About the author

Katrin is 1/3 artist, 1/3 author, and 1/3 educator. She received her BFA degree in Photographic Illustration from the Rochester Institute of Technology and her MFA degree in Design from the School of Visual Arts. She has co-authored: Web Design Studio Secrets, Adobe Photoshop Studio Secrets, Real World Digital Photography, and authored Photoshop Restoration and Retouching and Photoshop Masking & Compositing.

Her clients include Apple Computer, Adobe Systems, Eastman Kodak, Nikon USA, Fuji Film, and the US Navy. She spends a great deal of time in airports waiting for flights to domestic and international destinations where she teaches and presents on a wide variety of digital imaging topics.

I use this book all the time for help when I’m restoring images. I love the step by step images and it’s easily written to understand. It’s been my go to for awhile and I haven’t found a book as helpful so far.

Honestly, learning Photoshop can feel overwhelming at first, especially with how many tools and settings there are to figure out. While going through similar stuff, I started experimenting with presets luminar to simplify my workflow and save time on basic adjustments. It helped me focus more on creativity instead of getting stuck tweaking every detail manually. After using it for a while, I noticed my edits became more consistent and much quicker to finish, which made the whole process a lot more enjoyable.

My first book on restoration and retouching in Photoshop after already doing it in a pro digital lab. I wanted to learn more on my own and got this book back when it first came out in 2006. I still have it and while Photoshop has been changed a lot since then, many of the techniques can still be traced back to this book.

really good set of step by step guides for how to fix problematic photographs. Other books I've read like this are too focused on how to fix near perfect photos of beautiful near flawless models. This books specialty is taking a crappy but important photo from your family album that's faded and has some damage and poor exposure and get it to look good again. Really unique and useful photoshop book.
