Laurence Holt, a serial entrepreneur and a fanatic on the science of learning, created the first Stikky books while on sabbatical in Umbria, Italy. The Stikky approach is based on how people actually learn, starting with small pieces of knowledge and systematically building on them into a comprehensive picture. In 2004, the series won the AEP's Distinguished Achievement Award for Excellence in Educational Publishing. A major update and reprinting of the series began in 2023.
"Stikky Stock Charts" is a helpful intro to stock trading, charts and trendlines. It was helpful to have an image on each page of the stock chart being discussed. The book also does a good job of introducing bigger-picture industry knowledge to the reader, such as experts disagreeing on trends. I worked in finance for seven years and no one described stock charts as simply, so this book definitely served its purpose. It was helpful to see how world events directly affected the stock market over time, like 9/11, the Robinhood meme-stock craze of 2021, etc. My only issue was that at first exchange-traded funds (ETFs) were referred to as stocks, which I consider misinformation that would confuse the reader. Later it was made clear that an ETF was being discussed instead of a stock, but this should have been introduced on first mention for clarity. I look forward to using this book as a resource when buying and selling ETFs in the future. Read more of my book reviews and shop my investing library at https://investingdiscoveries.blog/cat....
This book sat on my shelf for a couple of years before I got to it. I was amazed that it taught me the basics of Stock Market charting analytics in 2 days. Amazing tool. Highly recommended.
I appreciate how the book begins by explaining why reading stock charts is beneficial. The tone is positive and encouraging. Each page is concise, with no more than a sentence or two, which keeps the information digestible. The summaries at the end of each section are particularly helpful, and I love the suggestion to pause for a week to apply what you've learned.
This is the best book I've encountered on the subject. Even the more difficult concepts, such as stop orders to limit losses, are well-explained. The book wisely cautions that trends don't work 100% of the time. It's factual and avoids hype and unrealistic promises. The interactive elements and encouragement to learn by doing make it a helpful resource.
alright, this isn't a novel, but if you want to know a bit more about the stock market, given it's recent effect on global economics, this isn't a bad start.
