About the author

Per Håkan Stefan Nilsson (living in Sölvesborg, Sweden since 1981) worked as a music teacher before becoming a full time author in 1999, but his debut was in 1986 with Mellan vakna och somna. He has written over 30 novels, novellas, and children's books, and his works have been translated to over 20 languages.

He also wrote the film script for A Different Way which was based on his novel Ett annat sätt att vara ung; furthermore, a Swedish TV series was based on his most known work Heart's Delight. Between 1997 and 2010 he was a member of the Swedish Academy for Children's Books. He is still writing to this day.

On Rabén & Sjögren's page for Per Nilsson, he writes this about himself:

"I think I became a writer because I am a dad. I started writing to my own kids to tell them about myself as a young boy, and told them, amongst other things, about a 11 or 12 year old who wandered around in Malmö, head filled with daydreams and fantasies, crashing into the hard reality in the form of street lights again and again. That was me. I put the scenes from my memories together to a story and sent it to a competition, wich became my first book."

This book was soo strange... all the sentences and no reading signs... but i guess thats what actually was the interesting part of the book. the rest of the book was kinda boring... nothing really happened... 2 stars

Het laatste boek uit mijn tas van Lemniscaat van vorig jaar september. In mijn poging in een rap tempo mijn to-readlijst wat te verkleinen, stuitte ik op dit boek en het moest er natuurlijk eens van komen! Ik had dit boek tot nu toe laten liggen, aangezien ik niemand kende die dit boek gelezen had en de kaft niet echt uitnodigend is. De andere boeken van Lemniscaat zijn me echt reuze meegevallen en van sommige heb ik zelfs echt genoten, maar dit boek was toch van een andere categorie.

15 gaat over Jonatan. In het boek vind je 3 soorten lettertype, 1 voor zijn gedachten tegenover de gene waaraan hij schrijft, 1 voor een soort dagboekfragmenten over bepaalde gebeurtenissen en 1 voor zijn fantasiewereld. In 15 verteld Jonatan zijn verhaal aan een vriendin. Hij vertelt hoe 3 weken zijn leven hebben veranderd toen hij 15 was.

Dit klinkt op zich veelbelovend, maar de dingen die hij meemaakt zijn eigenlijk niet interessant. Jonatan is een nogal vreemde jongen die veel fantaseert en die niet goed in de groep ligt. Hij wordt dan ook met een zekere regelmaat gepest. Om aan deze pesterijen te ontsnappen bedenkt hij voor zichzelf een fantasiewereld. Deze fantasiewereld vond ik echt niet interessant en had ik het liefste geskipt, maar dat kan ik niet over mijn hart verkrijgen. De soort dagboekfragmenten zijn verwarrend, omdat dit geschreven wordt zonder leestekens, hoofdletters of duidelijk samenhangende zinnen. Wel vond ik zijn gedachten aan zijn vriendin prettig lezen, aangezien deze korte stukjes de dagboekfragmenten en de fantasiestukken verduidelijkten.

Het verhaal op zich is gewoon niet interessant en erg verwarrend. Dit maakt dat ik het boek echt niet boeiend vond. Het voordeel is dat dit boek dan ook maar 170 pagina's heeft!

Dear Per Nilsson, thank you for saying that everything is going to be allright. Thank you for giving me hope that there are still decent guys like Jonatan in this world. Guys who think about things, whose actions have actual meaning, and who dare to love.

'Actually nothing special has happened', Jonatan says at the end of the book. And maybe that is true. But even though some might see the events in the plot as nothing special, it meant the world to the protagonist. And that is something that Nilsson repeatedly manages to express in his books: how something that seems insignificant to outsiders can mean a lot. With its poem-like writing style this book is the opposite of artificial: it is like reading along with Jonatan's train of thought that comes right from the heart. That is what makes this book so special and one of the most touching books I have read.

Read this in Swedish for a school project. Not overly impressed. It had some good parts, just like it had some quite bad and uninteresting parts. To be honest, I don't feel like I have much to say about this book at the moment. It was alright, but the main character bothered me, and the Sun Prince bored me to death.

Interessante blik in de belevingswereld (realiteit en fantasie) van een 15-jarige. Minpuntje voor mij dat er niet echt een einde aan het verhaal zat; het stopte gewoon.
