Priceless (2010) follows Charlotte Williams, a spoiled but magnetic New York socialite whose privileged life collapses after her father is jailed for massive fraud. Left penniless, abandoned by friends, and targeted by angry victims of her father’s crimes, Charlotte flees to New Orleans, where she reconnects with her former nanny, Miss Millie. There, she navigates new relationships, including a tense romance with Jackson, a blues musician, and a complicated attraction to FBI Agent Scarsford, who suspects she may hold key evidence against her father.
As Charlotte rebuilds her life through music and work, she becomes the target of escalating threats, including a stalker who tracks her movements online. Her rising musical profile brings opportunity but also danger, culminating in the revelation that a New York reporter is behind the harassment, driven by revenge for his family’s financial ruin. His confrontation with Charlotte ends in his accidental death when Agent Scarsford intervenes.
With her wealth restored and a music career underway, Charlotte chooses a new future: supporting her friend Kat’s independence, letting go of old entitlement, and embracing a life reshaped by loss, growth, and hard-earned self-awareness.
My thoughts:
A little shallow and conceited, but a well-written and thought-out plotline. The story had a predictable ending, but it wasn’t a bad ending. Charlotte got her way in the end, but hopefully she is a changed person who uses her money for good. I wonder if Nicole Richie saw herself as Charlotte?
