The day Denise Potter receives the earth-shattering news her husband and son were killed, she thinks her life is over. In an instant, all of her plans and dreams for the future die with them. She never expects to find comfort in the arms of her much younger brother’s best friend.
Wyatt Williams has always carried a torch for his buddy’s older sister. His crush started when they formed an unlikely friendship years earlier. Now he’s on a mission to help her see him as more than just the goofy kid she remembers, and help heal her broken heart.
As Wyatt helps Denise navigate her new normal, she discovers the sexy rancher’s sensitive side he keeps hidden. Before moving on with the man who’s destined to be her future, she has to say goodbye to her old life. With a surprise thrown at her right as she accepts her new destiny, can she continue to let Wyatt get close or will she shut him out forever?
Mica Rae is a contemporary romance author. She lives in Oregon with her Havanese and two Doodles. In the fall you can find her screaming at the TV while cheering for her Oklahoma State Cowboys. The rest of the year when she’s not writing or reading, her wanderlust has her traveling the globe. Her love of history currently has her on a mission to visit all thirteen presidential libraries and museums.
Mica Rae has done it again. I’ll be honest here. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this story. I have liked Wyatt’s character since the first book, but Denise not so much. Mica changed my mind before the first chapter finished.
This book will teach you why one should never judge a person until you’ve walked a mile in her shoes. You cannot say what you would do in a situation until you’ve faced it yourself. While we like to believe we know, we don’t and it is nice to be reminded of that in a story that was entertaining and an amazing read.
Wyatt and Denise are a couple who have faced more than their share of drama and tragedy. Life has thrown so much at them, and these two were required to figure out what to do with the pieces left behind when it all shattered. The bond they formed through these events makes this story real and relatable. The lessons they teach us about love and friendship are why Mica has become a one-click author for me.
I highly recommend this book. If you’ve not read her other books you can start here, but I promise once you are finished, you’ll want to go back and read the others.
Thanks for sharing this amazing story with us Mica, I cannot wait to see what you write next.
Denise receives the news about her husband and son death her world is turn upside. She doesn’t know who to turn to because her family has their own issues. So she finds support in the most in unlikely person her younger brother best friend Wyatt.
Wyatt has been in love with Denise since he was 11. When this tragic happens to her he is there for Denise where no one else is. Through events that happen to them through the book. They have to found not only their self but Denise has to release her guilty over her love for Wyatt in order for them to have a future.
Protect has so many emotions. You will laugh and cry with Denise as she comes to terms with her past and her future. Wyatt is the perfect hero in the book he show strength, patience, and love that is all Denise needs. Mica Rea does a fantastic job pulling you in to Protect and you reading it in one sitting. She made the characters so wonderful. Dan and Susy are the cutest couple. And the ending couldn’t be more perfect for Wyatt and Denise.
Remember there are triggers in the book: mental health, rape, grief and death. I was give this arc for my honest opinion!!
Denise and Wyatt have been friends forever even though there's 7 years difference in their age. Wyatt is best friends with her younger brother and has always had feelings for her even though he is 22, she sees him as the goofy kid that she always remembers. Denise was there for him when his Mom died so they have a bond and when Denise gets the horrible news that her husband and son have died he is there for her. He gives her strength and love and is by her side through it all but is that enough? They both have some soul searching to do and figure out what they want in life. Can Denise ever get through her grief and move forward and will Wyatt wait?
This book deals with rape, death, grief, mental health issues and is handled beautifully.
Can't wait for Dalton's story!
I received an ARC of this book for my honest review. 5 stars
This is a first read for me by this author. This book dealt with a serious topic, grief. It's different for everyone and for Denise, it was crippling. Wyatt is her younger brother's best friend, but he is the one that is there for Denise in every way, perhaps its too much for her? Her emotions are all over the place, especially when she thinks "Forearm Friday!, then she remembers a "the driveway covered in mousetraps for fun." She doesn't catch a break and I can't say what those things are as that would spoil it, but boy are they catastrophic! Another poignant remark is "you're only as alone as you allow yourself to be." It's a slow burn story and its a beautiful story of two people who finally get their happily ever after.
Mica has done it again...Protect was captivating from page 1, I wanted the story to continue far past the last page. The story between Denise & Wyatt gives you all the feels. I have no doubt you will fall in love with the characters in this book & their love for each other! Grab yourself a copy and travel away to the peace & quiet of the ranch!
This book had me feeling so many emotions. I laughed, cried, and thought things can only get better. The way the characters came together and their history was well written. You could feel the emotion coming off of the pages. I’m a fan of this series and author
I just can’t get enough of this series just when I think I won’t like one of this authors books she goes and makes my head explode.
This was a very emotional book but written so beautifully. I highly recommend this entire series and grab the tissues this one will have your heart breaking and leaping out of your chest within seconds!
This one was by far my favorite. I loved the whole ranch and horses and everything. Denise’ story was so sad. It broke my heart. But don’t let that scare you away, just keep reading and it’ll mend it back together
This book takes you on an emotional rollercoaster hitting you right in the feels. I couldn't put this one down. Denise and Wyatt will captivate you with their story. It's an excellent well written page turner.
I loved this story. It was just simply beautiful. Grief is a tough subject to get right but this author has done a fantastic job whilst also being able to create a love story. I absolutely loved it. I've read the previous ones and can't wait to read more in this series.
I had so many emotions running through me as I read this story. I never liked Evan but not enough to wish tragedy on him. And my feelings for Denise were and are that she was the villain in book one. This is a controversial love story to say the least, but I couldn’t put it down. I kept reminding myself that Heathcliffe and Catherine were villains and I still loved and cherished them despite it all. I think that’s what kept me reading. It’s fiction so I don’t know if these two would survive in real life but as messed up as it is everyone deserves happiness. I’m looking forward to the next book.
“Protect” was another example of how Mica Rae is growing into a beautiful writer. There were many moments when I could feel what the characters were feeling and wholly empathize with their situations.
There are many reasons that I love this series, but the main one is how the characters are all intertwined through their life experiences. After many books, I want to know how the characters lives are going, but you don’t have to worry about that with Mica Rae’s books. They always come back for visit! I know they’re fiction, but I still care about them. 😉
In this book, we explore the heartbreak of losing loved ones way too soon. Also, when is it ok to move on? Mica Rae’s book thoughtfully and compassionately navigates this topic. There were many “I’m not crying, you’re crying” moments, but also “That was too funny” moments too! Bring on the next one! I’m ready!
I’m so excited to introduce you to Wyatt! He is one of my favorite book boyfriends I’ve ever written. I can’t wait for you to meet him!
We first met Wyatt in Hush as the goofy best friend of Dean. There were glimpses to his deeper side, but we mostly saw his jokes and class clown antics. Again in Cherish, there were hints that there’s more than meets the eye with Wyatt, but now his story is finally here.
Wyatt is more sensitive than we ever imagined. Add in his need to protect the girl he’s loved from afar since he was a kid and we get this sweet yet sexy leading man.
