A collection of short stories by the author of The Far Euphrates and The Illuminated Soul represents his earlier works as published in such literary magazines as American Short Fiction, the Yale Review, and Tikkun and explores such themes as the impact of the past on the present and of one person on another. Reprint. 12,000 first printing.
After the excitement of The Far Euphrates, this book was a huge disappointment. The stories were very WEIRD, with unlikeable characters, unclear endings, and a repetition of character names that confused me - including characters from Far Euphrates with different stories. One of the stories was also too heavy on the science and lost me in mumbo-jumbo. I'm pretty bummed. Starting his third book Illuminated Soul, hoping for better results!
What I liked: The story "New Memories" with Aunt Blossom. What I didn't like: Almost everything else. The stories feel pretentious and overthought. Who I'd give this to: Someone typing on their computer in a coffee shop.
