More and more individuals every year suffer the devastating effects of depression. In this forthright and compassionate study, Grant Mullen, a medical doctor, helps readers identify symptoms of depression and understand three viable paths of treatment-medication, deliverance, and inner healing. Dr. Mullen explores the medical, spiritual, and inner healing aspects of this disabling and often misdiagnosed condition. From a sound scriptural foundation, he discusses physical causes of depression, exposes Satan's part in deceiving those who are suffering, and offers principles to help the reader learn to "reconnect" head and heart, find self-acceptance, and learn to trust our heavenly Father in a new and joyful way. "Dr. Mullen offers a prescription for the body, soul, and spirit. You will be helped as he shares how you, too, can be physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy. I encourage you to study this very readable book. You just may be set free in Christ." --from the foreword by Dr. Neil T. Anderson
An excellent overview of mental illness as a complex problem that is not bound by our physical bodies or even our souls. Grant Mullen, M.D. writes as a physician who insists that people acknowledge the frailties of the human body, especially out-of-whack neurotransmitters. He insists that while it is, in fact, in your head, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and many other varieties of mental illness can and should be treated with the same clinical dispassion as we would treat a broken bone. That said, mental and emotional illness do not always start or stop in our heads and that, once treated, individuals will have to work on soul and spiritual levels to gain complete healing.
Nothing much was new here to me, having completed the Living in Freedom Everyday curriculum twice, but this is a good overview for someone who might not necessarily understand that humans are made up of body, soul, and spirit and that each part of the person must be treated in order to achieve wellness and wholeness.
A very helpful book on the physical, spiritual, and emotional reasons that people are wounded. A great starting point of the subject with further recommended reading in the back. Would read again.
This is a great book for those who are struggling and want to walk in emotional freedom. He does a good job balancing both the biology of what is going on as well as the Spiritual aspects of walking in freedom from emotional pain.
The best book I've ever read on addressing the need for healing at all levels; body, soul and spirit. For anyone with emotional problems( and don't we all have them to one degree or another) this is a must read. The balance of medical and spiritual is so refreshing. Too often the Christian church has looked at mental issues as being the result of sin. Mullen clearly shows that as a fallacy and gives real hope to those feeling battered and torn by the vicissitudes of life. Highly recommended for all!
I couldn't finish this book. The ideology was too extreme for my beliefs. The author's ideas of medicine and religion were written in a vague and confusing manner. I do hope some people benefit from his perspective of healing.
