This title provides students with a thorough understanding of fundamental models in macroeconomics and introduces them to methods of formal macroeconomic analysis.
I used the first half of this book for an advanced undergraduate class on the macroeconomics of growth. From what I've read, I think the book is as good as one can reasonably expect a book on such a topic to be. The authors manage to strike a good balance between analytical exposition and verbal, more intuitive description. (A lot of economics textbooks say as much on the cover, but in this case it is actually true.) I also appreciated that the authors always made sure to discuss the empirical evidence for and against every theory that was presented.
On the downside, the chapters felt a bit too lengthy at times. Additionally, solutions to the exercises seem to be non-existant (even the instructors could not find any).
Jacobsen's and Sørensen's Advanced Macroeconomics is a well-written textbook, striking a good balance between clarity and depth. It effectively incorporates intermediate to advanced mathematical notions, while using theory to make sense of empirical evidence. The structured approach makes it accessible for both beginners and those with prior knowledge.
