Wildly flamboyant and proudly eccentric, Keeton Taylor’s colorful personality has driven away more than a few men. Unwilling to change just to keep a boyfriend, he knows the right guy for him is out there somewhere. When he meets Logan, he’s pretty sure he’s found Mr. Right. He’s just not sold on the whole fate thing.
After all, forever is a huge commitment.
Logan Cartwright had almost given up on the idea of ever finding his mate when Keeton blows into his life like a wild storm. Everything about the spitfire, from his painted nails to his scathing wit draws him in, but his immediate attraction is more than just pheromones. It’s love at first sight, and his plan to woo the human is simple—make Keeton his and never let him go.
He should have known it wouldn’t be that easy.
Enter an Arsidian demon in her mating heat who is hell-bent on having Logan as her own and eradicating the competition. With the clock ticking, Logan has until the next full moon to eliminate the threat to his new mate or risk losing his angel forever.
Gabrielle Evans grew up in a small town in southern Oklahoma. We’re talking one red light that may or may not work depending on the day of the week. She married her high school sweetheart and the rest is pretty much history. They have two very active boys and one high-strung wiener dog that keeps her constantly on the go. For now, Gabrielle parks her car in north-central Texas, but who knows what tomorrow will bring.
By the Light of the Moon make me breathless and I actually like this book. This book is sexy, steamy and burning me alive.I also love Logan althrough he came with his ex-girlfriend's issue as book one that Braxton did with his ex-boyfriend. Logan has the ability to set everything on fire.He can make readers melt with his speech and seduction,in other words,he surprised me with his dominance to control his mate that quivering my heart again and again.
After two books,I need to say these books are beyond my expectation. And I want more...
TLDR = Keeton is a CWD, Mariah is TSTL, Logan is a meathead.
I picked this book because several of my friends high-starred it. I did not like it, but I'm definitely the minority view here, so don't let my review put you off.
I have two main problems with the book.
1. The plot is woeful and undercooked.
2. It is sterotypically heteronormative while pretending to be m/m
So shifter Logan and human Keeton discover they are destined mates, which is a problem because Logan is dating a chick, Mariah
Keeton knows she's bad news because her aura is a sucking void. After Keeton sees Mariah off, she vows revenge, shortly after which he is attacked in the woods, and left for dead with claw marks down his chest. Keeton calls his cousin Blaise to share all this, and also because he's very worried he hasn't been able to contact his parents.
“Keeton, I want you to stay where you are. Do not leave the house for any reason. I’ll be there as soon as I can, which will probably be about three days.” Blaise spoke quickly, tense and worried.
“Why? What the hell is going on?”
“Just don’t leave the house! Promise me!” Blaise yelled.
THREE WEEKS LATER, after two chapters of much sexin' and some ballsack waxin', Keeton starts to wonder where Blaise is.
O.o
The whole book is like this. There's an attempt to bring in tension, but then nothing happens and it all just disappates. The final denoument is underwhelming to say the least. .
Plus, Mariah : why is she so dumb? In the conclusion Logan tells Mariah he wants her back (in order to suprise her with the shifter pack). Mariah is justifiably skittish, and says she thinks it's an ambush (duh, yeah!). So Logan tells her he loves her.
“You love me?” Mariah gasped. “Okay, I will meet you.”
Uggh.
But the main thing that annoyed me was the binary-based relationship between Keeton and Logan.
Logan likes girls.
"Logan hadn’t been with many men, preferring the soft, petite build of a woman".
Luckily Keeton is pretty much a stereotypical woman:
"Warm, kind, and sexy, his body soft and yielding, his skin pale and supple, the man personified sex”
Sure, personified sex, as long as your idea of sex means male/stern/hard/penetrating/dark/rigid versus female/kind/soft/yielding/pale/supple.
Keeton is "Kind of high maintenance." He calls himself "overemotional, and too sensitive for my own good": "I don’t really like your slasher movies . . . and I hate all those things guys are supposed to love, like sports, fishing, camping and beer . . . I like to wear makeup and paint my nails”. Keeton doesn’t eat, he nibbles. Logan loves him because he’s just "so fragile".
That term, "overemotional": grrr. It says that some emotion is fine, a resonable level, but that an excess of emotion is unacceptable. So it not only reinforces a gender binary, but also a cultural binary. But, the thing is, none of this is seen in Keeton. At no point does he behave in a particularly emotional or sensitive manner. Listing attributes does not a character build.
Unbelievably, after setting up the final showdown with the big bad Mariah, Keeton wants to go shopping!
“We seem to be fairly safe for the time being . . . “ He bit his lip and wrinkled his nose, looking too adorable for words. “Can we go out?” Keeton blurted. “I need to get my hair done and go shopping.” He held his hand up, inspecting his fingers. “And my nail beds are gross right now. My eyebrows are in desperate need of waxing, and there is not a thing in this house for me to eat. Maybe we could go to dinner and see a movie if we have time?”
Logan laughed . . . “Well, we can’t have you walking around in old clothes, untreated hair, and misshapen brows.” He patted Keeton’s hip and rolled off him. “Get dressed baby.”
(btw, Keeton also gets Logan highlights, so when he shows up for the Mariah showdown he looks faaaabulous!)
There's a constant reinforcement of the size disparity between shifters (Tops) and humans (bottoms): a different shifter tells his mate, “I’m more than twice your size in this form alone”.
When Keeton hugs Logan and it's written as tiny arms wrapped around his waist I do not find that sexy. I find that unnerving, and I think of Shaquille O'Neill and Nikki Alexander.
The size difference means that when Keeton and Logan have sex for the first time, Logan thinks,
By the time he finished feeding his cock to Keeton's ass, he would probably puncture a kidney.
Now, bonus points for one of the best lines in the book, but ew! This whole good-sex-means-one-partner-needs-stitches-and-conselling thing is out of control, people.
Mariah stands for all the bad women, because she doesn’t like kids (she ate an orphanage-full of children, so also, overeater!), she's trying to have Logan's babies against his will and live off the welfare, oop, sorry, souls, and she’s a slut. Logan tells her he’s going to bend her over a rock and have all his brothers fuck her, and she’s up for it.
Keeton is the good woman, because he was a virgin until he met his OTL Logan. Logan loves Keeton because he's a sweet, perfect, pure angel.
Gender binaries. Evil woman vs. good woman. Tropes everywhere you look.
Blargh.
***
Also, were you wondering about the missing parents? (no, me neither). It turns out they were never in danger at all; Keeton couldn't contact them because they're staying with a bunch of Komodo dragon shifters :/
Also, going to share with you my favourite shopped version of that Shaq and Nikki photo, although Shaq is still bigger in this than Nikki is in the real one:
Yes! By the Light of the Moon, the second book in the Moonlight Breed series, is just as strong as the first and continues along a solid storyline. Danielle brings more fabulous characters into focus, revisiting previous characters and introducing a few new ones in this m/m shifter love story that bursts with love, humor and a smidge of suspense.
It’s love at first sight when Logan and Keeton meet at a party. Unfortunately Logan has his girlfriend Mariah on his arm and is forced to control his instant attraction to Keeton. As a Moonlight Breed shifter, Logan has spent years searching for his mate and scents Keeton as his long-awaited mate. Certain Mariah isn’t the one for him even before meeting Keeton and now compelled to claim Keeton, Logan breaks up with her that same night. Unfortunately she doesn’t just go away and the suspense around her character keep readers flipping pages. As we uncover her story, we begin to uncover more of their preternatural world which is pieced together simply enough throughout the story to flow very naturally.
By the Light of the Moon is a great book. At one point in the book, Keeton says he’d crawl inside [Logan’s] skin if he could. That’s how I felt about this book – I just wanted to crawl inside it and live with this fabulous, funny and loving family.
2.5 because this is the second try and the conflict should have been better executed I always come from reading Gabrielle Evans books thinking that the conflict and it's resolution are soft. Did she paint herself into a corner....in the literary sense? The climax is somewhat silly and not very believable. Did anyone else wonder about the sedative?
Everything (minus any scenes where there was conflict) was okay until the end. The concept was sound, but again the resolution was a bit silly.
Do you know what I forget in between reading these "little red" books? ALL THE DANG SEX... 🤦♀️🤣
Let's be honest, there is a time and a place for this much sex... maybe? But, I will admit that it distracts from the story and add in an idiot female character, which I rarely tolerate on a good day, and the star rating for me drops VERY quickly!
It helps when I can relate to the MCs, which wasn't exactly the case with this one, but I didn't hate it either, so I am going to call it a good read!
*3-3.5 stars* I enjoyed this second book in the series. Keeton and Logan are a sweet couple and the ex-girlfriend was truly terrifying. The plot was unique and held my attention and I really liked getting to know the other characters in the "family" as well. I look forward to more in the series.
I love there story. They find they are mate pat a party and want to get together, when a hint of stalking thrown in. If the stalker who just let it go, they wouldn’t have a lot of problems.
I liked the characters that were trying to be made here but I am dissatisfied with how the action played out and I just didn't want to finish it because I was getting bored.
The second book in the Moonlight Breed series features Keeton, Braxton’s best friend, and Logan, a snow leopard shifter. Keeton and Logan meet at Xander’s surprise birthday party and from the first moment Logan sets eyes on him he knows he’s finally met his mate. There is a problem however, Logan has a girlfriend who he has taken with him to the party. Needless to say, she isn’t very happy about being broken up with and is willing to do anything to keep him.
There were times in this book where everything got out of hand and everyone was (this might sound rather harsh) ridiculous. The drama at the beginning of the book was seriously overdone. This is the 21st century and marriage is not indispensable for raising children between two people. I found it incredible that Logan was willing to throw away the mate he had been waiting his whole life for because he thought Mariah was pregnant. And the way that everybody’s feelings were all over the place was just… I sat there speechless. Logan went from wanting his mate to being a second away from telling Mariah he now belonged to her and Keeton went from being calm to screaming like a maniac. Thank God for Braxton, he saved the day by using common sense. I swear that scene nearly ruined the entire book for me. And then when Logan completely fell apart when Keeton needed time… it just didn’t make any sense. He had just been about to give him up, so unfortunately I didn’t feel sorry for him at all.
I have to say that I have a lot more respect for shifters who try to have a relationship when they haven’t found their mate instead of using the excuse of being mateless to have sex with anything remotely humanoid in form. That’s something I appreciate in Gabrielle Evan’s books. I also respected Keaton for not throwing himself at Logan knowing he had a girlfriend at the time. Surprisingly, it’s hard to come across characters who are willing to do that when it comes to the romance genre.
I liked both main characters; Logan seemed like two completely different people at times which I enjoyed. He was so dominant and sexy in the bedroom and yet so adorable outside of it. Keeton was also an interesting character. He was spunky and sweet. Also, while there was a bit of D/s in bed, it never made it out of it.
One other thing that bothered me was that at one point Keeton and Logan talk about how Keeton’s image is that of a slut, even to Braxton, his best friend. I was astounded to find out that Keeton considered he wasn’t because he had only had intercourse with Logan, yet he had jacked and sucked off a lot of other men (his words, not mine) before that. I’m not judging whether that made him a slut or not, but that does count as sex and I was surprised to hear otherwise.

Even though Keeton wasn't as flamboyant here as he was in book 1 (I missed his tiara and Superman thong), he's still one of my favorite characters in this series. With Logan's love and support I was glad Keeton could still feel free to be himself with his makeup, nail polish and sexy clothes. And Keeton was also willing to hand over the control Logan needed and craved in the bedroom so their relationship clearly made them both happy campers. Their drama queen/caveman personalities were also balanced by the tender emotions and protectiveness they felt for each other. They were sweet and I thought they made a great couple. I liked how Mariah's character added suspense to the story. With her ability to take any form, there were a few times when I wondered if the couples were really having sex with their mates. But I couldn't understand how in the beginning Logan would even consider trading his once in a lifetime mate in order to support a child with Mariah. Why would he need to give up his mate to be a parent? At least common sense prevailed thanks to Braxton. I'm really looking forward to reading about Jackson and Talon next.
Keeton Taylor and Logan Cartwright are mates. Simple right? Mates equals happily every after, wedding bells, white picket fence and all that good stuff. Which would mostly be true, sort of, ok, minus the picket fence, except that Logan's crazy ex-girlfriend, Mariah Bernini, is a wee bit more insane than the normal exes tend to be; in that she's a soulless demon who sucks the souls out of her victims and Logan and his brothers are on her buffet-a-la-soul menu. The only thing standing between her and Logan is Keeton. Thus, Keeton lands himself smack dab at the top of the soul-sucking-demon-bitch's shit list. Not the safest place in the world to be. So, all Logan and Keeton need to do is mate, trap pyscho demon lady so she can't suck any of their souls and snag themselves a happily-ever-after.
I really enjoyed this second book in Gabrielle Evan's Moonlight Breeds series. Keeton wasn't as flamboyant and carefree in this story as he was portrayed in the first book, but he was still a charismatic character and my favorite in this series.

I enjoyed the continuation of this series but I liked the first book more. After the great story in the first novel, I was really expecting more of the same here but, sadly, the author went back to the easy shifter insta-love without a great deal of conflict with this one. It was nice seeing the continuation of the story and I also liked the additional paranormal elements, especially since they open up more options for later books in the series, but I really wanted more story and less sex. There was sex in the first book in the series but it also had a really good plot that held its own. There are also some BDSM elements in this but they are mild and even if you don't like that kind of thing I don't think it will negatively affect you. I liked it and will continue reading the series but I still wish there had been more substance to this one.
I'm loving this author. I love Keeton and even get why she took him back a notch. What kept this from four stars was the plot. It was stuck. You knew what the problem was and somebody got hurt. You knew what the problem was and somebody got hurt. You knew what the problem was and somebody got hurt. See that repeat, yeah, the book was like that. You hung in there because you loved the character relationships in the book but the repeat made take a break and stare into a light buld so that I might hopefully forget the plot. Instead I come back to the plot at a bad slasher movie point. I wanted to scream at the bimbo for go down into the basement. I can not wrape my brain around the fact that she made Keeton that stupid.

This was a solid second book in the series. Keeton is back as a main character and ends up paired with Logan.
Keeton is very outgoing, flamboyant and says what he thinks. Logan falls for him, but unfortunately he has a girlfriend who keeps interfering. By the time he finally manages to stand up to her and finds out who she really is, a lot of damage has been done. Not to mention that the way they decide to get rid of her tested not just the main characters, but my patience as well.
I liked the suspense of Keeton and Logan solving the "girlfriend problem" and the way they interacted with each other was hot. I am curious about the next volume.
typical gabrielle evans serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical gabrielle evans? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).
out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all books by : sunny day lynn hagen stormy glenn scarlett hyacinth carol lynne gabrielle evans
unless otherwise noted. i'd apologize, but i'm not sorry. i figure it's about as much time as they put into their books. dammit! well, i made it all the way to the end being rather moderate in my assessment. that's a win.
I had high hopes because I loved Keeton in the first one but this book did not deliver. Keeton wasnt what I expected. I usually LOVE flamboyant twinks their fun and witty and capricious but he was just immature with the name calling and punching. There were so many inconsistencies in the story which could have easily been fixed with proper editing not to mention that lame as explanation at the end that explained why Keeton and Braxton didnt go insane. The theory was literally them just saying 'Just Cuz' OKAAAY? It didnt make sense. It was way too convenient. This will be the last book unfortunately but I'll try her other series.......maybe
Woo Hoo! I knew Keeton's story was going to be awesome and I was right! The world that Gabrielle Evans has created is far more than I expected it to be and in no way does it drag or drop my interest. Keeton and Logan are insanely hot, but oh so sweet together. Their love story s very romantic and sexy. I love Keeton with his eyeliner, nail polish, waxed eyebrows, etc. and Logan is so sexy but yet very vulnerable emotionally. They are really great to watch together and the story/plot is a really good one. I'm still excited to read more of them!
Half way through the book and I got extremely bored. Too much sex, not enough plot. I just lost interest and skimmed the last 60 pages. The beginning started so well but it soon lost its appeal. I found there was a time line issue in regards to the story overall flow. I think this book could have been better if some editing was done and with about 50 pages worth of writing could have been taken out which would have made this story feel more streamline and relatable.
I loved Keeton and Logan in this. Keeton and Braxton's antics are hilarious in this. I found myself laughing out loud a lot and I love books that can do that. Keeton wasn't just some weak sounding guy. He had his strengths and made sure that Logan knew about them. Logan was a good pairing for him.
lovable characters, good story, half a step above fluff.
The writing is of better editorial quality than Joyee, but the style is similar. No real peripheral character development and no subplot. The story was solid and well written and the dialogue was well done.
I will read this whole series, no matter how far it goes, it's good fun.
Another good book in the Moonlight Breed series. Keeton was so outrageous. Logan loves him. It's so good to see a love that gives each of the people envolved what they need. Keeton brought juoy and purpose for Logan. Logan gave Keeton some "grounding". I think most important was that each gave the other the acceptance and love of another both were sorely in need of:)
Keeton has long been one of my favorite characters in this series. And this is where his story begins. I love his and Logan's story. It's fun and sweet and so, so hot. It's great from beginning to end.
The characters (all of them) are amazing, the story is exciting, and this world continues to grow and hold my interest. I love it all.
I really liked Keeton as a character and was looking forward to his story and learning abt him. The book seemed slightly longer than was necessary. Some aspects were over explored where other more interesting ones were barely glossed over. I suppose that would depend on what is interesting to you add a reader but this is just my opinion.
The ex-girlfriend waiting patiently till the last moment to execute her plan of attack? Why wouldn't she make a try daily for the almost week she was still in heat? She barely made any effort at all...and then just fell for the trap on the last day. Sound off.
But, I did like the characters, and for most of the book it was quite enjoyable.
I'm just giving up. Honestly, the same thing - with slight variations - has happened for like the fifth time and I'm just over it. The characters are all likeable enough, but there has been zero development for any of them, and no reason (other than insta-love mating) for the mains to be together.
I'm only giving this the second star because I don't despise it.
Fun read, I really liked Keeton and Logan, and it was nice to see all the previous characters back as well. I liked this more than the first book and thought the plot was well done and interesting. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!
