this book is an absolute must for every rat owner.

a healthy diet goes a long way to your rats living a long and healthy life, and most commercial rat foods are woefully inadequate at best, dangerous at worst, less still do they take into account a rats different life stages and general health.

this book is an excellent resource, with good, detailed information about rats nutritional needs, reviews of dry foods and dog foods that can be used for mix bases, information about how different foods can impact, positively and negatively on a rats health, feeding for peak condition, growth, pregnancy and lactation, and old age.

there's also information about how to help a chubby rat lose weight, and information on the benefits of scatter feeding and active fast periods for rats, and how to put this in place.

there are also numerous recipes, both for treats and meals (from stir fries and omelettes to cakes and even home made yoggies. some of which sounds good enough to eat yourself)

there are also recipes to help with various health conditions, and the brown rice immune booster has always been a big hit with my critters whenever one isn't well.

there's also a handy at a glance guide to fruits and vegetables that rats can and can't eat. so useful, in fact, that the book is usually in my handbag for checking out any food I find.

I sincerely and honestly believe that a good, varied and healthy diet is one of the best things you can give your rat, and this book is a great tool in achieving that.

if a friend of mine was starting out with rats, I would buy them this book.

I have the second edition of this book, it was so useful when I got my pet rats and enabled me to adapt their diet to so that they would gain more benefit. This also meant they were more active so more playtime!
