Lords of the Var #5

The Pirate Prince

The Pirate

Prince Jarek has no official title in space. Known simply as Captain to a misfit crew, he sails the high sky doing what he pleases. That is until one of his men is kidnapped by intergalactic drug dealers. Now he's on a mission to save his wayward friend. But instead of a crew man, he rescues a woman desperately trying to be free of her master. Or so he thought.

The Princess

Princess Zhang Mei has just been told her future by a seer. It seems fate has given her in marriage to Prince Song Lok--future ruler of the only other dynasty on her home planet of Líntian. She will do her duty to her family, but first she wants something for herself. And when the pirates come to steal, she knows exactly what she wants that something to be--her.

I absolutely loved Prince Jarek, he turned out to be the complete opposite of what I thought he would be like, I thought he would be even more arrogant than his brothers and not such a romantic! He embraced his feelings right away, unlike his brothers. He fell in love with the petite Mei and accepted it and told her so, no beating around the bush for this Prince. No frustration there!

Mei is a Princess, that has always dreamed of being as free as the wind and takes the opportunity when she sees the pirates kidnapping 2 girls from her planet, little does she know that she is about to embark on the journey of her life, literally. She is enthralled by the beauty of Jarek, she has never seen such a specimen of man. Mei is not a girl to keep her desires pent up much to the pleasure of Jarek.. He has never met a woman who can match him in his passion.

Finding their mates has been quite turbulent, except for Jarek, but now all the Lords of the Var are happily mated and are parents.. I have so enjoyed reading this series. I simply am in love with them and I look forward to reading all about their adventures.

My hats off to you Ms. Pillow!

[Originally reviewed for RT Magazine, though the submission was apparently lost and reassigned without this reviewer's knowledge.]

While Jarek comes across as somewhat more likeable than his twin brother Reid (from the previous book), he still starts off as a priggish and self-absorbed alpha male. The hero and heroine meet when she decides to impede his escape from her planet by attacking him with a knife. But for some reason he imagines, against all evidence, that she is trying to escape from some cruel master.

The heroine was difficult to relate to, and her motives were a bit befuddling. Given that their culture has supposedly progressed beyond forced marriages, and she obviously loves her family, it's difficult to understand why she deliberately gets herself snatched by space pirates on a whim. A privileged princess, and the overprotected 'baby' of the ruling family, Mei initially gives the impression of a naïve, impulsive youth. She seems innocent enough through the first few chapters, and then all of a sudden the reader is handed the jarring revelation that she is forty-seven years old and has had herself a number of lovers. She then goes on to be more adept and predatorial in the bedroom than even her were-cat captor.

Mystical romantica with a hint of sci-fi. Much like it's preceding book, it could benefit from another round of editing. And though some readers may appreciate the Asain-oriented flavor, the setting descriptions are more bland than engrossing. Excessive recapping of other family member's status makes the dialogue frequently feel forced. And being more sex-driven than anything, it doesn't seem as though the plot comes into play until more than halfway through. Even then, I'm sorry to say its substance seems overall lacking.

This started out with great potential... but then it all went downhill. The heroine was annoying to the T, the plot was very weak, the romance was too superficial, and the hero was almost indistinguishable from the rest of the blob of his crew, with their not-very-funny humor and their shared hobby of going to the Galaxy Playmates' mansion:

The plot almost, almost took an interesting turn towards the end, but then it went nowhere.

What really ANNOYED me was the misinformed usage of Chinese language, especially the language. Readers who aren't familiar with the Chinese language probably will find no issue and could be mildly entertained by the "humorous" foreign phrases thrown back and forth between the characters. But being Chinese myself, any little enjoyment remaining that I could have had with this story, after all the above for why I didn't enjoy this, was killed. Frustration boiling points: all the times I had to reread something just to recognize/understand what was actually being said all because said phrases, in what I'm assuming should be Pinyin, were misspelled and made zero sense being in the dialogue.

Docked 2 whole stars just for all the hair-tearing from rereading the line "Gaxìng jìandào nî" literally over 20+ times before I finally realized the heroine was actually saying "Hên gāoxìng jiàndào nî" (which means "Nice to meet you").

Why was she saying that phrase like some curse or insult anyway? For sarcasm?

Nope. That did not work.

A fun story to listen to or read. Our cat shifter prince is captain of a spaceship containing an intergalactic crew of laid back and pretty cute sounding guys. They have to rescue one of their crew after he's been kidnapped by a woman (naturally). It's well written and entertaining with some action and steamy scenes when our Var prince hero finally meets his soul mate princess.

However, the audio is what made this book come alive for me. Michael Ferraiuolo is a fabulous narrator and does a wonderful husky woman's purr, as well as multiple male and female accents, English, American, European? (Var/Dragon), plus both very convincing deep, medium and high voices to match the accents. Each space 'pirate' has his own identity and I loved listening to this story. The narrator manages switching his characters voices with lightning speed, something not many can achieve. 😍 5 stars for the audio and 4.5 stars overall.

PS:- I look forward to reading/listening to the 5 books written about the crew next. (Space Lords). I'd recommend reading the Lords of the Var books in series order, to fully enjoy the Var world and delve into the various characters. (I did read out of sequence, but each book has a HEA and a different back story, so it didn't really matter too much). There's a catch-up with the other 4 Var brothers and their wives at the end of this one.

Le sigh...

I read an entire series for this one. Admittedly, after the first 4, I was grimly expecting a bunch of misunderstandings. Fortunately, the telepath averted crises by cornering the H and telling him not to muck it up. I laughed at that. The H - not nearly so sheltered and well, naive about how the rest of the universe worked - listened, paid attention, didn't let his ego get the best of him, etc.

The h is from a planet populated by what amounts to a Chinese colony from Old Earth. She's not averse to saying what needs to be said.

They meet because the H and most of the rest of the crew are on her planet to rescue the village idiot as I've come to think of that particular crew member. He tends to think with his hormones and they got him kidnapped. The h sees them grabbing what look like a pair of concubines and makes an attempt to rescue them only to be captured herself.

This was very easy to listen too yet never felt involved with the story. It never felt like I got deep into the plot nor the characters. The romance wasn't that interesting and never felt deep enough to be swoon worthy. Haven't read the others in the series but doubt I will in the future

The Pirate Prince is the last book of the Lords of Var series that center around 5 brothers. Prince Jarek has always felt his place was in the stars so he spends his life traveling around the galaxies learn about different cultures and worlds and sends the information home to his family so they can stay informed. When one of his crew members is kidnapped he goes to the planet Lintian in search of him but he finds Princess Zhang Mei instead. Mei has always had an adventurous spirit. She listens to the wind and fate to make decisions and when she sees Jarek running from palace guards, she attempts to stop him but ends up being kidnapped instead.

Mei and Jarek are a lot of fun. There is a lot of build up introducing Mei, her planet, and some of her family but it helps give the reader a basis to build on. She is very strong willed and stood up to Jarek well even at the beginning of their relationship. Jarek was great. From almost the moment he meets Mei he knows how he feels about her and doesn’t second guess himself like all his brothers have done. There is a great scene with Evan (he has been in a few of the past books as a member of Sam and then Jarek’s crew) who is a little psychic and can sometimes read minds, and Jarek where he basically tells him not to make a mess of his courtship like all his brothers have for his sake. He really is amusing.

This book was a delightful conclusion the Var series as well as being a set up for two other series featuring Jarek’s crew and Mei’s siblings. I look forward to reading them as well. The worlds that Pillow has created with these series set in space is very intriguing and each new book makes me wish space travel existed as she has written it.

Jarek and Mei's Story . . .

I absolutely love this series! Cat-shifter Pirate Prince Jarek is doing whatever he wants until his pilot/friend is missing and assumed dragged away as a hostage. So Jarek and his crew went to save his friend Rick, only to be attacked by a princess. He misunderstood her actions and figured she wanted her freedom, so he accommodated her and took her along with him. He hadn’t meant to kidnap a princess!

Princess Mei had her future foretold. She believes Fate is giving her in marriage to a ruler she doesn’t even like. She will of course do her expected duty, but before that occurs, she wants to have an adventure to remember. So when she sees the alien pirates, she chooses a handsome alpha male to share her final chance for adventure. How will their royal families feel about their “adventure”? And when will they realize they have fallen in love?

Princess Zhang Mei & Prince Jarek

The final book in the Lords of the Var series. Now all of the siblings have found their mates.

Jarek seemed to be the most opposed to mating, but he was actually the easiest to come to terms with his feelings. He was realistically afraid of his reaction to Mei, but it didn't stop him from acting on his feelings.

Mei is my favorite heroine out of the rest in the series. She was smart and cunning when needed.

I also found myself laughing more throughout this book. Jarek definitely met his match when Mei came into the picture.

Rick is kidnapped by a woman who is involved in drug sales/black market dealings on Princess Mei's home planet. When Jarek and his crew to to rescue Rick his life will change forever. Jarek which takes the crew to a distant planet in order to rescue rick from being in the wrong place at the wrong time finds himself in a back scene.... when the crew sneak into the Song family palace they find no Rick but do find a Map to the mind of he famed Purple Jade mines and hope to find Rick there. Upon the retreat of them leaving the palace to make a better rescue plan they find them selves attacked by a small but very dangerous woman named Mei, they do not know she is Princess Mei and when they thing she is trying to escape the place herself they end up in turn kidnapping a woman who is a princess.

All she and Jarek know is when they first meet eyes is something has triggered a bit of interest in both of them, why they do not know but if you know anything of these stories you know FATE Can and does place people in each others paths when lifemates are intentionally or un-intentionally placed in each others path...

Mei has been speaking to her Dead Great Grandmother's spirit, who has fortold that Mei will marry the first Foreign Prince's path she crosses....

She thinks this is Prince Lock. Mei has met with Prince Lok this very night and does not care for him in fact she does not like him nor trust him at all.... she has also Crossed pathes with Prince Jarek but does not know he is a prince and does not know she has CROSSED HIS PATH as her grandmother fortold..... After leaving Lok's palace and being taken onto Jarek's space ship Mei's brother gives chase to rescue his sister but to no aid from the gods or winds of the family ancestor. Mei has always had a wish to travel the stars and calls truce until she has to return to her palcace, during the chase given by her brother the space ship Jarek pilots is damaged very bad and they have gotten aways but now float in space...dead float if anyone comes along they are dead meat as well..... during this time every body is doing their part to fix all they can since the only thing they do have running is life suport system.. Each person works along to fix the ship, while this happends Mei and Jarek work along and create very heated relationship, mei does not know Jarek is a prince. Jarek also reveals a map which they stole from Songs palace which reveals the mines and Mei's family palace that nobody should have access to except those who are royal family so when Jarek shows this map to to her she is very interested and worried why lok would have this map... Jarek has also told her his crewmate was kidnapped and that he suspects Lok's family is trading/dealing in drugs in her family's Jade mines... so Mei and Jarek will work together to retreive Rick and find out what is going on with this drug trade..

During all this Mei is falling in love and Jarek has lifemated himself to Mei and not told her. she has no intention of leaving her family nor does her family have any intention letting her marry anyone but Lock...

Mei still plans to marry Lock due to fate and the peach on her planet between the two families... but Jarek is telling himself he will kidnap her if needed to take his life mate back home... he will have her not matter what, if she likes it or not...

What will happen?? Happiness may not be in the cards for these two. As you know Lifemated Var are doomed to lead a life of unhappiness when the mate they have does not love them back or is not with them...

A sad case...

NO MORE SPOILERS...
read for yourself......

Nice hot sex and a good storyline...

I do say GREAT 'DEAD' GRANDMOTHER really does know her fates and winds... read on and you will understand....the hand they have been delt with.. Some times we need to learn to listen to our elders instead of just hearing them...

I liked this final book in the Var series. I think Prince Jarek may be my favorite prince of all! I really liked his carefree and easy going attitude, and I liked that he wanted Mei as his mate and didn’t fight it as hard as his brothers.
Mei is visited by the spirit of her great-grandmother who tells her that she is going to have a baby. This surprises Mei very much! The spirit clarifies that the baby will be here within a year and the next foreigner she crosses paths with will be the baby’s father. Unfortunately for Mei, her father overhears and is overjoyed because she was planning on visiting another kingdom with her brother. Mei and her father believe that it will be her fate to marry Lok and Mei isn’t looking forward to it.
Jarek goes to Lintian to save a member of his crew, Rick, who was kidnapped by a woman. When he sees Mei he is stunned. He knows instantly that he wants her and believes her to be trapped in a bad situation. When Mei and Jarek meets he believes that she wants to go with him and he has Dev snatch her up and carry her on the ship.
Will Jarek realize that he can mate to only one woman and will he want Mei as his mate? Will Mei accept fate or will she fight to marry Lok even though she truly doesn’t want to?
This book had some steamy love scenes that were classic Michelle M. Pillow. I have really liked all of the books in this and the Dragon Lords series. There is still the great interaction between the crew members and the main characters and I loved reading their banter. I think Evan may be my favorite and I would love to read a story about him.

Book 5 The last Cat Prince is Lifemated

The entire series was a delight and this last book takes Prince Jarek to a very Asian planet where he meets the Princess Mei. Of course he doesn't tell her that he is a Prince, and she is concealing her Princess-hood. The plot revolves around rescuing Rick, one of Jarek's crew, who was abducted by drug runners. This spurs the action. Excellent with tender moments, prophecy, ghosts, fights and scary encounters with families. I think this book is my favorite of a very enjoyable Sci-fi Romance Series. I am looking forward to reading the Dragon series, the new Cursed Crew Series, and the Princess Mei's Family series.

Princes Mei has always wanted to see what was beyond the palace walls and the planet. But as the youngest princess of the Mutong Empire, she has never been allowed any freedom. When her dead great grandmother predicts that she will marry the first foreign man of royal blood whose path she crossed and that she would be pregnant with his child soon, she automatically assumes it is Prince Lok, from their neighboring kingdom, the Singhai Empire. She is scheduled to attend dinner at their palace with her brother that night. She can’t stand Lok on sight and prays that her great grandmother’s prediction is wrong. When she and her brother leave to go home, there is a disturbance at the palace gates where they have just left. Two women are fleeing and being taken onto a spaceship. Mei assumes that they are kidnapping the women and goes to fight, despite her brothers orders to stay on the ship. She crashed into one of the men who picks her up and jumps on the ship just as they take off. Well, she wanted space travel, but this wasn’t exactly how she was expecting it to happen.

Jarek, Var Prince of Qurilixen, has landed on the planet Lintian to rescue their pilot Rick, who was taken prisoner by intergalactic drug traders. Supposedly he is being held in the purple jade mines on the planet. Two of his crew sneak into the palace disguised as women to try and find a map telling them where the mines are. Once they find the map, they try to leave but are seen and must make a hasty exit! When a ball of furious female crashes into him, he assumes she is trying to excape the man she was following. Jarek assumed she was his concubine. But being the gentlemen he is he can’t leave her behind when she succeeded in escaping her master! Boy was he wrong!

What follows is hilarious and touching. Jarek and Mei dance around each other, neither one telling the truth, until Mei sees the map they stole from the Singhai. They don’t know what they have, but she does, and it isn’t good for her people.

A delightful book and the last Var Prince to meet his fated mate! Don’t miss it!

THE LAST ONE WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTING. COMPELLING CHARACTERS OFTEN MAKE UP A GOOD CHEMISTRY DESPITE A BAD PLOT, BECAUSE THEY ARE WHAT WE FOCUS ON FIRST. WHILE JAREK WAS INTERESTING AND OUR HEROINE IS AN EXOTIC CHINESE, THERE WAS JUST SOMETHING MISSING.

OUR HERO is the final brother of the Var Princes and he's content with being the last single prince. That is until he and his motley crew is off to rescue their mate, Rick who is somehow missing after going off for a little sexcapade. Arriving at another world surrounded by Chinese ancestry, his eyes fell upon the most beautiful exotic looking woman he has ever seen and he wants her. When Mei flings herself at him attempting to fight, Jarek kidnaps her and some of the other women, thus beginning their little adventure, although it was mostly filled with plotting and sex. There wasn't anything compelling within the story, the characters were just there...the plot was bland and sadly it was lacking almost everything....the angst, the fucking-A sexual tension and gooey romance. Don't get me wrong, it's THERE but it just doesn't make your heart go pitter patter.

OUR HEROINE is the youngest Princess in the family and is foretold by the ghost of her grandmother that she will be pregnant with a Prince's child in 8 months. In denial because she believes that she will be wedded off to a neighboring Prince. When a chance presents itself, she willingly gets kidnapped by Jarek and his crew, while somehow trying to free herself. Attraction is instant and it's not soon before they heat up the sheets but now Mei is torn between duty and love.

OVERALL I skimmed through most because it was predictable, I couldn't be bothered to linger too long on a stale plot and just so-so characters.

4.5 stars - wonderfully romantic - I'm addicted & don't want series to end

POV: dual
HUMOR: yes!
F BOMBS: no
STANDALONE: yes
NEW AUTHOR FOR ME: no
POSSIBLE TRIGGERS: mentions drugs, dead ancestor's spirit

CHARACTERS: Princess Mei and Prince Jarek

OVERALL: highly recommend - will continue to read author's other works & hope you will too

PROS:
1. Asian FMC skilled in martial arts, very cool!
2. FMC and MMC had supportive, loving families
3. The steamy sexy times were hot, hot, HOT
4. Funny! Had a few spit takes. Keep towels nearby - your walls, children, and pets will thank you.

CONS:
1. Continually called her "fea" as a Var term of endearment, but in Spanish it means ugly.
2. One inconsistency
3. The romance was so fabulous, I'm addicted

NOTEWORTHY:
1. Their obvious desire for each other gave their relationship a genuine quality to it.
2. The last chapter when the Var family all gets together - such a sweet scene to end this series.
3. Melt-my-heart quotes:
-"I don't want to go, Mei. I want to be with you forever. I will be your servant just to be near you..."
-"You would give up space for me? she sniffed. "I would give up eternity for you, my love..."

RECOMMEND reading books in order to get the full taste of the entire world, characters, and experiences in this series. Worth it!

This book centers on Jarek, the last bachelor of the five Var princes. Jarek and his crew of space 'pirates' are on a rescue mission to rescue Rick, one of the crew members. Rick has been kidnapped, and they have reason to believe he's being held captive in a Lintian jade mine by drug dealers and they fear for his life. While searching for the location of the mines, the crew crosses paths with a beautiful, petite woman who captures Jarek's full attention.

The woman is Princess Zhang Mei, youngest daughter of Emperor Zhang. She has been given a prophecy by the spirit of her great-grandmother, Zhang An. Because of this prophecy, she believes she is fated to marry Prince Lok, of the Song Dynasty, for political reasons.. Mei is not meek or mild and wants adventure, but knows her duty to her family and her people and is resigning herself to her fate. After visiting Prince Lok she gets an opportunity to quench her thirst for adventure and jumps at the chance, without thinking it through. What follows is the story of the growing attraction between her and the pirate prince, woven in with the fear of retaliation by Mei's family and the tense rescue plans to save Rick. I won't say more for fear of spoiling the story, but if you like steamy fantasy with adventure, humor, and engaging characters, with a sweet 'ahhh' moment at the end, than take a look at this book!

Somewhat disappointing conclusion of the series, especially since most of it had nothing to with Qurilixen or the Var.
Wasn't a fan of Mei either. A bit too full of herself, entitled and judgmental. Too many lies and secrets. Wanting to have it both ways. And she wouldn't even consider him until after he revealed who he was. Big no-no!
While I quite liked what we saw of Jarek in the previous two books, liked that he wasn't as averse to the old Var ways as his brothers... I didn't like how he turned into a brainless, babbling idiot around her. Didn't like it with the girls, don't like it with him either...

While there were definitely some things I liked better in Lords of the Var compared to the Dragon Lords I missed having a common thread, a story that wove and connected throughout the various individual books. Here we only had that in books 1+ 2 and it felt like some of that was still unresolved. Like what became of Myrddin's son, etc. It was like most of the storyline was just completely dropped in favor of introducing the players for various spin-offs...
It's weird, I remember I liked the Daig ladies better and was often annoyed with their princes and lords, whereas here it was the opposite more often than not.

This was another simply splendid, entertaining read I thoroughly enjoyed

Every one of the Var series have been a simply wonderful read and I have thoroughly enjoyed them and this was just as entertaining. The Pirate Prince was the final book in the Var bothers series and was a very appropriate way of wrapping up the series.

Jarek and his crew are looking for their lost pilot and they have to visit a planet where he is being held prisoner, the Princess of this planet is Mei and she is promised to marry and produce an ayre for the Royal selected for her.

Jarek and his crew pick up the Princess Mei and her brother and all hell breaks loose, she leaps into the arms of Jarek and the realise that they are well suited and her expectations begin to change regarding love and loyalty.

Read this amazing story and you will most definitely have read a simply wonderful book and series of books.

I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

Mei has been given a glimpse of her future and it is not to her liking. She is most definitely not happy with the details she has been given. Most especially when she believes that it will be with Song Lok, the prince of the neighbouring kingdom that her family would like her to forge a connection with. Thing is though seers like to give you the bare bones of things, they don't give you all the information which leads things open to interpretation meaning you still end you where you are meant to be just not necessarily how you saw it. That is completely what happens to Mei. She sees Jarek and his crew in a compromising situation and doesn't quite get the right end of the stick. She steps in and ends up with Jarek on his ship. And so begins the dance between them! Jarek is very loyal and doesn't give up on those he cares for, case in point his pilot who was drugged and who he was trying to help escape when Mei came upon them. He made a split second decision which means he is now stuck with the woman and he is not sure if he should throw her overboard or kiss her. Their banter is great and you really get a feel for the characters. They are so engaging!

This author is actually one of my favorite authors. I have found myself recently devouring every book from her that I can get. This is her Lords of the Var series. This is a side world that’s in her Qurilixen World. The lords of the Var are shifters, cat shifters. Most of them do tend to be very arrogant but when they meet their mate everything changes. This is the story of Prince Jarek Who spends most of his time being a space pirate, yes think guardians of the galaxy if you need to. The female lead is Princess Mei. She has recently learned that she was going to be forced into a marriage she wanted. She doesn’t want to disgrace her family so she is willing to go along with their plans but not until she has one last adventure before she stuck in a life that she will hate. Cat shifters don’t believe in love. But when he accidentally kidnapped her he finds that he has a bit more off than he can chew. Sparks fly because she has already decided that she wants him to be her last little adventure. The problem is can he give her up? I may have had some problems with the female lead at first but she grew on me as I read the story.

Jarek & Mei

One of his crew got himself captured and they never leave a man (or woman) behind. During their first rescue attempt they "rescue" a lovely woman who didn't want to be rescued. Finding out too late who she is and what she was doing, along with a damaged ship, she's going with them for now at least.

He watched his brothers all swear they'd never take just one woman forever, he'd never fall as they did--but man is she tempting. She's a tiny, gorgeous, bundle of bravery, sass, and he can't resist her. The crew adores her. How's he supposed to fight that?

She's never wanted a man so much. Yet, fate has set her life path. Maybe just a little free time first. They don't really need to know everything.

When both of them find resistance is futile, the crew is all for her, and his seer sees a different path the battle is even harder. Add a cup of intrigue and family danger, oh yeah, and the crew member they have yet to rescue, it's the preverbal page-turner. You'll love all the characters and an ending that will make you smile maybe even laugh meeting some old or maybe new friends.

This book was quite the adventure. Mei is convinced her ancestors’ foretelling of her fate means her future will be marrying Prince Soon, and when she sees the chance to have one last adventure with the handsome space pirate she acts.

Prince Jarek is immediately attracted to the diminutive woman he mistakenly thinks is a nobleman’s concubine. When she flings herself at him during a skirmish at the docks, he tosses her to one of his crew to carry over his shoulder onto his spaceship. The woman is feisty and secretive about who and what she is. He assigns her to be there ship’s cook.

These two characters have a passionate connection and their hearts are quickly involved. Jarek keeps his identity as a Prince a secret from MEI until he tries to convince her to stay with him.

The adventure takes a few unexpected turns as Jarek, Mei and his crew seek to rescue fellow crew member Rick from drug runners.

I enjoyed this book and the ending was fantastic.

Jarek and Mei have a great story. Having your future foretold is not as great as it sounds, especially in Mei's case. Jarek is trying to save his smart mouthed pilot when he crosses paths with Mei. Once Mei is safely on the Conqueror, the story really starts to develop.

With space fights, diner fights, and dock fights, this story have plenty of action. it also has plenty of heart. Mei is willing to do what is best for her people even though it is not what she really wants. Jarek and crew will do anything to find their missing pilot or avenge him. Loved the they got back to Lintian and their interactions with the Zhang royal family including An (I love how seers never give a straight answer).

This story has one great epilogue. Payton is awesome and deserves to have her own book (along with her twin cousins). I would definitely recommend reading this series.

This delightful story is about our Pirate Prince Jarek, cat-shifter, and the Zhang Princess Mei was a very enjoyable space romp romance to read, and I volunteer to review via Booksprout. Loved that the characters from Sam's ship along with our romantic couple in this engaging story of Prince Jarek finding his mate in this series. Our playboy Rick, pilot of the Conqueror and friend goes missing after being seen with a group of women. Jarek goes to search and rescue his friend who he finds was taken by drug traders. On the rescue mission, Princess Mei who's been told by her Great-Grandmother she will be married and have a child in eight months sees the Conqueror crew fleeing and tries to stop them. Jarek takes Mei with them. This enjoyable story is another page turner in this wonderful series.

I think this is one of my favorite stories out of the Var Princes by Ms. Pillow. It was definitely different because 'Jarek' was the only prince to actually tell Mei how he felt and try to get her to be with him, while all the other brothers tried to fight their feelings for their mate the whole time. Mei was actually the one to deny Jarek even though she did love him. The story was interesting and esciting and drew me in from the very start. It was steamy and I really liked the characters even though we had already met a lot of them before in previous 'Var' stories. I cannot wait to read the stories about Jarek's crew and what happens with their love lives as soon as i get the chance.!

This felt like the author slapped together a lot of movie plot lines & stereotypes, added an occasional comment about love & called it a day. I also thought both main characters were kind of snotty. Mei is a princess of the Zhang empire, which is China-like, replete with her impressive secret skill in martial arts. Jared is a "pirate" only in that he captains a ragtag crew of a rundown ship, while secretly being a prince. A few love scenes that felt more like pornos and plot devices that felt like reruns rounded out the book. It was otherwise decently written, with no significant editing issues.

Having four other siblings find their mate before him may have softened him a bit, but Jarek didn’t put up much fight against Mai’s charms. The storytelling is great drawing us onto The Conqueror as if we could really be in this world. The romance is heartfelt, their chemistry electrifying, the witty banter endearing them to us that much more. I loved these characters their adventure was fun and thrilling, this story was an absolute blast.

Like they say, all good things must come to an end & here it is for The Var series. However Michelle M Pillow has done it justice. I will not be giving anything away due to the book being the series ending.
This is Jarek's story about his leaving the bachelor ranks to Mei. It has everything but the kitchen sink. *wink* There is a kidnapping, a ghost with a doozie of a prophesy, action, adventure, drama, very sexy scenes and naturally, hard-core love.
This & ALL the Var series books are thoroughly recommended. Michelle M Pillow is a master at her craft and you won't be disappointed

A great final story to the Lords of the Var series where Jarek finds his own Princess in Mei. Their story takes them on a journey which all starts with a prophecy by her great grandmother’s spirit of a baby and a husband for Mei, but the details are vague and Mei believes her fate is with a different man and she’s determined to fulfill her duty to her family and people even if doing so breaks her heart and the heart of the man she loves.
