I played and loved a life ago Silent Hill 2 and 3 survival horror videogames.
Unluckly this comic book seems having references and connections to "Silent hill:Downpour" that I've not played, so I'm afraid I've not appreciated fully the storyline. However this psychological horror tale set in 1867 is a real good one and the art is just awesome so not wasted at all my time reading it.
Higly recommended to fans of American Gothic psychological horror stories and diehard fans of Silent Hill videogames.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed ‘Past Life’, it’s a slow story set long ago in the era of Silent Hills formation. The atmosphere and tone were perfect, and I adored the artwork, this is by far the best graphic novel in the franchise and the only one I'd particularly recommend!

'Past Life' allows us to get a glimpse of the early happenings of Silent Hill, some time after the end of the American Civil War. Great art although a little repetitive, as some frames were very much similar to others. A good take on the Silent Hill series, the atmosphere was just right.

A horror graphic novel comes to full creepy realization due to the artwork of Menton3. The idea of skeletons in one's closet proves quite literal when the secrets from the past refuse to stay in the past.
Jebediah Foster lived a rough and bloody life out in the Dakota Territory. He killed more than a few folks [American Indians, a barmaid, a bartender et al]. Then he married, quit drinking and moved Eastward to escape his past. His very pregnant wife seems unaware of Jeb's past. Jeb himself barely remembers it through the hazy drunken memories.
They move to Esther's uncle's house in Silent Hill which they inherited. Everyone they run into seems to know Jeb and a lot about him. But, he can't quite put a finger on why they should know him and a past he'd prefer not to acknowledge. But some definitely know him--a crazy Native American woman, the sheriff, the barman, the barman's wife . . .

La principal diferencia que podemos encontrar entre Past Life y el ya reseñado Dying Inside es el equilibrio. Mientras que Dying Inside era completamente irregular en todo, Past Life logra encontrar el camino correcto, porque no solo tiene una buena narrativa y un gran apartado visual, sino que atrapa y entretiene, se siente como algo salido del universo de Silent Hill.
Aunque no sean dos subgéneros que se mezclen demasiado, desgraciadamente, siempre me genera mucha intriga esta unión entre viejo oeste y terror. Ese esfuerzo del cine por romantizar aquel periodo de los Estados Unidos, llegando a fines del 1800, me compró desde muy pequeño y películas como Dead Birds de Alex Turner, Bone Tomahawk de S. Craig Zahler, o The Burrowers de J.T. Petty, entre otras, son producciones que me vuelan la cabeza primordialmente por su tono y sus ambientes.
Silent Hill: Past Life tiene todo eso que me gusta. Tiene una historia muy bien contada, que te deja conocer a los personajes, genera el contexto necesario para que todo se desarrolle y se siente muy fluido el in crescendo de la narrativa, que te va dejando también entrever de a poco lo que va pasando, de una forma sutil en la que vez venir el final pero, aun así, termina siendo impactante. Lo mejor de todo, es el ambiente que genera, esos climas que uno crea en la cabeza teniendo en cuenta la época, el contexto de la historia, las situaciones y personajes.
Dicho esto, queda claro que lo que hace Tom Waltz como guionista es muy bueno y, como dije antes, se siente una historia que podría ser parte del Silent Hill que al menos yo tengo en la cabeza. Pero el trabajo del artista Menton3 es sublime. Intenta seguir ese estilo muy libre y de trazos desprolijos que propone Ben Templesmith, pero a mi entender, con una superioridad visual destacable, ya que la estructura de los trazos, los diseños de los personajes y los entornos son soberbios, y el toque desprolijo lleno de texturas y detalles más dignos del diseño gráfico los maneja con una maestría de esas que te hacen alucinar.
La conjunción de ambos artistas termina dando una serie (la quinta de todas las que salieron) de cuatro entregas que, como dije antes, resulta ser para mí completamente superior a Dying Inside y, sobre todo, se siente muy propia del universo Silent Hill. Incluso me trajo algunos recuerdos del Silent Hill: Downpour. Tiene los diálogos justos, las pausas justas, cada viñeta es un mundo necesario para contar la historia y todo fluye de principio a fin de una forma tan armoniosa que disfruté leer cada pagina de cada tomo, alimentando esa esperanza de que quizás, algún día, Konami nos regale una nueva y magnífica entrega de esta, mi saga preferida de videojuegos.

Tenía tiempo que un producto de terror no me dejaba así de perturbado. Fenomenal en todo su esplendor. Es el primer acercamiento que tengo con la literatura de Silent Hill fuera de los juegos y películas.
He de decir que quedé encantado y es que por si sola es una historia maravillosa que no necesita de la marca de Silent Hill para brillar. El arte es increíble, tan sutil como aterrador y muy artístico a la vez, de verdad que hace mucho no me topaba con un arte así de genial para un comic.
La narrativa es muy contundente y directo al grano, un hombre asediado por su pasado trata de vivir un presente con un montón de pecados detrás, llegando a un extraño pueblo donde las rarezas que ocurren le convertirán en un eje central más de lo sobrenatural del pueblo.
Únicamente creo que quedan al aire algunas cosas que igual funcionan sin explicarse pero me hubiera gustado que se ahondara en esto. Que genial diseño de la presencia que acecha al protagonista y en general puedo decir que es un excelente comic de terror.

No sabía que existía una historia de Silent Hill ambientada en el siglo XIX, lo cual me parece muy interesante, debido a que la historia del pueblo es bastante antigua. Este cómic de 4 tomos trata sobre Jebediah Foster, un delincuente que junto a su esposa Esther deciden dejar atrás el Oeste y comenzar una nueva vida en Silent Hill. Pronto se dará cuenta que el pueblo tiene algo extraño con sus habitantes. Eso que pretendía olvidar de su pasado, el pueblo se encargaría de recordarle sus atroces pecados.
El arte de la ambientación y de los personajes está bastante bien logrado. También tiene una conexión con Silent Hill: Downpour (videojuego), por la aparición del cartero Howard Blackwood, personaje con el que se encuentra Jebediah y su esposa en la entrada al pueblo. Este hombre parece conocer muy bien Silent Hill, si me lo preguntas Howard es una manifestación del pueblo. Recomendable para los fan del “Sobreviviente de Horror” y el terror psicológico.

This was better than expected, though that's not saying much. Honestly, the fact that this was set in the wild west and was so far removed from everything else Silent Hill related is probably what caused me to like this.
I don't really like Silent Hill just being a town that makes people feel guilty and reminds them of their past sins, as that seems like a narrow and uninformed view of what the original games were about, but whatever.
The art by menton3 was really good and reminded me of Dave McKean's work. I really loved the grimy coloring.
Decent overall.

This was more like the games than any of the other comics, and the art was great, you could never really tell if something was there or not. This tale was almost a prequel to the Silent Hill we know, how it got that way. The characters were a bit bland, the same old western badass trying to go straight, but overall it was pretty good...3 1/2 🌟

Story was fine, artwork was great (though there were some repeat panels juxtaposed next to one another as if hoping we wouldn't notice), but I don't know if I can really view this as canon to the Silent Hill I have come to know. The writer was presumably not a member of Team Silent, nor did this feel like the Silent Hill that I have come to know, in terms of ambiance or theme. There was exactly one reference to Silent Hill that I can recall, that being Toluca Lake. Too short to be truly satisfying. I feel I am being hard on it by giving two stars, but I can't quite justify three stars.

I'm a fan of Silent Hill series. Once in my life I was very deep into the universe.
I'm also deep into comics. I know many artists and many popular stories. Reading daily Marvel or Image stuff. Though I'm drawing comics myself I usually can't get
amazed by any mainstream and popular series like into this one Silent Hill book. The art is great and the way it works with the story and the universe... outstanding!

The actual story feels like an old-timey rehash of some previous Silent Hill game titles. No, the actual events are nothing alike, but the pacing and almost forced callbacks to locations and characters within the games just didn’t mesh well, to me at least. The artwork carries the whole thing. 10/10 art. 5/10 story

me gustó más de lo que pensé, y el arte es una joyita, sentía que estaba viendo un cómic hecho en técnica carboncillo. En general me gustó y creo que porque no he jugado los juegos no puedo apreciar la historia totalmente pero igual me parece que por si sola (y conociendo las bases de silent Hill) la puede entender en lo que cabe

Un Silent Hill western, pourquoi pas hein.
Si les dessins étaient plutôt pas mal, que j'ai bien aimé le côté 'angoissant' des monstres et du personnage de la vieille femme, je dois avouer que c'était un peu long par moment.

Beautiful art. I probably would have preferred it if it was a stand alone and not some loosely connected Silent Hill plot but it was interesting enough.

I’m always fan of horror and mid-19th century outlaws. This hit the spot. Though the story predictability is rather high. The book's visuals enhance the eerie atmosphere akin to the game. It’s a good short read that explores a bit of the Silent Hill lore.

Абсолютно никакая работа, за которую я сел только из-за названия в заголовке. Не будь там этих двух слов - "Silent Hill", к этому произведению не было бы таких требований и ожиданий от него. С другой стороны, не будь этих слов, вряд ли к этому комиксу вообще кто-либо подошел.
Очень мутная история разворачивается в городишке Сайлент Хилл в 1867 году, куда переезжает муж с женой, дабы забыть прошлое и начать строить будущее. Однако в городе начинают происходить жуткие и необъяснимые события...
Никакой атмосферы страха и ужаса, никаких интересных персонажей, никакой вменяемой истории, отсутствие финала (вместо него тут нечто невнятное, странное и оборванное на полуслове), а также слишком мало тут того, что бы напоминало о вселенной Silent Hill. Местами неплохой рисунок тут разве что есть, но и то, красив он далеко не всегда.
Откровенно слабый комикс, мало что имеющий со вселенной популярной серии игр, в котором из хорошего только рисунок, который иногда становится действительно стильным и симпатичным, а также ровно парочка неплохих моментов в сюжете, но во всем остальном, читать это не стоит даже фанатам цикла.

Näyttävä taidepläjäys, mutta tarina jäi hiukan ohkoiseksi. Kuvituksesta tuli unenonmainen tunnelma, joka vaikeutti ainakin minun lukemistani paikoitellen. En aina ymmärtänyt milloin asiat tapahtuivat nykyhetkessä, milloin Hellriderin elämän takautumissa. Myös maisemat jäivät loputtomien luonnosmaisten kasvokuvien jalkoihin, ja välillä oli vaikeuksia ymmärtää missä fyysisessä tilassa tapahtumat liikkuivat. Ne vähät maisemat ja rakennukset joita näytettiin olivatkin sitten huikean synkeitä. Varsinaisia kauhunhetkiä en tämän kanssa kuitenkaan kokenut.

Really good. The atmosphere was there. Could have been a bit longer, but I liked it a lot.

As an avid Silent Hill fan I enjoyed this but the panels were a bit repetitive. I enjoyed the back story and more insight into the Native American lore of the town. Worth the read for Silent Hill fans.
