That Their Words May Be Used Against Them

Rate this book
This vast storehouse of quotes, compiled by Dr. Henry M. Morris and divided into sections, gives much food for thought to those confused by evolutionary theory. These relevant quotations bring to light the fatal weaknesses of the entire structure of evolutionism - inadvertently exposed by its own promoters!

This book is great for Christians who feel like their intellect is being challenged because of their belief in a literal Genesis.

The book is a great illustration of lying by taking things out of context! It shows why quote-mining is a bad idea both for one's own understanding and for communicating with others.
I suppose the classic quote-mining example is the quote from Darwin expressing how absurd it seems to think that the eye evolved: it completely ignores the context where Darwin explains that this first reaction is wrong and sets out a simple mechanism whereby eyes did in fact evolve.
So the real lesson of the book is how desperately Morris scrambled to support his ideas, stooping to the same sort of abuse of literature as is exemplified by the old joining of two verses that don't belong together: "Judas went and hanged himself -- you go and do likewise". Rather than exposing any weaknesses in the theory of evolution, Morris (perhaps unwittingly) reveals how shallow his scholarship actually is.

In the eternal debate of Evolution vs Creation, sometimes the points of the arguments get lost in the fog of words- truth, lies, and hyperbole. This book is a very good source for establishing valid points for the creation argument by using the very words of Evolution scientists and proponents against their world views. This is a very long, technical read; but it is also very revealing and candid as far as looking at various segments of macro-evolution through the eyes of the evolutionist. It is also a useful tool as it links the statement to the article/publication it was made down to the page number. It is broken down into various fields of science so the reader is able to concentrate on a specific area if they wish.

Reading through many of the statements, I come to understand that many scientist and academics that believe in the (macro) evolution theory are thoroughly disapointed and/or frustrated with the lack of evidence in their field to support their view. Many seem to maintain their faith in the theory only because of their belief that another branch of science has evidence that their field lacks. It is when you begin to study the other fields that you find they feel the same way and that some other branch must have the real evidence - but none of them do.

Many of those cited are also equally frustrated with the numerous frauds and hoaxes thrust upon the public in various branches of science i.e. Piltdown man, Nebraska man, Lucy, Lyell's geologic column, Stephen Jay Gould's "Punctuated-Equalibrium, or "Saltations", etc.
