Tsugumi Ohba

As stated by the profile placed at the beginning of each Death Note manga, Ōba collects teacups and develops manga plots while holding his knees on a chair, similar to a habit of L, one of the main characters of the series.
There is speculation that Tsugumi Ōba is a pen name and that he is really Hiroshi Gamō. Pointing out that in Bakuman the main character's uncle was a one-hit wonder manga artist who worked on a gag super hero manga, very similar to Gamō and Tottemo! Luckyman in all aspects. Also that the storyboards drawn by Ōba greatly resemble Tottemo! Luckyman in style.

This series had SUCH a strong start but it's definitely starting to become too complex/convoluted. There is too much going on in my opinion and I don't care for a lot of the new characters. I'm definitely still enjoying the series and can't wait to see how it wraps up in the next volume, but it's just disappointing but I'm not loving the later volumes as much.

I’m a little obsessed with this series. I’m rlly sad it’s abt to end. The plot has developed so nicely over the series and overall would highly recommend to anyone looking for a manga to read. It is dark tho, and a little smart and in depth. So basically not for the faint of heart.
🍎 𝐂ɦα𝗋α𝖼𝗍𝖾𝗋𝗌 🍎
𝙻𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝: Light is such a complex character. He’s basically the definition of morally grey. He’s one of my favorites bc he’s like triple crossing rn and he’s one of the smartest main characters I’ve ever seen in a series before.
𝚁𝚢𝚞𝚔: I love seeing Ryuk in the panels- it automatically gets me excited. He looks so creepy and bad but he’s actually rlly funny and he’s so entertained by humans which is so cute. He’s overall a great addition to this series.
𝙽𝚎𝚊𝚛: Near is my favorites. I like how he’s always playing with toys (some of them actually looked lowkey really fun ngl-). Also has Im sure you’ve seen if you read my reviews for the other books in this series, I love a good character design.
𝙼𝚎𝚕𝚕𝚘: He annoyed me. Honestly, it made me angry seeing his face on the cover of this one. He was a lot cooler at the beginning and in the past few books, but then he just kinda get rlly eh :/ Also I didn’t see the purpose in the weird shower scene where he just stood outside while that lady was taking a shower…?
𝙼𝚒𝚜𝚊: I honestly feel bad for her. She rlly doesn’t see how much Light is using her and I rlly started to like her. She just keeps telling herself that Light loves her but he’s absolutely using her. It’s pretty sad actually. She used to annoy me but I think I just misunderstood her.
𝙼𝚊𝚝𝚜𝚞𝚍𝚊: He wasn’t in this much, but I wanted to put a section for him bc he is one of the most underrated characters. Everyone talks abt how dumb he is and he just ignores them. He’s so great and I hope to see him more. One of my favorite panels was when he and Ryuk were aggressively eating apples together.

𝙽𝚎𝚠 𝙻: Light being the new L made things a lot more complex and added a lot of moving parts. I’m still so shocked that L died- he rlly seemed like one of those characters who would last. But jokes on me.
𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙳𝚎𝚊𝚝𝚑 𝙽𝚘𝚝𝚎: I love the shinagamis and the Notes. It’s a rlly cool concept that you can rlly do a lot with. The author built such a world out of this and made it so complex and smart and kept me invested through the whole thing.

So, this is one of the coolest story lines I’ve seen in a while. This series has been a rlly fun ride and I love the black editions and I’m a sucker for sprayed edges. I also love the way these look on my bookshelf and I can’t wait to finish this series! :D

I am curious to see how this all wraps up. The frist two Black Edition volumes (technically four volumes) were great. But the time jump and change in plot has left me not getting excited to read.

Hmmmm...I think I might be being stingy with the star rating here but ahhhhh, this series is becoming bloody convoluted!! *clutches head* I found myself re-reading several pages since I hadn't a clue what was going on at times :/ which has really started to affect my enjoyment of the series.
Just when you thought the plot couldn't possibly be any more intricate, Ohba adds a hundred other things in to the mix! No wonder my head feels like a goldfish bowl!
I'm also still not over my heartbreak concerning the loss of a character in Vol. 4, and despite liking Near (not so much Mello), they aren't a patch on L.
However, the artwork remains stunning and the concept is a highly original one. I'm definitely excited to find out how this series ends.

SERIE DEATH NOTE vol 5
Lettura di gruppo E&L
Mamma mia questo volume è noiosissimo, tanto che ho rischiato di addormentarmi.
In alcuni punti è un pò più intressante, ma purtroppo non è abbastanza.
Mi dispiace perchè l'idea di tutta la storia è molto bella.
Spero si riprenda nel prossimo e ultimo volume.

I've committed to this until the end but oh my, they are just dragging this out aren't they?
There's been a lot of changes in the world of chasing Kira. New players exist to capture Kira while the world has somehow chosen Kira as their new God - this might be the most unbelievable part of this. There's TV shows devoted to Kira, Kira's word is now law, and anyone who opposes Kira is now the hunted.
At this point, nothing shocks me. It's just more cat and mouse games while Light just chills and laughs at everyone running around like sheep. In case you can't tell, I cannot stand Light. What irks me is this story started off so well with a great battle between Light and L. But all that is gone now and the story is missing that umph that was there when Light and L battled wits. It just seems like everyone is missing brain cells and just caving to childrens whims. Moving on to the final installment and I just hope this is wrapped up with some sort of just desserts for Light.

I think this is the point in the series where maybe it should have ended already.
Oh the plot is just as intricate as ever, it's just that it's been intricate for five volumes now and quite frankly I'm having a hard time following exactly what is going on, or why characters are doing what they're doing.
I'm still eager to see how the conflict between Light, Near and Mello resolves, and whether Light achieves his dream of a "perfect" world. I'm also enjoying how Light's complex position is making it increasingly difficult for him to keep control of the death note.
In short, I am enjoying the series, it's just that it's been so complex for so long now, I've sort've lost sight of things.
Still, only one volume to go. It'll be interesting to see how it wraps up.

I will begin my review by saying this book wasn't the best compared to the other volumes.
There were some slow parts but I felt that it gave me a better understanding of the story. Also, throughout volume 10 I felt as if I had read and been through that part already: Near is basically a mini L and suspects Light as being Kira, just as L did. He finds out what Light is doing and tries to provide evidence for his theories but is still unsure.
Near has similar traits to L such as the stacking of items, the way he sits and even the way he looks! I found this particularly clever as it just made him seem like L's son... Even though we all know that's almost impossible. ;)
Even though there were areas within these volumes that were slow, I still loved the story and it was filled with suspense and in all honesty... The ending made me feel sorry for Misa and left it wide open for a bunch of scenarios that this series could end on.

The story is getting back to be interesting after Ls death and with the intro of new character the story has reached new level of curiosity.

As some people have previously noted this is the most boring and repetitive volume out of all.. Especially volume 11. But towards the end of volume 12 things are finally getting exciting and interesting.

Found these very cool Black Editions at my library - this one contains Volumes 9 & 10.
This manga has become a tad too convoluted with too many characters thrown into the mix. I continue to enjoy the twists and unexpected turns, and I"m curious to see how this one ends.

That's the penultimate installment done!
This edition collected volumes 9 & 10, whilst not the most action packed, still a very twisty and intriguing read. The addition of Near and Mellow definitely have spiced things up a bit for Light, plus the introduction of Mikami has definitely amped up the story more. Sadly, not enought Misa in this volume... There's always room for more Misa! I Also, Matsuda is such a sweet angel baby, he makes me cackle, he is adorable.
Now onto the final volume... I'm not emotionally prepared! But hey, then I can rewatch the anime!
