Do you have eyes? Do you have ears? Do you have a nose? Do you have a tail? Simms Taback's cheerful and energetic animals compare their similarities and differences. A mouse finger puppet attached to the book encourages playful, interactive reading. The puppet "talks" to the animal in the book and to the child who is listening . . . making this book uniquely interactive. Young readers will hardly be able to wait for their turn to use the puppet and participate.
Simms Taback was an American writer, graphic artist, and illustrator of more than 35 books. He won the 2000 Caldecott Medal for U.S. picture book illustration, recognizing Joseph Had a Little Overcoat, and was a runner-up in 1998 for There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly.
My son read this book all by himself today. I think it's because the font is big and there aren't too many words all stuck together in a paragraph, the pictures hint at some of the words and theres a nice pattern to it, to help a beginner reader guess. He seemed quite surprised that he could read a book and so now Simms Taback is a hit in our home.
