The vulnerability and growth present here is unmistakable. This marks a personal favorite in the poetry chapter of 2023. A young Patti Smith at work.

“A feeling I thought would never quite return, until I saw the rain and I loved it like the sun.”

I connected with this so deeply. Each individual poem strikes a chord, but when read in order, it absolutely floored me. The emotional journey you go through from beginning to end made me realize how much easier I need to be on myself and reminded me to live in the present moment. I especially loved the piece “A Feeling I Thought Would Never Quite Return”, which reminded me that there’s still a part of me that can see beauty in this world (and within myself) and I can use that joy to create art with passion again. I genuinely couldn’t put it down. It’s a quick read and I highly recommend enjoying it in one sitting to experience the full weight of raw feelings at play. I can’t wait to read more of her words.

At The Beginning Of Yesterday, by Tiffiny Rose Allen, is an evocative anthology of poetry, exquisitely capturing the nuances of day-to-day moments. Throughout her verse, Allen weaves beauty and elegance into every line, presenting the world in a poignant light. The collection delves into universal themes, ensuring that it resonates with a diverse audience.

From the pangs of heartbreak to the transformative powers of healing, Allen's words serve as a balm to readers who have traveled similar paths. Her prose has the ability to stir empathy, fostering a shared sense of humanity and reminding us of the interconnected nature of our experiences. With a blend of ethereal and grounded narratives, Allen escorts her readers through the intricate dance of love, loss, self-awareness, and the vast array of emotions that define us.

Each piece is meticulously sculpted with vivid imagery, metaphors, and seemingly effortless phrasing that tugs at the reader's heartstrings. I feel certain poems might benefit from a slightly more streamlined structure, but Allen’s writing talent remains evident. She possesses an innate talent to artistically render emotions, making them palpable to her audience.

At The Beginning Of Yesterday stands as a celebration of poetry's timeless capacity to delve into the very core of human emotion. Allen's anthology is essential for those who appreciate the artistry of language molded into verses that span the broad spectrum of human feelings. Ideal for readers yearning for deep, authentic connections through words and shared experiences, this collection promises solace and inspiration, making it an invaluable gem for any poetry lover's library.

I purchased the paperback version of Tiffiny Rose Allen's "At The Beginning of Yesterday" from her table at the Sunshine State Book Festival in January 2024 and took my time reading through the pages in preparation for a National Poetry Month review at my booktube channel. It was a lovely experience! This chapbook, published in partnership with Indie Earth Books is a beautifully formatted presentation of thoughtful and thought-inducing poems. I can see why it is a Literary Titan Book Award winner.

I enjoyed the sense of reflection, while looking to an optimistic future, threaded through the work. And I LOVED the positivity hiding within Moths (and Moths 2) with the idea that moths are drawn to the light...Tiffiny wove depth into a number of these poems that spoke kindly to me and I loved that. I fully appreciated the poem Sea Glass, which echoed my belief that yes, we humans are supposed to feel. We're supposed to feel emotions, and I'm thankful for the emotions Tiffiny let us feel in "At The Beginning of Yesterday."

Highly recommend!
