All Signs Lead to Lucy

Rate this book
After living a life of failed, predictable relationships, Lucy Fister took the advice of the psychic who charged sixty dollars for ten minutes: start seeking men who are the absolute opposite of who she dated. It made sense, but paying for the obvious meant it might work.

Tyler Tolliver met that criteria. He was an out of work actor who’d invented the love language ‘have a good time.’ They had a whirlwind relationship and after four months, he proposed, holding a bread tie for a ring, and giving the argument that the lease on his loft was expiring.

One year into her marriage with Tyler, and Lucy was tired of playing Xbox, clubbing, and watching movies before reading the book. She missed conversations deeper than picking where they’d eat, and being in bed before midnight. When her estranged best friend, Vanessa asked her and Tyler to go on a week-long trip to the Caribbean with her new fiancé, Martin VanLeer, Lucy accepted the invitation.

Fate scatters people and plans like a ceiling fan scatters loose papers. On the eve of the trip, Tyler and Vanessa respectively were called to fulfill work related tasks. The new plan was for them to meet up with Lucy and Vanessa’s fiancé in a couple of days.

One week is all it took for Martin and Lucy to fall in love. And for Lucy to realize that psychic was wrong—she didn’t need to find someone opposite of all the guys she dated, she needed to be warned of the millionaire engaged to her best friend. Because if they acted on this attraction, it meant destroying a marriage, a wedding, and a lifelong friendship.

This is a good book about cheating with an attractive cover and a somewhat catchy title. I like the blurb that promises a saga.

It's written from the first-person POV of Lucy, who's cheating. Occasionally, you're coerced into agreeing with her thoughts before you return to the real world and realise how ridiculous the plot is. I condone cheating and can't get past that point, which ruined the book for me. But the blurb makes the cheating obvious. Hating the story would be like hating a fantasy book because the genre is fantasy.

In this whole chaotic mess, Martin is the only likeable character. When he lies about them being a married couple, it's evident and set in stone that he wants to get together with Lucy.

The writing is good. The subplots are engaging. Had I been okay with cheating, I would've definitely enjoyed it more. The ending could've been more emotional and steamy.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Lucy Fister and failed relationships are synonymous. So on the advice of her psychic, she started dating men who differed from the ones she’s usually drawn to. This decision led to her meeting Tyler. Reeling from the loss of her father, Tyler came into her life at a point where she craved companionship. She saw this as a sign of him being her soul mate. However, after one year of marriage, she begins second guessing the sign. The opportunity to put back the fire in their relationship came when her best friend, Vanessa, invited her and Tyler for a one week vacation on her fiancée’s yacht.

However, at the last minute Tyler claimed he couldn’t make it and insisted she go her own. Then the day before they were to set sail, Vanessa had to deal with a client, thus leaving Martin and Lucy to take the trip on their own. Soon, Lucy and Martin develop feelings for each other. Lucy struggles with her feelings and fears the consequences if she allows herself to give into her attraction.

All Signs Lead to Lucy is a multifaceted story featuring complex characters, some of whom the reader felt compelled to give a swift kick to the butt. As one can guess from the synopsis, infidelity plays a major role in this story, but don’t let that deter from picking up this book. It’s not completely black and white. The further one goes into the story, one recognizes how screwed up life can be sometimes and all is not as it seems. Facts both Julie and Martin will be forced to face.

Julie is that person who puts everyone needs above hers and this trait resonated throughout the story. For someone who believes in signs, Julie failed to see the huge neon ones regarding her relationship with her husband, Tyler. I am not sure if it was a case of her seeing them and choosing to ignore it or she was completely blind to them.

The takeaway from All Signs Lead to Lucy is never trust the advice of a psychic when making life changing decisions. Instead, follow your instincts. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

Lucy is fed up and has to face some real decisions about her marriage and her life in general. After a whirlwind romance, she marries someone she barely knows and a year later, realizes they have little in common. Simultaneously, she tries to support a good friend who is recently engaged. When Lucy meets her fiend’s fiancé though, the plot thickens and the future is definitely uncertain.

The author gave the reader a slow burn over a few weeks, for the characters falling for one another, while also trying to portray them as innocents in a big mix up. I didn’t think Vanessa or Martin’s characters had enough depth though, as Vanessa’s shallow nature seemed counter to Lucy’s life approach. And Martin seemed stuck, unsure how to live his own life. Lucy is also repeating her behavior of falling for someone quite quickly.

All is resolved by the end and people are with the right partners, but there is a lot of angst and miscommunication along the way.

All Signs Lead to Lucy is an easy-to-read, fun romance full of laughter, tears, and an overall story I didn't want to end.

Ms. Dove has a wonderful sense of humor and it shows throughout this story. There were times I laughed out loud--and it takes a lot to make me even chuckle. Some humor is ridiculous, but Ms. Dove does a beautiful job of creating Lucy's character with a down-to-earth sense of humor that's easy to find humor in, and I think the other characters enjoyed it as much as I did. The characters are fleshed out nicely and I enjoyed the friendship between Lucy, Penny, and Vanessa. I found myself grinding my teeth at Vanessa's character, and that's when I know the author has done her job of creating an unlikeable human. I did enjoy Vanessa's turnaround at the end, but I also think someone like her wouldn't do that huge an about-face. The author did too good a job painting her as unlikeable, the same way she did with Tyler--although he was just a putz because of his immaturity. Nicely done, Ms. Dove.

I loved Lucy's character and felt as though she'd be someone I'd like to be friends with. I also loved Martin's character, flawed in his own way, yet another human who would be on my friend list. Penny is a sweetheart, as are some of the other secondary characters. Ms. Dove has a way with characterization and dialogue that's so well done I felt as if I was there with them.

This is a fun story, one I read in a couple of days and couldn't wait to get back to. The plot was typical romance, yet there were enough twists to make it feel unique, and the settings were also nicely done.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick read and a journey you'll find yourself smiling along the way.

lovely love story of true emotion

I loved that they stood by their true feelings for each other. I would have been upset if they would have married each other (Vanessa/Martin)
Lucy and Martin were true to themselves! Good story

This was a fun read. I enjoyed it all the way to the end, and the ending was better than I expected. I felt the characters were written very well, and you could really feel Lucy’s spiral towards the end of the book. There is some infidelity, so if that’s something you don’t want to read about then this book isn’t for you.

Lucy Fister was down bad when it came to her relationships (aren’t we all at times?), well she decided it was time to stop listening to her gut and listen to her psychic. Although, what her psychic said is something anyone could have said. Date people who are the opposite of the guys you usually go for. Wouldn’t that be a foolproof idea? Hmm…maybe not. She met Tyler. The guy she thought she would spend the rest of her life with…but just after one year of marriage their fire fizzled. Could they rekindle their flame with a one-week trip to paradise? Lucy thought so, but Tyler backed out last minute and didn’t go.

Who else didn’t go? Her best friend put the whole thing together. All who was left was herself and her best friend’s fiancé. An innocent vacation, right? Wrong. This is the part where I struggled with. I have a hard time dealing with any type of infidelity; even if it may be fictional. There’s always that moral gray area when it comes down to it, and I think that allowed me to still enjoy the book. I knew going into it that this would happen, which also helped me deal with that trope. There are certain things that aren’t always as they seem.

I will say that I really enjoyed the characters. I thought Lucy was a likable, relatable person. There were so many aspects that I was like, “girl, do what YOU want” but at the same time, I struggle with that in my own life. Putting other people above yourself. She finally came around and started valuing her needs. I think a lot of people tend to judge people in books for not having their stuff together, but I don’t either. I think it makes the story more interesting that way. I can connect with it more. Did Lucy have a bit more of a mess than I do in my life? Yes, she absolutely did. I think some things could have been taken back a bit, but in the end, it all made sense and came together well.

To wrap it up…I think the book was a quick, simple read that you could finish in one sitting. I think Lucy, even with her imperfect self, was relatable and I think some people would enjoy reading about something real. Not everything is rainbows and butterflies. In the end, though, it all worked out the way fate intended it to.

There is something special about having the same name as the lead character in any book, and I can't explain why I love it so much. I'm undecided if I should relate to Lucy Fisher, and I'm struggling to decide.

Lucy's life is in constant disarray, and her choices are less than ideal. Even though I don't agree with the way she behaved in certain cases, I could relate to her struggles and comprehend how she ended up in such difficult scenarios.

The title of this book was the only reason I picked this up, and I am so happy that I did! It surprised me at how quickly I read this book, and it kept me emotionally engaged and looking forward to what the conclusion would be. The writing was so captivating and absorbing that I had no difficulty in getting immersed in Lucy's life.

If you are looking for a good book to read on the beach or for your book club, this is an excellent option as there is plenty to discuss and it could lead to some lighter conversations or even some more meaningful ones.
This story's dominant theme is marital affairs and moral laxity, which could evoke emotions of discomfort in some readers.

This book is an enjoyable and cheerful read, which is made even better by the likeable characters, as well as a storyline that flows so effortlessly. A treat for any fans of second-chance romances. This is a recommended read for fans of this genre, and I will look out for future work written by this author.

Lucy Fister decided that she would follow the advice of a psychic, and date mean who were so different to those from her past. When she meets Tyler Tolliver, he fits the bill. When he proposes, Lucy believes that this might be her chance. Yet one year of being marriage, finds her wondering what is happening. So after she agrees to go take a week long vacation with her friend, Vanessa and her fiancé, Martin VanLeer, what happens, is life changing. When Tyler and Vanessa are unable to go, leaving Lucy and Martin together, they find themselves falling in love. Soon Lucy is uncertain where her life is taking her, and wondering what the consequences will be, if she follows through with her attraction to Martin.
A confronting story with lives torn apart by infidelity, yet with any story, there are always two sides. Lucy is determined to please Tyler, yet her dreams for a future suffer. She lets Vanessa have power over her, yet does so to keep a friendship. Yet when she decides to follow her own desires, she must hurt those around her. This book reflects how life is never simple - an interesting read.

I didn't like this book very much. The writing was fine, and I suppose all's well that ends well, but it wasn't very fun getting there.

I was kind of irritated by how steadfastly Lucy clung to her need to "do the right thing". It also seemed like she was being an exceptional friend to someone who wasn't a good friend back, though that is ultimately resolved. I just didn't like how Lucy never seemed to do what SHE needed, and wasn't really honest with herself about how she felt.

I think it could have been an interesting story, I just didn't like how it was handled. Probably wouldn't recommend it, and definitely wouldn't read it again.

This had potential, but there was just so much stuff happening that felt annoying that the end wasn't satisfactory. The characters were alright, but Lucy just had too much happening. I got that she had this inner turmoil, but there were so many things that went i to it that I was never sure what the heck was her real problem. I felt like if the focus was all over the place and about half way through the book I was ready to add this one to the DNF pile, but for some reason I had hope that it was all going to turn around. I finished and really if I hadn't it would have been fine.

Thank you NetGalley for the arc.

For much of its length, All Signs Lead to Lucy is about Lucy's choice between a promising new romance and loyalty to her estranged husband and her best friend - but all these relationships feel more based in Lucy's elaborate interior monologue than in the real world. Near the end, the story becomes more complex and deeper as several formerly-peripheral characters appear in provocative, moving scenes. I wanted to see more of those characters, and and the questions they raised - and perhaps less of Lucy's rather generic new love interest. 3.5 stars.

Thank you NetGalley and Julieann Dove for the ARC of All Signs Lead To Lucy. This is my personal review.
First let me say Lucy is not someone I would ever be friends with in real life. I did not like her as a person in any way. She is a mess, and her life is a mess and things she did in the story made no sense to me.
I read the book, but it is one that will not stick in my mind as one I will ever read again

I stopped reading since I do not enjoy reading about couples cheating. It was an okay read up to that point.

could have been better

Lucy is a smart woman but just can’t see the signs of a bad marriage. She was so frustrating to read at times. The ending was cut a bit short too!

I couldn't get past the AI generated voices. It took away from the story, and I found myself zoning out during the story. The story was good and would have been rated higher if different readers.
