In 1993, while still enrolled, debuted in a Korean shoujo manga magazine. Since then, he gained popularity releasing a number of works and publishing books on how to draw manga targeting a wide range of reader.
In 2004 he stepped into the world of Japanese manga. His “Ultimate Space Emperor Caesar”, serialized in Monthly “Comic Gum”, was his first tankōbon in Japan.
In 2005, 9 out of Boichi’s 11 hentai one-shot serialized in Comic Aun were reunited under the volume titled “Lover in Winter”.
In 2006, he released two science fiction one-shot, “Hotel” and “Present” which, in 2008, were compiled in a volume titled Hotel along the other one-shots “It was all for the tuna”, “Stephanos” and “Diadem”.
2006 is the year of Boichi’s first serialized manga: “Sun Ken Rock” in the bi-weekly magazine Young King. This manga will also have a side-story based on Yumin in 2011 and one based on Pickaxe in 2012. 2012 will also see the serialization of “I want to feed Yumin”, another spin-off of Sun Ken Rock based on Yumin and serialized in “Monthly Young King”.
Boichi also worked on a 5 volume long manga titled Raqiya and written by Masao Yajima where he was in charge of the art and published in 2009. He also only did the art of the Brutality one-shot by Takeda Yuusuke in 2007.
In later 2011, he started the serialization of another manga titled “H.E the hunt for energy” in a new monthly magazine: Jump X. In this year, he won the Gran Guinigi prize for “It was all for the Tuna”.
To express his sentiment towards Vietnam and apologize for Korea’s action during the war, Sun Ken Rock volume 2′s royalties were donated to the humanitarian organization “Child of Viet Nam”. He asked Korean manga artists to contribute towards drawing a support page for Japan in regards to 2011′s big earthquake, and giving the royalties from the proceeding to the Red Cross. He also donated the money he planned to use to buy a new car towards helping tsunami victims.

Boichi can draw aesthetic, detailed anatomy and with that I've run out of things to appreciate.

Pretty da-gum impressive first volume. I certainly wasn't expecting the mhanwa to be so realistically drawn; then take a huge transition where it is apparently animated. I have a feeling that fans from every type of anime would find some type of enjoyment out of this. Fans of: Cowboy Bebop, Gantz, Vagabond, Basalisk and even Ninja Scroll; should certainly check it out!

Rating for entire series.
Great semi-realistic drawings, a ridiculous over the top story and overall, an entertaining read.
Minus the smut parts though. Those became annoying. I'd have switched those for more fight scenes.

I'm more familiar with Boichi through Dr. Stone, though perhaps somewhat interestingly I'd been aware of Sun-Ken Rock for a good while before Boichi's Weekly Shōnen Jump debut....
From bits I'd seen of Boichi's earlier art, I assumed his manga/manhwa would be more "serious" overall, so it was a pleasant surprise to see a lot of silliness here, especially with the cartoonish gag faces. I can also see the DNA for his later Jump-friendly art-style, with Ken himself looking like an adult prototype of Senku and Tae-Soo looks like a prototype for Tsukasa, with Yumin as something like Yuzuriha. There's a decent amount of ass and titty in Stone as well, so it's kind of cool to see Boichi draw nipples a few times here....
As of this point in the manga, Ken is kind of naive, which is maybe to be expected for his young age. There's a "shōnen" feeling right now, despite the graphic nudity in the end of the volume, so I'll be interested in seeing how Ken develops, if he remains pure-hearted or if gang life will force him to become jaded.

What can I say! Bad drawing for my taste. Full page effect only scenes, where the characters disappear before action effect! A meaningless storyline! Full size bubbles hindering chapter arts! Nah! I am not sure if I am gonna continue reading this for much longer. I will try a few more volumes. Then if I don't like it, I will leave it. No point wasting time.

It gets so insanely impossible in the premise that i cant help but get frikkin amused outta my socks. The best part is the necessity of tailored suits for being a mafioso ahahaha. Kills me. The art is incredible, waiting for the story to develop.

Comienza con demasiadas escenas cómicas para la trama de mafias que presenta. Pero, poco a poco, acabas conectando con los personajes y la historia, con el crecimiento de la banda y los peligros a los que se enfrentan.

Impressive by its realism!
A seinen manga style quite violent and confusing for an informed public, over 15 years old.
The drawings are amazing both in expressions of anger, rage and others feelings of the characters or in incredibly detailed design of clothings. The background settings are wonderfully painted too. Boichi, the mangaka, is a spectacular artist.
All the actions and fightings scenes show the movement of blows as if the reader was watching a movie or a video in slow motion and not just reading a manga.
The serious faces and violent situations are often offset by grimaces and antics from the boss. Its a bit as if Son Gokû in "Dragon Ball Z" had crossed paths and mixed himself with "Crying Freeman".

Review para toda la serie:
Creo que es un buen manga si no buscas una historia profunda ni personajes que sean psicológicamente complejos. Yo he disfrutado mucho del viaje y me ha parecido una lectura muy entretenida y excitante, menos al final que mete bastante bajón, en mi opinión.
La historia es una justificación para la acción violenta y erótica y no hay que darle muchas mas vueltas. Se supone que hay un mensaje de fondo pero, sinceramente, no creo que la moraleja sea el aspecto más destacable de la obra. Ahora, si disfrutas de las historias de yakuzas (jopok en este caso), las escenas violentas, peleas, romance, sexo, venganza... y mucho humor, este manga te da todo lo que quieras y más, y es tu manga. Yo me lo he pasado teta leyendo la mayor parte de los tomos, destacando especialmente algunas de las secuencias de acción y de sexo que me han parecido geniales, alguna carcajada me ha provocado también alguna de los gags cómicos, que no son pocos.
El dibujo es magnifico, muy detallado y con unas representaciones anatómicas espectaculares y un tanto exageradas, tanto de los cuerpos masculinos como de los femeninos. Pero creo que encajan perfectamente con el tono de la obra. Las escenas de lucha son también muy exageradas, me ha recordado en algún momento a la saga de videojuegos "Yakuza". Sólo que aquí todo es mucho mas bestia, lo cual se agradece.
Me parece que es una obra valiente y que se atreve a todo lo que quiera contar el autor, que además parece un tío bastante majo a juzgar por los epílogos que se pueden leer en algunos tomos y en los que cuenta anécdotas y curiosidades de la producción del manga. Así como del mensaje del mismo, su pasión por la comida o los culos, jeje.
Resumiendo, me parece una gran obra de acción y disfrute sin tapujos, políticamente incorrecta, con hostias a mansalva, aliñada con secuencias de alto contenido erótico y humor. Lástima que el guion no sea un poco mejor, podría haber sido mi serie favorita.

Al principio no me terminaba de cerrar, pero después me logró entretener bastante. Creo que es un poco temprano para opinar esto, pero no me parece que vaya a ser ninguna obra maestra ni nada cercano a eso. Aún así, es un manga PERFECTO para desconectar.
No me esperaba para nada la cantidad de humor que tiene el tomo. Entré pensando que era una historia con un enfoque totalmente serio en cuanto a las mafias, es por eso que me chocó bastante al principio. Se nota mucho que el autor no pretendía crear una obra profunda, sino simplemente una historia divertida, con momentos serios y buenos paneles de pelea.
Hay que entrar a leerla sabiendo que buena parte de lo que ocurre es totalmente absurdo, porque en el caso contrario, te pasa lo mismo que a mí.
PD: El motivo que hago tanto énfasis en lo "simple" de la historia en esta obra y no en otras que leo, como por ejemplo Grand Blue, es que a Sun-ken lo venden únicamente por su parte seria y no por la comedia, que forma una parte MUY grande de lo que es.

Tengo que admitir que Boichi puede ser uno de mis dibujantes favoritos y por mucho, tanto por la expresividad de sus personajes como por su estilo en general. Ahora, hablando del manga, por un lado el dibujo es espectacular y notas el cariño con el que se ha echo, por otro lado la historia, que me es muy interesante y más con el giro de adulto que le da y con los temas que toca, y el como los aborda.
En general quiero recomendar este manga bastante, y más si quieres una historia divertida pero que a la par tenga temas adultos. No lo recomiendo nada si eres una persona sensible, y aunque arriba haya puesto unos de los pocos contenidos que hay no los he puesto todos.

Un très bon début

J’ai beaucoup aimé ce premier volume. Je ne savais pas trop à quoi m’attendre mais ce que je peux vous dire c’est que j’ai beaucoup rigolé en lisant ce manga. Il y a tellement de scènes comiques, j’adore. De plus, on a un personnage principal assez sympa, très attachant et surtout avec une bonne morale, ce que j’apprécie énormément.

Rysunki świetne, fabuła fajna, ale bardzo specyficzne poprowadzenie fabuły. Tu nic ze sobą się nie łączy, przypadkowe zdarzenia wpadają na siebie z woli autora, do tego dochodzi bardzo... ograniczona rola kobiet, które tak naprawdę stają się obiektem seksualnym, a nie postacią w fabule. Nie mniej, jak ktoś lubi bijatykę, dużych, silnych facetów i pragnie spędzić wieczór na czytaniu czegoś niewymagającego myślenia, to pewnie tytuł jest idealny xd

Interesting noir premise with a masterful Boichi illustrating, driving this forward. Ken has potential be a worthy antihero. Very happy to see Yumin as central to the story, and makes those Yumin standalone comics ("I Want to Feed Yumin") all the more appealing and satisfying.

Avis sur l'ensemble des tomes : une excellente découverte portée par une esthétique irréprochable. Le seul bémol, qui pourrait freiner certains lecteurs, est son orientation marquée vers un public masculin.
