The thrilling sequel to DRAGONSLAYERS, it continues the saga of the unlikely Special Forces team thrown head first into the world of counter-terrorism. Ms. Rowe weaves the two seemingly unrelated subjects into an excellent story, filled with suspense that leaves the reader anxiously looking forward to turning the page.”--Jim Greenwald, Lead Reviewer, Military Writer’s Society of America

I must've gotten this book during a Smashwords promotion as it's been sitting on my e-reader for some time. I must've liked the premise enough to download it, and I decided to give it a try last night. Unfortunately, I won't be reading beyond the first chapter.

As this is the second novel in a series, two characters reminisce out loud about "what went on before" to one another in the first few pages. But I find an infodump where characters tell one another things they both already know a bad trick. On top of that, it left me still clueless, and just more confused.

A few pages further on, I get to "meet the team" over a team dinner. Alas, at the end of that scene I still have no real sense of who these people are, what makes them tick, or what their quirks or habits are. I do, however, know who is tallest or smallest, youngest or oldest, and who has the brown eyes.

When we get to meet the bad guys, the story again misses a perfect opportunity to allow the reader into the heads of the characters and let the reader discover for themselves what might make these guys do what they're planning. Again, I'm being *told*, not shown.

Combined with several instances of "head-hopping" I also caught in the first chapter, and a strong suspicion that the rest of the tale will force the characters to do whatever the plot requires, without really exploring their deeper motives as to *why* they would act the way they do, I have deleted the story from my reader.
