Getaway driver Jazz and ex-thief Donatti are out for a romantic weekend. But they’re lost in the mountains, and something magical is going on--and dangerous. And for once, it’s not Donatti's fault. A story connected to Sonya Bateman’s urban fantasy djinn series that begins with Master of None. Includes a chapter from Master of None and an exclusive peek at the sequel Master and Apprentice.
I read this a while ago. I think I liked it fine but I barely remember. I’m estimating based on my love of the series V’s how novellas usually turn out.
Jazz and Gavyn make the mistake of trying to go on a romantic getaway without kids or djinns to interrupt them. But of course they manage to get lost in the dark on a country road in the middle of nowhere and are alarmed to see the wrecked cars littering the road from years of accidents...
I love the dynamic between Jazz and Gavyn, though I do miss not seeing the long suffering Ian trying to get them out of trouble. Jazz wakes alone in a strangers cabin to be given some shocking news and she knows that she has to find a way to escape. But it is not going to be that easy to get away from a djinn called Seth who likes the idea of keeping Jazz as a mate.
This has the right mix of tension and action which I would expect in the series and the plot itself was interesting. I don't want to spoil it but I liked the twists and turns that it took. If you liked the first book in the series, I recommend this as a nice addition.
I prefer my men to be more dominant so this story didn't work well for me, but others may enjoy. Jazz was a likeable tough woman who can take care of herself and her boyfriend when needed

"cut the wisecracks. I'm trying to drive." "can't have that now. you'll get a DWL, and that'll go on your record forever. whey they put you away, they'll make you watch barney videos and listen to rico suave all day in your cell." "DWL? do I even want to know?" "driving while laughing. its a serious offense in the great state of new York. have you ever seen a trooper crack a smile?"
"It's dislocated, this is going to hurt." "got any booze?" "fresh out." "okay. i'll just man up and faint."
