The Temptation of Fate

Rate this book
The Temptation of Fate is a tale of naïve teenagers and ignorant young adults who tempt fate with their rebellious, value-deficient attitudes. These youngsters are never prepared to take responsibilities for their actions because they think the world owes them something. And they are inadvertently encouraged by parents who do not know the difference between parental love and negligence.
JESSICA A 17 year-old blue-eyed blonde cannot wait to be free from an assumed parental control. But when fate finally presents her with independence, she is too overwhelmed to handle it.
LAKEERA A 16 year-old African American thinks all that glitters is gold. Due to her ignorance and naivety, she gets easily lured into sex by her mother’s boyfriend. But the mother, in spite of her reckless indiscretion, has been there, done that and will not want a case of history repeating itself.
ERIC A 23 year-old African American rises up through thick and thin from a notorious Chicago south-side neighborhood to become a health care professional. He however commits some moral and legal blunders that threaten to derail everything for which he has worked.
MARY Turner’s mother is a strong woman who struggles against all odds and stereotypes to ensure the emancipation of her kids from a ghetto existence. But when her son suddenly appears to be on a downward spiral, she springs into action not only to save him from going to jail but also to avoid his relapse into a life of doldrums.

When Jessica Weather's life is changed forever due to actions motivated by youthful impudence, she, along with the rest of The Temptation Of Fate's interconnected cast of characters, begins to learn how to govern her emerging independence as a young adult. Without the help of nurturing parents, Jessica and her peers, such as Lakeera Watson, are left vulnerable to bad men and their own indiscretion.

However, throughout the course of the book, the experiences of these young women, as well as the involvement of the guiding maternal force of Mary Miller, help them learn how to become agents of their own bodies, and consequently their futures.

I'm thinking a 2.5/3 is very appropriate for the rating of this book. It was a quick read, but my goodness, something wasn't right with this story at all. I have to write the review before I decide if I should leave it a 2 rating or bump it up to a 3. Stay tuned for review.
