Collins Big Cat supports every primary child on their reading journey from phonics to fluency. Top authors and illustrators have created fiction and non-fiction books that children love to read. Levelled for guided and independent reading, each book includes ideas to support reading. Teaching and assessment support and eBooks are also available. When Clara's Dad tells her that his old bike is actually a time machine, she laughs. After all, time machines aren't real! But when a bike ride around the garden brings her face to face with a T-rex, she'll wish she had paid more attention when Dad was explaining how the machine worked! Copper/Band 12 books provide more complex plots and longer chapters that develop reading stamina. Pages 30 and 31 allow children to re-visit the content of the book, supporting comprehension skills, vocabulary development and recall. I read this book with my 5-year-old daughter (very soon to be 6) and she really enjoyed it. She particularly loved the fact it had dinosaurs in it!

She is currently reading at this level as she has been moved ahead at school and reads with the children in Year 2 to encourage her development and is on the level 12 books so this fit in really nicely to that and we have added it to her reading diary.

The book showed me as her mum exactly why this was right for her as she fully embraced this story, she wanted to read it and wanted to carry on too after she had started. She is a really keen reader, loves to learn and would much rather escape with a story where her imagination can run away than watching TV - she really enjoyed the whole story and the next morning was telling her grandparents all about it on the way to school so it was defiantly a hit!

She loved that the sentences and chapters were longer and she was able to read a proper story. We normally have a few shorter stories at night so it was brilliant that we had a longer one this time.

It is 5 stars from us for this book – very highly recommended – it was a fun read!
