The unlikely story of the ACLU in Utah is interesting reading in places. The son and namesake of a Mormon prophet starting the Utah branch in the 1950s (Spencer Kimball anyone?) and the kerfuffle around the Gary Gilmore execution are great stories alone but Linda Sillitoe essentially summarized every Salt Lake Tribune newspaper article about the ACLU and filled in the gaps with a few interviews, so it reads like a well-done master's thesis.
