onnipresente cabina per la sauna,
balle di fieno che cadono da carretti turchi,
messaggi alieni dallo spazio e infine la risposta alla ricerca...

Das Buch in einem Wort: sonderbar.
Das Besondere an diesem Buch: die Vermischung aus Witz, Skurrilität und Traurigkeit. Da gibt es einen sonderlichen finnischen Pfarrer, der einen kleinen Bären geschenkt bekommt und darüber in eine Lebenskrise gerät, die ihn (immer zusammen mit seinem Bären) durch halb Europa führt. Dabei sind nicht zuletzt die vom Pfarrer geführten Diskussionen um den Glauben amüsant...und dabei ist es nicht er, der die Religion verteidigt. Zudem lernen wir auch noch Interessantes, z. B.:
Tauben und Bären könne man nicht vergleichen, "... sie sind zu verschieden. Tauben halten keinen Winterschlaf und Bären können nicht fliegen." (S. 133)
"Bären urinieren nicht mit erhobenem Bein, nicht einmal die männlichen Tiere." (S. 138)
"Von einem Bären hat der Mensch wirklich viel Nutzen, besonders wenn er ein vereistes Meer überquert." (S. 202)
Das weniger Atemberaubende an diesem Buch: Mir war es irgendwann zuviel. Die Reise hätte durchaus ein wenig gekürzt oder mit neuen Ideen angereichert werden können.
Trotzdem: ein außergewöhnliches Buch, das ein skurriles Bild der finnischen Landbevölkerung entstehen lässt, das einen schmunzeln und zugleich traurig werden lässt.
Das sollte man mit diesem Buch tun: als Pflichtlektüre allen Käuferinnen von rosa Hunderegenmäntelchen mitgeben.

Le pasteur Huuskonen se voit offrir un ourson orphelin pour ses cinquante ans. Naturellement, sa femme, être grincheux, ne voit pas ce cadeau d'un très bon oeil. Elle quitte immédiatement son mari pour un général et voici le pasteur parti sur les routes avec diverses compagnes et son ours. (Toute ressemblance avec une histoire semblable avec un lièvre de ma connaissance serait purement fortuite.)
Le texte est marqué par les points géographiques de ce périple et par les saisons (car un ours, ça hiberne!)
Le roman commence à la Bambi, avec la mort de la mère ourse, mais même ce passage est drôle.
Je pousse le vice jusqu'à lire Paasilinna en allemand car les romans de cet auteur ne sont pas toujours traduits à la fois en français et en allemand.
Mais je dois reconnaître que les traductions d'Anne Colin du Terrail sont de purs bijoux. Tout à fait à la hauteur de cet auteur qui a un style si particulier.

This isn't my favourite book from this author but it's still a fun read. It's a story about a priest that loses his faith and his wife, gets a bear as a birthday gift from the people in town he lives in and when people start talking about him and thinking that he is mad he goes on a journey with said bear- it's a charming book with a lot of good humor and a weird plot like most of his books are - the only part I really didn't like about this book was his choice at the end of the book and how fast he accepted the proposal from the woman that left him before and that he marries her super fast - but it was just a minor thing, I really liked the rest of the story and the characters in this book.
