Blinded in a freak accident, Kai's vision is restored years later through a transplant. His new eyes, however, can't seem to focus on anyone but Dr. Hizuki. Is it because of the doctor's alluring scent, which Kai finds strangely familiar?

More like a 2.5, rounded up since I enjoyed the story overall. The art is okay, generic for the 2000s.

Ebihara's style ranges from mediocre to bad to fucking awful. Especially the lips are sometimes so baldy drawn and out of proportion I had to laugh.

KITH MEEE

Look at these peachy vaginal lips!
LOOK AT THEM!
I burst out laughing when I saw this image, it's so badly drawn. Stupid vagina frog face...

What's the story about?
Kai is blinded by a mysterious accident some *coughcough* years ago. Apparently, he has a girlfriend, a nurse, but they share absolutely no intimacy, passion, or barely screen time that it's clear it's a set up for shoehorned drama nobody cares about.
Kai gets new corneas and the first thing he sees in his doctor, Hizuki, a cold, blonde beauty.
Kai suddenly wants to be with Hizuki because reasons. Basically because SOMEBODY has to move the plot forward. The first chapter is absolutely confusing.
There is no time used to set up relations between the characters, introduce the characters, or do anything interesting at all. It's just Kai running around and thinking of Hizuki because. Yes, because.
Spoiler alert, the new eyes he got belonged to Hizuki's now dead lover, who died protecting Hizuki from a car.
Now, you think it would be an interesting scenario: a young man being in a relationship with a woman for years and being taken care of by her, a doctor transplating the eyes of his lover into another man, and the patient suddenly getting interested in the doctor. It sounds like the perfect plot for drama and interesting conflicts.
Well, do not fear, because this manga does nothing with it!
The story is rushed and forced, the characters completely blank, and the drama is a beat over the head. I felt nothing while reading it. I did not care because nothing felt genuine and there was no time to get to know the people and develop the tension.

Hizuki then runs off to Norway and Kai follows him. Here we have a few interesting scenes and one I mostly liked, bu by then it was too late. We even get a short flashback to Hizuki and his former boyfriend, another dramatic story. These few pages were better executed than most of the manga.

Verdict: Interesting conflict with lots of potential wasted with rushed and less than mediocre story telling and too much tropeness. We even get the evil ex-girlfriend bit and almost break-up. The drawing style is, to be honest, bad. Awful proportions and lifeless drawings. The only two faces the characters had were "blank" and "crying". Also, awful way of using panels. Very empty and no dynamic.

This yaoi manga is based very, very loosely on the fairy tale of The Snow Queen. A little boy gets glass in his eyes and damages his corneas, which leaves him blinded. His best friend is a little girl who starts doting on him and never stops. When they grow up, she becomes a nurse so she can better care for him. By the time they are adults, he is largely dependent on her, and they decide to get married.

Meanwhile, a gifted doctor is tired of his homophobic father's disparaging remarks about him and his lover and decides to leave Japan and go to Norway to escape, and asks his lover to go with him. Just before they can leave, his boyfriend is struck by a car and killed. The only thing the doctor can save are his eyes.

He ends up transplanting his lover's eyes into the blind young man. The brokenhearted doctor is the first thing the man sees when he opens his eyes with restored vision, and he feels completely captivated by him, to the point where he gives up on everything and everyone on his life to be with the doctor. The doctor can't resist giving in to one night of passion, though he knows in his heart he's only making love to the memory of the man he lost. Afterward he knows he can't break the couple up, so he flees to Norway like he always planned. But his transplant patient goes after him.

There's some additional drama with the doctor's father and the patient's jilted fiancee, but I found it all enjoyable. The doctor is a sort of a "snow queen," because his heart seems frozen and takes time to warm up to having a new love in his life, and Norway is his "ice palace." I thought the translations were well-done, the theme was clever, and the relationship was tender and actually seemed to grow as the story went on. It's not on my list of favorites because I wasn't really crazy about the characters, but as a whole it was well-done and I enjoyed the read. I would read it again.

The overall concept of the story I thought was really interesting. I think that it could have been its own series and spread out with more plotted out story but this single manga was simple and cute and I enjoyed it. The bonus prequel story actually started a little bit more steamy like I hoped the actual story would be, but the over chapter was pretty sad.

I really enjoyed this story. I love that it was one continuous story and we really got to watch the characters relationship develop. I also really like the early 2000's artwork. This definitely hit in the feels at times.

The storyline is very interesting, and I was looking forward to it. But in my opinion the author didn't quite tab the full potential here because the drama and the feelings or the connection between the two MCs were not as deep as I hoped. The author said at the end that she had to clip here and there to fit in the prequel at the end. I'm definitely glad she fit that in but at the same time it's a shame that the main story had to suffer a bit for it.
I thought this would be a tear jerker and after the main story, which was alright, I was a bit dissappointed. It didn't move me as much as I hoped. But then came the prequel to the story and I got what I was hoping for all along. I knew what would happen of course, but I was reduced to tears at the end nevertheless.

I don't know how accurate the medical situation or rather the healing process was (the timeframe was a bit vague). I felt like the author took some artistic licence here and it seemed a tad unrealistic but since I have no clue about eye surgery I take it as it is.

The artwork is really nice, especially towards the end. This obviously took a long time until it was finished and you see it in the drawings. I love Kai's new haircut!

Because of the prequel I'm giving this 3.5 stars and will generously round it up to 4 stars in my rating above.
