Lady Eloise Bartholomew's trip to Australia on the shirttails of her adventurous brother ends in tragedy when he dies from a fever. But with the conventions of English society suspended on the high seas, she finds passion and excitement in the arms of a rugged ship's captain—only to be dumped back into the ton, still burning from the fire ignited in her and the loss of the only man she could ever love.More at home on his ship than dallying with the ton, Gabriel Lyons, now the Duke of Dale, intended never to set foot in London again. But when an elder brother dies, and the woman who claimed his heart over his love for the ocean brings him home, he knows he has to face the secrets of his past. He can only pray their love will survive the scandal that sent him away, the lies he has told her, and the duel he must fight for his honor and her hand.
Tamara is an Australian author who grew up in an old mining town in country South Australia, where her love of history was founded. She loves to write romance novels in an array of genres, including regency, medieval, and time travel.
This is the second Naughty Nibble by Tamara Gill that I have had the pleasure to read. Again I loved it. Again it was HOT. Again, the characters were unique. I, for one, cannot wait for more of Ms. Gill’s work to be published so that I can read them.
This was a Naughty Nibble, so it was a really quick read (only 33 pages). Just in case the blurb for the book doesn’t spark your interest, here are four things you should know before diving into this one:
1. There’s a sea captain turned reluctant Duke. 2. There is an independent and saucy heroine who doesn’t have a problem with being independent and saucy. And maybe a little bit on the wanton side. 3. Carriage sex. (One of my favorite things in Regency era books.) 4. A duel to avenge a woman’s honor.
Each of these traits makes this book worth reading (and rereading and rereading some more). Gill somehow manages to develop characters, develop a plot, and create some intense physical chemistry in 33 pages. It’s astounding, and definitely something that will keep me reading Tamara Gill’s books for a long time to come.
Gabe is a ships captain who seduced Eloise who was an innocent at the time then refused to journey onwards to England promising never to set foot on its shores again! Eloise angry and confused promised herself to move on forget Gabe and marry well! Gabe has secrets and lots of them that forced him to return and accept his inheritance! Secrets have a way of coming to light! Eloise is dismayed and disturbed by what she hears did she even know him at all? More secrets are revealed and Eloise knows she loves him now if she save his life....
Audio book. I enjoyed but not for stickler of regency norms - the h travels on a boat without any chaperone, not even a maid… that would not be done. And her reputation would have been completely ruined.
I have to admit, I was sold on Tamara Gill’s A CAPTAIN’S ORDER – A DUKE’S COMMAND the moment I saw the cover. There’s just something sublimely romantic about a tall ship, a rugged sea captain, and a passionate embrace—particularly when the aforementioned embrace keeps you from pitching headlong over the side of the boat into rolling waves. (Talk about breathless!) Throw in the scandal of a forbidden affair—it is not proper, it seems, for an English Lady to frolic with a wayward pirate—and you’ve got some most tasty fodder for a little frolicking of your own.
A CAPTAIN’S ORDER – A DUKE’S COMMAND offers a sinfully delicious glimpse into the affairs (ahem) of Lady Eloise Bartholomew, who snagged herself a lip-smacking morsel of a sea captain when she hooked up with Gabriel Lyons on an oceanic voyage. Turns out she’s more of a wanderlust at heart than a member of the ton (Britain’s high society) has a proper right to be. Long after she’s deposited on her home soil, her thoughts are wet with memories of Gabe’s rogue hands washing over every delicate inch of her skin … and her thoughts aren’t the only thing getting drenched.
Ms. Gill does a fabulous job of placing readers in the era and creating a vivid scene, her skill of crafting a compelling story in short space evident from the first page. I’m most impressed with the depth of this tale, in particular with the seamless blend of past events into the here and now. The pages simply burst with plot, the facets of which are expertly handled to sweep readers off on a seductive, smokin’ hot journey—so hot, in fact, that it’s apt to leave you wishing you owned something in proper royal English attire just so your skirts could likewise be torn asunder.
Divinely fulfilling, Tamara Gill’s A CAPTAIN’S ORDER – A DUKE’S COMMAND is a voyage that can’t be missed (as is Gabe’s gangplank … but don’t tell Eloise I said that.)
Lady Eloise thought she lost the love of her life when Gabe, the ship’s captain, pushed her away after some of the best love making she could recall. Upon her return to England, she finds herself in Gabe’s arms again, and learns that he’s Gabriel Lyons, the Duke of Dale.
I found the characters and the plot enjoyable. I especially liked Lady Eloise. Although the story was short, I felt like Ms Gill developed her very well. I loved how Gabe’s character had sinned and was redeemed in the readers’ eyes. I wish the relationship between Lady Eloise and Gabe would have been developed more. Most of the love happened off stage, and the story in the book was more of a reunion between them. The love scenes were hot and sensual. The plot twist near the end was spectacular and moved the story forward while developing the characters. I hated to see it end and really wished it could have been longer.
A Captain's Order - A Duke's Com... ~Tamara Gill (13) I recieved an arc from the author for an honest review!!, April 29, 2015 By Bevieann 61 This review is from: A Captain's Order - A Duke's Command (Hot Regency Read) (Scandalous Series Book 2) (Kindle Edition) I really loved this book! Her trials after her brother's death left her emotional and scared and she entered into an affair with the ship captain I think to ease her mourning and because she was vulnerable! Then she fell in love but knew it could only be temporary because of who they were! She didn't know his secret! The story touched me in a very happy way! I hoped he wouldn't let her go! Then when he went after her I almost did a happy dance my hubby thought I lost my mind! Lol this was an honest to goodness 5 star love story that I would recommend to everyone!! Tamara Gill is a wonderful author I haven't found a book of hers that I haven't liked!
Tamara Gill is a wonderfully skilled writer. Although only eighty pages Gill is able to weave a beautiful love story with characters that you can't help but cheer for in this lovely little story. Gabe is a strong and masculine hero, and Eloise is a heroine that is not afraid to go after she wants. I love a story with a strong female lead and this story delivers. I have never been a fan of historical romance until reading Gill's books. I must admit I just have fallen in love her books and characters and eagerly wait for more.
This is a very quick read with the story covering the ground at a rapid pace. The characters are well rounded considering the shortness of the piece and the story, which picks up at what is really the last chapter of a longer tale is finished off quite nicely. It is a fairly hot read which puts it in the erotic category with some robust language. I enjoyed this for a quick dip into a rollicking romance. Not a lot that is new or original but freshly presented and nicely written.
Eloise's trip to Australia ends with the death of her brother. Desperate to get back home to England she begs the captain of a ship to grant her passage. He at first is reluctant. But caves in telling her the only place he has is a small closet, next to his quarters. Six months at sea and Eloise finds her attraction to the captain growing deeper. Will she submit to her desire,
This was the second book of this author's books I read and so can see her writing blossoming smoother with the stories. I plan to re-read and wished I wrote a review when I read it but my notes gave it a A- and "one emotional read on the seas and off". So I must re-read. This is so a new favorite author this year.
an honest review for a book. This book was a great read. The back story Gabe has makes the story a great one. The way they go about dealing with it makes the high of this story. The love these two share is a one of a kind. Eloise and Gabe have a wonderful journey that gives them the love they need to overcome Gabe ' s past coming back to get him when he returns home. This is a must read!
Tamara Gill is a talented writer with a knack for creating vivid chracters that take your interest immediately. So, curl up with a warm blanket and your favourite bar of chocolate, and enjoy 'A Captain's Order - A Duke's Command'.
A Captain’s Order - A Duke’s Command is the second novella in the Scandalous London erotic series. The story begins in the New South Wales Colonies, 1810, and continues six months later off the coast of England onboard, in 1811. The remaining story is set in London, 1811. I read it in a day.
I have categorised pirate/swashbuckling into the categorisation but it’s merely to reference the time spent onboard a ship between Australia and Africa, and the sea-faring words and dialogue.
A Gentleman’s Promise: 4- stars A Captain’s Order - A Duke’s Command: 3+ stars
Lady Eloise Bartholomew’s adventurous trip to Australia with her brother ends in tragedy when he dies from a fever. Begging for passage back to England, Eloise finds herself onboard a ship for the next six months.
Gabriel Lyons now the Duke of Dale, intended never to set foot in England again. He captains a ship, and calls Africa home.
This is book 2 in Gill's Scandalous London series and was a quick listen for me - captivating and steamy! Eloise is left distraught and desperate to go back home to London after the loss of her brother. Captain Gabe allows passage on his ship and finds himself quickly smitten and seduced by the Lady. After safe passage Eloise can't stay on the ship with Gabe and Gabe can't find himself to go into London society - but can their love that developed on the high seas be what they both need to complete each other so they can both find their HEA or will secrets tear their newly found love apart? A very steamy historical romance that has a smooth flowing story line and wonderful narration.
I received this as part of a collection (books 1-3) for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read.
Eloise’s adventure to Australia results in the death of her brother after only a couple of weeks. She decides to head back to England and manages to secure her place on a ship by begging the Captain for her passage. Captain Gabriel Lyons is at first reluctant to have her on board but there is something special about Lady Eloise Bartholomew.
Once Eloise is back in London she can’t help but to reminisce about the time she spent with the rugged Sea Captain. About how Gabe made her feel things she never felt before. But he forced her to leave him as he stayed in Africa.
At a much anticipated masquerade ball, Eloise is shocked to hear that well known voice of her sea Captain who is the reluctant Duke of Dale after the death of his older brother. But their reunion isn’t all ‘smooth sailing’ (pun not intended but it works) as things from Gabe’s past come to light.
This one is the shortest of the series and it definitely should've been longer. I feel like the beginning was very much rushed, not to mention the relationship between the two main characters. The conclusion with the heroine forgiving the hero was also pretty quickly done, I would have liked her debating the choice a bit longer. But, I still enjoyed this. I'll see how the last one turns out, but this is probably not the only series from Gill I'll ever read.
Tragedy and adventure come together in this tale of Lady Eloise Bartholomew's trip to Australia with her brother. When her brother falls ill and does not survive, she makes her way back to London but finds her heart engaged with the captain of the ship. Can they come to an understanding when each are going in different directions? A great must read novella
WOW. I absolutely loved this book. A sexy Duke, a scandalous Lady and steamy, hot, sweaty sex. A story after my heart. The only downside is the story is to short. I can not wait to read anything by Lady Tamara. Keep em coming, pun intended.😁
Eloise and Gabe are interesting characters. I wish this story had been longer in order to get more of them and their stories. I enjoyed what we got. They are good together on page.
Historical English romance mostly set on a boat traveling from Australia to England. Lady Eloise Bartholomew lost her beloved brother to an Australia fever so she immediately hops on the next boat to go back home and finds love with the mysterious captain. Lord Gabriel Lyons, the Duke of Dale has been a thrown back into a life that he didn't want to he hid behind his Captain's title on the high seas. Tons of sexy scenes, very little plot, but still well written and edited. 50ish pages and kindle freebie 2 stars
