City of Sin #1

Where Angels Fall

Rate this book

Makenna Taylor and Reid Landry are high school sweethearts.
He was her first. Her only.
They had life all planned out, right down to the white picket fence and 2.5 kids. Then Reid joined the Marines, and from that day forward, life as Makenna knew it would never be the same.

She thought she was just another girl with a part-time job waiting tables while she worked her way through college. She thought she was living the fairytale on her way to her very own happily ever after. She thought Cal Suppato was just another man.

She was wrong.

Soon, she would learn that every family has secrets. Every stranger has a dark side. And love isn’t a simple four-letter word. The curtain is pulled back, and Makenna’s world begins to unravel, thread by thread, to reveal something darker—something she’d only heard about in the whispers of her grandmother’s living room. A world many know about but simply refuse to see.

*This is not an MFM story. It is not a love triangle, and there is NO CHEATING. This is the story of three people’s lives intertwined in the threads of fate and the timeless question that always remains unanswered: What if?

Out of character for her, we meet a 17-year-old Makenna Taylor at a house party. When the police show up, she takes off out the back door with Reid Landry. Successfully evading arrest, their trek through downtown is the beginning of their love story.

Where Angels Fall is the story of first love, heartbreak, and fate. Beautiful and intensely emotional.

Full disclosure: I was nervous going in knowing there are two male leads. I don’t do love triangles and abhor cheating. You’ll find neither so go in blind and avoid spoilers.

This book was...interesting. I don't know how to feel and still have no idea where the story is going or where the characters per se fit in but I'm intrigued to say the least.

Fingers crossed, there's more to the story and the dead ex trope because Gosh that trope really does put a bitter taste in my mouth.

Also the cover? Exquisite

Words can’t express how badly I need book two right NOW. Where Angels Fall is my first Delaney Foster book, but it definitely won’t be my last. From page 1, I was entranced. I couldn’t put it down. I lost sleep. I would advise going into this book completely blind. It’s so fast paced, and everything (every single word) is written with intention. When I tell you guys that I felt like I was the one living this story…I felt EVERYTHING! All the swooning, all the arousal, all the despair, all the anger. I FELT IT ALL. I was transported from reality into this world that Delaney created, and I didn’t want to leave. The book ends on a big cliffhanger, and I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!

As much as I want to tell you all about the characters, I just can’t. You have to read it to find out. I feel like I read two completely different books within this story, but like…in a good way. Part two switches povs to dive deeper into a hidden world that will no doubt collide head first with Part 1. I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t what was delivered, and I am here for it 👏🏼

The spice was amazing. The sexual tension from the jump was so palpable…freaking sizzling. Had me like 🥵🥵😮‍💨😮‍💨

I loved every MC in this book. And not one single person was written in that didn’t play a significant role. I can’t wait to see what book 2 holds in store for the MCs. I have to know. All the stars. This is a book I think almost everyone I talk to would enjoy. Pick it up on 3/23/23. You will not be sorry.

Favorite Quotes:

I’m done dancing in the sun. I’ve fallen into the darkness.

I don’t know why, or how, but I can almost physically feel my universe shifting to make room for him in my world. I feel every ounce of his pain.

“That’s surface level shit. Take me deeper. I want to go where no other guy has ever been.”

“When I finally make you mine, I want you to remember every detail.”

“That’s it, baby. Rub that pussy all over my pillow. Soak it. Drip all over it so that I can smell you every night when I go to bed.”

That’s what we are: a spark that burst into a raging flame. Fiery hot and all-consuming, and bound to leave behind a pile of ashes.

This book surprised me in a few ways and I loved it!
Makenna and Reid are high school sweethearts who are living a happy life together, working and going to college.
Cal is a mystery for most of the book. I couldn’t figure out how he fit into the story or even where the story was going.
The vibe of the book has a bit of a foreboding feeling and yet, also a sweet romance was happening.
It had me feeling off kilter and the reasons became apparent in grand fashion. Add the city of New Orleans as the backdrop, haunting psychic predictions and whispers of characters being in the Mafia and it’s a really intriguing, atmospheric book.
Once the big, surprising things happen it hit me like an emotional freight train! I did not see so many things coming, I’m still in shock.
Any more information would be spoilers, I recommend avoiding those so you get the full affect.
If you want an emotional story that’s mysterious, takes unexpected turns, shreds your heart and leaves you needing the rest of the story ASAP- this is a book for you.
It’s a trilogy with only a few weeks between releases so the cliffhanger shouldn’t be too difficult…. I’m trying to convince myself of that.
I really enjoyed this and cannot wait for the next book!

“I’ll probably destroy you, but I can’t seem to stay away.”

Wow! Here I sit, stuck in a stupor—a coma if you will—from a brilliant book that’s still making me bleed. Where Angels Fall is the storm I never saw coming, but one that wrecked me, leaving me in pieces. My heart and soul shattered and soared for this love story that played like a movie in my head while reading. A captivating burst of pain and pleasure that had me reeling and feeling every word. Intense. Intoxicating. Incredible.

Dearest readers, I cannot and will not divulge much about the plot or characters because you must unwind this romance yourself. Dive into this unique and unequivocally moving book blindly so you can bask in the twists and turns. Hop on this roller coaster driven by fate and just feel the ride. Prepare to be swept away by a hero and heroine whose love story is unexpected but extraordinary.

Where Angels Fall sank into my soul—thrusting my emotions on edge—as its pendulum-like push and pull annihilated me. I felt like I was dangling off the steepest cliff, about to nose-dive into an abyss, unprepared for the fall. Oh did I fall … so hard … so fast … so much. I can’t stop falling … I can’t stop feeling this fated romance that’s heroic, haunting, and heartbreakingly beautiful. It was my undoing!!! I’m dying for more!!!

💋💋💋💋💋💋 hauntingly beautiful kisses

I am a huge fan of Delaney Foster and everything she does, but she punched me in the gut with this one and friends don't do that to each other 😂

Maks and Reid are high school sweethearts, and they are legit the perfect couple. I love everything about them and if I had a Reid, I might consider a serious relationship myself. (not that anyone is beating the doors down, but I digress).

Of course they can't just live a quiet peaceful life, and if they did, it would be a boring book. Just, have a box of tissues nearby. I don't cry, but I bet a lot of people would.

There's no cheating, no mfm, because I know people get frantic about that. This is book 1 of 3.

All it takes is a single moment for your whole life to change.

I don’t know what I just read but I do know that I just binged the hell out of it!

If you are wanting to read this, just go in blind like I did. Delaney Foster had me on the edge of my seat the whole book.

Onto book 2! This is a trilogy and must be read in order.

Fate is mean and cruel. This story will show that in more ways than one. Bring a box of tissues, you're going to need it at one point.
This was an amazing start to this series. Delaney brings all the feels. You'll be happy, shocked, excited and then devastated.
Reid and Makenna are wonderful characters. She's the shy one and Reid is the outgoing popular one, total opposites that come together and start a relationship starting their Junior year. As their story unfolds, will it be a completely happy story or will it be a tragedy?
I thought it was an exceptional story of love, distance and then tragedy. The characters endure and then..... I almost forgot the connection Makenna has with a stranger the night her and Reid become a couple. This is a mystery throughout the relationship of Reid and Makenna that will be revealed at some point but is still a mystery.
I recommend this Author and this series once available.

This was a solid 4 stars for me. The first book I’ve read by this author and I was sold. Not as spicy as I normally like but the plot totally outweighed the sexy time (don’t get me wrong it had some spice).
We find Makenna and Reid seniors in high school and falling madly in love. He’s from a good fam with solid parents who want him to follow in ole dad’s footsteps by going to law school, she is raised by a half assed mama because the dad ran off. Maks finds solace in Reid’s arms as well as in his family. He decides to change his plans for the future and it just goes ass over tit after that. A trainwreck that you see coming but can’t look away from. I was anxious from the beginning. Not to mention their first date she happens upon a stranger that she has a connection with even though she has no idea what that is. The end of this book was so painful but I can’t wait to see where this story goes. This is a trilogy with the last book just releasing a week ago!
No cheating, no triangle, but it is a little dark as it’s mafia and set in the southern witchy town of New Orleans!

I loved it and I’m looking forward to the rest of the story!!!

I’m not going to lie when I say I struggled to get into this book. It took me some time to understand the direction it was going and where the characters were going. In the end i should not have gotten so emotional towards the last half of the book. I definitely felt the emotions that Makenna was going through. (Delaney you know what you did 😭) Overall I can’t wait for the rest of trilogy and I am DEFINITELY intrigued on what’s to come. I feel like there’s a lot of secrets to come and I cannot wait to uncover them all.

Where Angels Fall made me melt into a puddle, swoon like crazy and then pretty much broke me into pieces on the floor! I'm in awe with this story, with Makenna's journey through epic out-of-this-world love and the shattering of souls. In awe of the way you feel that raw beautiful love in your bones and of the way this book swarmed deep into my heart 🥹❤️

Delaney Foster's books always have made me fall in love with both the world and characters completely from the beginning and it certainly was the same with this one. And damn the tears I shed reading this 🤧💔 I don't want to say too much but believe me everything is worth that feeling of your heart being so consumed by it all that you feel the emotions so thoroughly.

This is the kind of book that has you smiling one second, fanning yourself because of the 🔥 hotness the next and then BOOM have everything blurred because of the tears in your eyes.

Usually I would go deeper into the characters and their love journey but with Makenna's story being much more complex with that I only wanna give you a slight inside into the story, but damn guys this is the beginning for this trilogy and I already know this will be one of my favs, this is simply a must read and experience on your own kind of book! Spectacular!

Well colour me intrigued.

I don’t think I found this nearly as angsty as some other readers did, but I’m certainly interested in continuing the series to see where this story goes!
*Note* apparently they get darker as they go, be sure to check content warnings before proceeding.

A quick, engrossing read and a great start to a trilogy!

"I’m done dancing in the sun. I’ve fallen into the darkness."

Delaney Foster has once again sucked me into a new world. Where Angels Fall is the first book in the City of Sin series. I fell quickly in love with Makenna and Reid. High school sweethearts. They have the kind of love that makes your heart flutter and your pulse speed up. You could truly feel how much they love each other on the pages. The chemistry between them is fire.

“I’ll probably destroy you, but I can’t seem to stay away.”

Delaney crushed me. I'm not ok after finishing this book. I wasn't expecting to feel so much in such a short amount of pages. But she proved me wrong. And I cried. What is going on with me? I used to never cry for books and suddenly I've become an emotional mess. Ok I'll be waiting for book 2 and hopefully some redemption.

If you think you are prepared, I promise you aren't! I kept telling myself I would be ok, and I still watched my heart break! I will definitely be thinking about this book for a long while, this one isn't going to leave me anytime soon. Reid and Makenna are unforgettable and have left my emotions on my sleeve for everyone to see. This is definitely in my top reads so far this year, and I know the next two will be right there with it!!

Delaney is one of my favorite authors so I’m always down to read her books.

This one is a total switch from what I’m used to with the Obsidian Brotherhood. It’s emotional and so swoon worthy. But it had a touch of darkness.

The relationship between the MCs is the stuff of fairy tales. I kept waiting for some crazy betrayal to happen (I’m jaded what can I say). No spoilers here so I won’t tell you what happens. But it’s absolutely worth the read!

DELANEY LOUANN FOSTER!!Girl! I am screaming. Now friends, I really have no Idea what this author’s actual given middle name truly is so I gave her one of my own choosing. Because I am southern AF and down here where I am from ( Georgia) the number of names I holler out reflects the level of emotional distress I am feeling at that given moment. If I have “middle-named” ya I’m feelin’ something, but by golly If I have FULL named ya, you know what you did and if you don’t you soon WILL. lol
So now I have conveyed to everyone my current emotional state, and it ain’t great in some ways but in some it’s amazing. This story Where Angels Fall is partially to blame. Well mostly, but not all. I am addicted to the dark, devious, and sinister worlds this author pens so perfectly. I knew before I even started Where Angels Fall all the potential for unpredictability, and emotional wrecking because she does those things so well. But like the literary junkie I am, a total glutton, greedy to get my hands on every single word she writes I jumped in Helen Keller style. ( the bestest way to do it IMO) I went in blind and didn’t listen to anything about the book details. I have loved all her other books so I thought I would like this one. I did not like this one. I FLIPPIN LOVED IT!!

HOLY MOTHER! Y’all I know I said my emotions are a mess and they are BUT that is because I read stories for these kinds of love stories. For that First perfect and pure love. It’s so new and patient. The kind so true that it doesn’t give a rip about economical differences or popularity. It’s just burning hot passionate love built on a solid foundation you know could withstand all time. The ever important supportive, loyal and protective kind. The unforgettable sacrificial love. You know, like Jack floating on a door for Rose and turning into a frozen Jacksicle.
( there was most definitely room for him on that dang door y’all) Anyhoo…

These characters were, and are everything. Makenna, Reid, and Cal have this incredible yet highly emotional series of devastating circumstances that causes their lives to become entwined. (even if they don’t yet know it) Gah the way the story unfolds. I love the telling of events from four years ago to the present and getting different characters' views.

While I know I mentioned three main characters and made reference to love, I will say not to fear this is NOT a love triangle story and there is NO cheating. It will suck you in and you are nowhere near ready to be spit back out. You will cry, you will rage, you will swear, but you will most definitely swoon. I know I am pretty vague on details and I will continue to be so because SpoilersSuck!! Take my advice and PLEASE read this phenomenal story. Like me you will probably need to seek out someone to talk to. Because we read some things and were not okay.

I need the next book ASAP. However I am pretty certain I will never fully recover from this trilogy and I can’t wait for it to leave its scars. I welcome the pain because eventually it gives way to pleasure.
Five Stars just doesn’t cut it. SIX IT IS! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Delaney Foster was quickly earned her spot as one of my very favorite authors. She can consistently write these stories that are just gripping, dark, and downright angsty that you just don’t ever forget. I dove into this series completely blind-I’ve found thays the best way to handle the very best authors, and this story proved to be no different.
This story was full of red hot steam, left me a bumbling cry baby mess, and was just so beyond charming that im counting down the days to the next book.
I can’t really tell you if it was a long story-once I picked it up I simply couldn’t put it down. This series has the makings of a large motion picture-that’s how absolutely flawless it was. Without giving anything away, I’d urge you to pick this one up immediately.

⚠️ Trιggᥱr Wᥲrᥒιᥒg

I can’t say much about this first book in the series because I don’t want to give anything away. But after a brief conversation with Delaney, I was prepared to be hit in the feels and that’s exactly what happened. She warned me that even though this isn’t the darkest book she’s written, it is a very emotional book. Since it’s rare that a book really gets to me in that way, I wasn’t really worried, but I obviously didn’t know what I was talking about because this book made me cry more than once. And I’m not talking about happy tears. Where Angels Fall sucker punched me in the emotional department, and I was not prepared for it. I was left heartbroken at the end after what our main characters endure and all I can really say is that I’m glad book 2 comes out fairly quickly because I’m really hoping it’ll help put me back together emotionally. If you’re not afraid to have your heart ripped out I would definitely recommend this book. I fell in love with Delaney’s writing after her Obsidian Brotherhood series, and I would probably read anything she puts out, so you can imagine how quickly I signed up for her book tour for City of Sin.
Delaney has a masterful way of connecting our main characters through events in the past and present that we as the reader slowly get to see how everything is connected throughout the story. I can’t wait to see how some of the other events connect them. And I know I am being pretty vague but again I don’t want to give away spoilers. Just know that we start with our FMC in high school and then through college with big and little events throughout that time that connect her and Cal together when they didn’t even know each other yet.

This book will haunt you.
Maks is the kind of FMC that you can really relate to - especially if you were ever a nerdy, shy kid, harboring a major crush on someone you thought was out of your league.
Reid is the kind of MMC that you swoon over. With quotes like:
"When I finally make you mine, I want you to remember every detail."
"Guys like me don't deserve girls like you."
"I'll probably destroy you, but I can't seem to stay away."
"When I said I wanted to ruin you, I had no idea you'd be the one ruining me."

He's .... swoony freaking worthy.

Then ... there's Cal. Cal Suppato. Like a Katy Perry song - he's hot then he's cold. It's a coin toss as to which one Maks is going to have to handle deal with that day. She works for his father's restaurant, and has strong suspicions about whether or not the Suppato family is involved in the mafia.

And that's before we even get to any of the twists. . . . Maks and Reid start a beautiful relationship in high school ... and they counted on being each other's forever ... but will they?

When life throws curb balls in their direction, in the Big Easy, they learn nothing really is. . . especially not love.

Get your tissues, get lots of chocolate, order your comfort food, and settle down for a good read. Just be prepared to have your heart broken in the best ways.

Delaney is known for her dark, dark romances, but 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘈𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘍𝘢𝘭𝘭 was an entirely different experience. Now don’t get me wrong, there were still some dark elements throughout, but this is by far the most emotional book I have ever read from her. I literally cried for four chapters straight. FOUR CHAPTERS! My heart and soul were unequivocally decimated, and I just didn’t know how I was going to move forward from the pain. I can’t stop thinking about this book, and my heart is still in total disarray, even a week later, and I’m dying to see how Delaney is going to repair it throughout this series.

This book centers mostly around Makenna and Reid and their fairy tale love story. We see them fall in love and how that love transforms from adolescence to adulthood. We see their struggles but also their perseverance to get through the tough times. While reading you’re on the sidelines rooting for them the entire time. Their romance is hauntingly beautiful but heartbreakingly devastating all at once.

A series of unplanned events led Makenna and Reid to cross paths with the ever mysterious Cal. Secrets from that night become revealed in more ways than one as the years progress, and Makenna winds up working as a waitress in his father’s restaurant. Delaney gave us just enough to see a little into the depth of Cal’s life but held back just enough to keep us on the edge of our seat. But don’t worry, this story is not a love triangle, and there is no cheating that transpires. Just trust me when I say to go into this book blind, and fall in love with these characters just as much as I have.

This book is downright brutal, intense, raw, emotional, riveting, all-consuming, and unbelievable. Once I started, I could not put it down. I was utterly enamored and consumed with this story, and I’m dying for the next installment to see where the story goes from here.

“Where Angels Fall” is book 1 in the “City Of Sin” series.

Delaney Foster is an incredible author who will have your full attention right from the very first page. I found myself completely and utterly consumed by this story.

Mak and Reid are high school sweethearts. They have that forever kind of love that every young woman dreams of. They are completely besotted with each other their love is timeless. I absolutely loved watching Reid and Maks relationship develop and blossom into something extremely beautiful. When Reid makes a decision that will alter their life completely by joining the marines they must learn to adapt to life apart and cherish the moments they have while their together.

I went into this story completely blind. I had no idea that Delaney Foster was going to render me speechless and completely pulverise my heart. I was left a broken hot mess and I am still thinking about this story hours after I finished. “Where Angels Fall” is brutal, intense raw and a highly emotional journey that you won’t want to miss! I can not wait to continue this series. I need book 2 like I need my next breath. This story is an epic masterpiece that will stay with you for a long time coming, I know it will stay with me.

Ya’ll need this story in your life so make sure you one click this beauty.
