The huge undertaking which was writing the "popular history" version of Sweden have gotten a thorough bashing from scholars (some parts/books more than others of course). But, if we keep in mind that parts are the authors deductions and literary liberties, the fact remains that this is the available work of this magnitude. Also, Lindqvist is a great storyteller and makes history, with a number of documented mistakes or misconceptions, accessible to a broad audience.

Book number five spans the period 1721–1771 "the era of freedom" - so called because the monarch was removed from absolute power.

En av de bästa i serien. Bilden som förmedlas är av Sverige som en halvdemokrati ... som på sätt och vis fungerar utmärkt - komers och bildning blomstrar, men korruptionen var enorm. Riksdagsmännen stod att köpa av utändska diplomater.

Denna bok är verkligen inte bara årtal, krig och kungar
