About the author

After graduating from college in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy at the University of Santo Tomas (UST), FR. JOSE FRANCISCO “JOCIS” SYQUIA entered the seminary in 1989 and completed his training from both San Carlos Major Seminary in Makati City and the University of Santo Tomas Central Seminary. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sacred Theology from the UST Ecclesiastical Faculties and a Licentiate in Spiritual Theology from the Angelicum in Rome. He finished both courses with magna cum laude honors. He also has a Master’s degree in Psychology from the UST Graduate School.

Fr. Jocis is the Head of the Commission on Extraordinary Phenomena for the Archdiocese of Manila. He is the Director of the Archdiocese of Manila Office of Exorcism, an exorcist of Manila and a member of the International Association of Exorcists based in Rome. He completed the Vatican Course on Exorcism and Deliverance at the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical University.

He is the author of the bestselling book Exorcism—Encounters with the Paranormal and the Occult (Shepherd’s Voice Publications), as well as Exorcist: Volume 1—A Spiritual Journey and Exorcist: Volume 2—Spiritual Battle Lines published by ST PAULS. He is also a full-time formator, spiritual director, and professor of spirituality and psychology at the San Carlos Major Seminary.

I didn’t expect myself to love this book! This is actually a short autobiography of Fr. Syquia’s life and how he came to his vocation as an exorcist. This was fun for me to read because there were moments Fr. had with God I could relate to in so may ways. God showing up in Fr.’s life made me tear up a lot because I don’t know a lot of people who credit God for the triumphs and even the mundane moments in their lives and I’m beyond glad that I’m not alone in my experiences with God in such unexpected moments. The book also had a manual of prayers in the end which honestly made me feel refreshed after praying them. I really liked the book and learned a lot about how I should go about my own walk of faith as well. Glory to God! Can’t wait to start the 2nd book ❤️

It was an autobiography of the author Fr. Jocis Syquia. I was surprised to find out that he hails from a wealthy family and grew up in Forbes Park, Makati City. He has an interesting background and life experiences before becoming a Priest. I was also surprised to find out that there was a miracle that happened during Edsa People Power between the Filipino soldiers and the civilians during those difficult times in the 80s.

More than the sensationalized Hollywood Horrors and the conspiracy theories of the Occult, is a story of an idealistic youth, whom in search for meaning and purpose, have found solace in pursing a path of spirituality, of rediscovering who God is, and have allowed himself to be an instrument of healing and deliverance.

People today would no longer acknowledge the mysteries of faith, and have allowed fear of the unknown shape their worldview. Though information have become readily available, people would confuse facts from truths, more so lies, deception, and misinformation that propagates false beliefs and practices that have led people to believe that the world no longer needs religion, more so that it doesn't need God.

The evidence of our society spiraling towards utter chaos is in fact an evidence of how we are truly lost, we have allowed our pride towards our own self determination, that we edged God out, neither did we thought that never acknowledging God, wouldn't protect us from the snares of the fallen one, in fact he finds delight in our denial of their existence.

Remember, the void that we feel in ourselves will never be filled up with earthly stimulation, only with faith and trust, could our spirits be whole again, for we are made for God, and him alone. To deny this, is to allow the fallen to steal what isn't his in the first place.
