Erika kills vampires, but not in the usual manner. Her way leaves a body behind, the demon cleansed from the vessel it tried to control. Mitch is a Hunter and Erika's trainer. However, Mitch is ever the traditionalist and focuses more on the physical training and not on Erika's unique ability. Adonis has no qualms about training Erika to use her ability. As long as she uses it to achieve his goals.Buffalo, New York is a long way from Dallas, where the events surrounding the Spiral X nightclub are fading from memory, but the Eternal War knows no boundaries, and battles aren't always won with a stake to the heart.

Erika has been abandoned by her family, left on her own to survive or founder. Either way, they could not care less. She has an odd ability, something that makes her different, and they are not prepared to deal with it. Being on her own has only made her more determined and ferocious than ever. She is a hunter of vampires, and yet she does not understand her own power. She is found by Mitch, also a hunter, and he determines that she needs his training. She is willing to learn but has a difficult time taking direction, or even trusting. When Mitch decides he needs help with her training and brings in Adonis, her life takes on a direction that none of them can conceive of .

Erika is a lonely young woman, abandoned by the very people that should love her. She finds it difficult to trust, and yet she knows that she needs help. Mitch is a strong and thoughtful person, he has seen her wounds and understand the damage that has been inflicted. He cares about her as a person, but he also wants to help her gain strength to protect herself in her profession.

Adonis is an unknown. She is not sure what she thinks of him, and yet he is willing to help. She struggles with his willingness, no one else has been so available to her. When Mitch disappears, Adonis is there to help her succeed. She needs his help to find Mitch, and discover the answers to her strange power.
Will he be the one who can help her? Can she find her calling, and overcome the nightmares in her life?

J.J. Westendarp has the knack of building a strong heroine, and surrounding them with interesting side kicks. He builds a strong story, full of danger and surprises. This Novella is just another vehicle for his wonderful imagination.

A Novella of enjoyable proportions. Fast paced and delightful.

Erika hunts vampires with her mentor and friend Mitch but not in the traditional way. When a vampire tries to bite or attack her, it just dies. Adonis, a mysterious friend of Mitch wants to help her adapt this skill to kill from a distance but Erika is starting to think that she might be being used for another agenda.

Erika was a character who is not fully comfortable with who she is and what she can do. She can be reckless, going out hunting on her own before she is fully in control of her abilities which annoys Mitch who wants to keep her safe. When Adonis comes along he is less rigid about rules and wants to speed up her training to develop her mental killing skills, while Mitch wants to train her in self defence first. I liked her as she was tough but vulnerable and pretty smart.

The plot was interesting and entertaining and was certainly character based. There was good development and the story had a nice mix of vampire death and training. I liked the twist onhow Erika can kill the vampires, which was a bit different from the usual vampire story. I did guess part of what was happening with Mitch but not the major reveal with Adonis. The big finale of the book was satisfying and I did very much enjoy this story. I'm quite keen now to read Spiral X which has been on my wishlist for a couple of years.

Erika has a gift. A special gift that is deadly to Vampires. Her friend, Mitch, is training her on how to defend herself against Vampires since her Gift and its powers are a mystery to her. Mitch introduces her to Adonis who is brought in on her training to help her harness her powers and learn to use them. Little does Erika know how much her gift will end up costing her in the end.
J.J. Westendarp did it again. In this very short novelette he some how manages to put together a great story with characters that pull you right into their world.

His writing captures you from the first page and doesn't let you go well after you've read the final chapter. I, for one, can't stop thinking about whats next and can hardly wait until another book comes out.

Check out my previous review on Spiral X from J.J. Westendarp.

If you haven't picked up these books yet, GO DO IT.

this is a novelette so I won't go into a lot of detail as I don't want to give too much away. But I do want to say that the main character Erika is one to keep an eye on, I have a feeling she will play an important role of her own in future novels of the Eternal War. Or that is what I hope. Mitch and Adonis both play an important role in who Erika becomes and what she learns of herself. This is definitely worth your time, it is a quick read and one that will leave you wanting more and more as Spiral X does as well. I couldn't put it down once I opened my copy and honestly I have been having a problem finding books like that lately. So run out and grab your download now

For a short story, Split gets a lot done. The main character, Erika, immediately becomes familiar and comfortable. As the introduction to another character in the Eternal War (begun in Spiral X), it accomplishes its purpose of making me want to find out more about her while still giving me a distinct and satisfying story in its own right. Don't let the fact it is only 15,000 words fool you, this is a meaty story and well worth your time.
