Vitaly Shentalinsky (Виталий Шенталинский in Russian) - poet and writer - was born in Siberia. He studied journalism and worked as a journalist and for radio and television. He spent the winter at the polar station on Wrangel Island, and participated in five high latitude expeditions.

This hardcover book was worth every bit of pain it caused me to hold it up with one hand on crowded subway trains. Extremely interesting for someone with a deep interest in Russia or the Soviet Union, but I wouldn't recommend it to just anyone.
