An amusing collection of Canada-centric outdoor anecdotes, most with an odd twist to them. Entertaining, but not engrossing, and uneven in the way of many anthologies. Memorable moments include a cougar trapped in an outhouse, a lumber-hungry porcupine, a hitchhiking ride with a leadfoot, and the titular watercraft-consuming beaver.

Readers of Matt Jackson's anthologies of wilderness tales are asked to send in their funniest stories occurring in the Great Outdoors. So, like most anthologies, A Beaver Is Eating My Canoe has some gems and some stories that you may think are a waste of your reading time. I most enjoyed the young man hitchhiking in Canada who is picked up by a guy who gives him the most harrowing car ride of his life.

Having travelled through many of the places mentioned in the book, and experienced a few of the stories mentioned (though not the pig feed one I hasten to add!), I thoroughly enjoyed it. Whether a traveller or not, this book should be read just to see what to do, and what not to do, out there when seeing the world.

This is a book I have read multiple times and I love it every time!
Some of these stories are better than others, with the beaver one being the ultimate in my opinion.
This book is a quick and light read but one that I would highly recommend to all Canadians and outdoor adventurers.
