Firefighter paramedic Terry Flanagan saw her clinic for migrant farm workers as the perfect way to make a difference. But when Dr. Jacob Landsdowne was assigned to oversee her project, she wondered if her dreams would go up in smoke.
Two years ago a tragedy had touched both their lives and almost destroyed Jacob's career. Now he was intent on rebuilding his reputation, and Terry's clinic was an unwanted distraction. Yet, with the well-being of women and children hanging in the balance, maybe it was time Jacob put aside his trust in himself…and turn to God.
Marta Perry is a Pennsylvania-based author of over 35 novels, many of them inspirational romances. She uses her rural Pennsylvania life and her Pennsylvania Dutch heritage in writing her books, especially in her Pleasant Valley Amish series for Berkley Books and her new Amish-set suspense series for HQN Books.
Marta and her husband live in a centuries-old farmhouse in a quiet central Pennsylvania valley. They have three grown children and six beautiful grandchildren, and when she's not busy writing her next book, she's usually trying to keep up with her gardening, baking for church events, or visiting those beautiful grandkids.
This is the fifth novel in "The Flanagans" series. This novel features Terry who is the younger sister in the Flanagan family. She is a paramedic who also helps out at fire scenes. Terry is involved with getting medical services for the migrant workers in the area in which she lives. I enjoyed her dedication to helping others who weren't as fortunate in their lives as she and her family. She also has to adjust to working with Jake, who has a more practical nature than she does. I enjoyed this novel and am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Lovely light little book. Read it in about two sittings. Although I haven't read the previous books this was no hindrence to enjoying the title on it's own.
I felt a real kinship with the Terry. Slightly fool-hardy and quick to jump into situations without first assessing them. But her kind heart and determination shine through.
Meanwhile Dr Jake Landsdowne, a character from Terry's past, has enough mystery about him to want to find out more. He's both aloof and fiercely loyal to Terry, even when she doesn't realise it.
Problems from his past soon bring them into a situation where trust is forged and a bond created.
Enjoyed the subtle faith messages mixed in and would highly recommend to anyone wanting a light but rewarding tale for a cold night in.
This one gets about 2.5 stars. It was a little better.
The reason why I enjoyed this more is because of Terry. She was such a great character. She was selfless and passionate, and had issues controlling her temper because of how deeply she felt. I liked reading through her eyes. Jake was also a good character.
The story itself was a little better than the other ones. The love story was less cheesy, but there were definitely some cheesy parts. I face-palmed whenever I read certain lines. This love story also had a little less "reluctance" in it right around the middle, which I kind of liked.
Paramedic Terry Flannigan came back to Suffolk after a tragedy in Philadelphia. Dr. Jake Landsdowne was also affected by this tragedy, now in Suffolk as well, the try to work together on a migrant workers clinic.
