For seventeen-year old, Kat Harper her life in Savannah, Georgia is perfect, but it all changed with one note. Her mother’s sudden departure forces her father to move Kat to the suburbs of Chicago.
Trading in her flip-flops for snow boots, and wanting the next six months to blow right by so she can go off to college in the sunny state of Arizona, she makes a plan. She does her best to stick to it, but Cameron Tate seems to pulling her further away from them.
Cameron Tate is on every girls list of who they’d want to date. When he sees Kat, he’s instantly drawn to her, but she wants nothing to do with him. He refuses to give into her ice queen act, even after the upfront rejections. She can only avoid him and her now growing feelings for him for so long before she falls. But after her mother left she’s afraid of being hurt, and doesn’t want to lose anyone she loves ever again. With college around the corner how could this relationship possibly work?
Kat must come to a decision in the road, take a chance on Cameron or just go their separate ways?
Young Adult/ New Adult author. Lover of books, fine wine, chocolate, and movies. Mom to two awesome kids, and one insanely crazy boxer, who keeps me busy.
I'm not usually one to give poor reviews and I appreciate how difficult it is to write a book told in dual narration. That said, this book could have been a good read, but the dual narration meant that neither POV was fully developed. The story would begin from Kat's point of view and gloss over important pieces of the story to be then retold from Cameron's perspective and vice versa. I would have rather had a single narrator who was fully developed than not enough of either. In addition, the story was repetitive and there wasn't enough tension to keep me from skimming. Cameron likes Kat. Kat likes Cameron. But. Always a but. Rinse. Repeat. After the third round, I was looking for more variation or at least a different reason, but the story just kept recycling itself. Lastly, I couldn't overlook the lack of editing. Spelling and grammar mistakes abound! One particular pet peeve, which is repeated throughout...she/he peaked my interest. No, no, no. It's she/he piqued my interest. That in combination with the sudden tense changes and random commas definitely didn't help an already weak story.
Where to start, where to start? Well to be honest, this book was really not that good. I mean the plot was a nice one, something that would have been a very interesting read that relates to people all over the world. Well the downfall was our heroine Kat, she was just terrible, oh man, half of the time I wanted to shoot her and the other half I wanted to smack her across the face. Dealing with here mother just up and leaving here I completely understand her not wanting to let people in so easily but she put it to a new extreme. I barely found anything redeemable about her, at one point in the book, when she finally let Cameron I thought maybe she would actually become stronger and a person that I could relate to. But then she ruined it. And all the other points when she wanted to get him back you could never tell until she did it! I never knew what was going on in her mind, she was so wishy-washy, it was just terrible.
Well there was some redeeming qualities in this story, praise the Lord for the side characters, especially Cameron. Thank goodness we got to read from this POV every other chapter, he made this book worth the 2 stars that I gave it. He actually showed his emotions and you could empathize with him. I mean I would go out with this boy, he really proved himself over and over, again, Kat did not. Her father and her soon to be stepmother were nice additions as well, along with her BFF Jess and her new friend Gabby. They were also bright stars in this dim book. I liked them better because they seemed sensible! In the end, I bought this book because it was 99 cents on Amazon, and I hope it stays that price. This book also had terrible grammar at some points. Not something I would really recommend but for Cameron, maybe.
I wouldn't recommend this book. Well, you can read it if you have nothing more worthwhile to do...like count to a million in your head (I can never get past 1,000. Something always stops me.) I actually want to go punch this author, I know violence is not the answer and stuff but this book just made me want to hurt someone and i wasn't really up for self harm and I doubt my friends would appreciate me punching them every time I read a bad book... I mean most of the crappy romance sector of books on my kindle don't really have a story line, but the characters in the books or the actual writing is good enough that the books are good. This book however has a melodramatic, attention seeking, annoying, crazy, stupid, drama queen for a main character and a guy who is in 'love' with said crazy kid ... After about a week. Seriously stfu. He's hot but... Just go away. Then you have this typical cheerleader 'Barbie' and a crappy confrontational scene which makes me think that maybe all girls in this town are crazy. The seventh or eighth clue that this book may not be that great. The main character is one of those girls who thinks she's different but is actually just exactly the same. She's like omg omg I can't make friends cause I'm leaving IN SIX FUCKING MONTHS. That's half a year. That's a long time dipshit. And obviously she cant pick up the phone, dial a number, press call and talk to them, or text them, or Facebook, or Skype, or MSN, or email or FaceTime cause that's just too difficult. Then within a week she's made a friend who is like 'a breathe of fresh air' (original btw) and is 'secret friends' with this guy- due to her fear of said crazy cheerleader despite her claim that she doesn't care what people think. (Bull.Shit.) I understand that her mum left but that does not require two months therapy, does not make you a social recluse nor an 'untrusting' bitch. I say 'untrusting' due to her almost instantaneous ability to trust the only two people who actually approach her in that school. Losing your mum also doesn't require you to constantly complain about your 'terrible' life simply because I'm starving in Africa surrounded by death, starvation and disease, I don't have clean water, spare clothes or education....wait sorry.. those are the thoughts of people who actually have problems! She lives in a mansion with her dad, gets to buy crap online, has an 'Abercrombie look alike' for a boyfriend and two friends. God forbid she fucking mans up and moves on with her life to do something interesting. If my mum ditched me I would obviously be upset but I wouldn't stop living my life just because she's no longer in it. If anything I'd put more effort in to prove to myself that I don't need her. I definitely wouldn't wallow in my misery and hold a 24/7 pity party in my honour. 'Cause what would be the point in becoming a loner when I could just be totally awesome ;) (Harry Potter reference number one...If you have to ask you'll never know ;)) but seriously... Move.on. Ugh. Secret friends. What the actual fuck is this? Let's review: can't write. No storyline. Bad characters with absolutely no developments.( If they were real I would be embarrassed to be associated. And by associated I don't mean seen in public with them, I mean being of the same species of them...) HOW WAS THIS PUBLISHED?! Tbh the guy isn't even that bad apart from the fact that he likes this freak, he's just annoyingly average ya know? Just hoping to save everyone from the effort and anguish of reading this book.
Honestly, I was almost finished with this book and I checked out. I couldn't/wouldn't finish!
It started out good, I admit, but after a while it got ridiculous and I noticed the poor writing and the fact that half the things the characters said, did, and thought didn't make any sense or just freaking got on my nerves. I think it could of been a good story if it was thought out better and reedited. It was just shallow and didn't have any serious depth.
The book is told in two POVs Kat's and Cameron's.
Kat is a really big loner, that doesn't trust anyone and walks around like she is too good for anyone and has a big chip on her shoulder. Honestly, I didn't like Kat. There are many reasons. She just got on my nerves mostly of how she judged everyone but didn't like being judged back. Her drama was uh...idk how to describe it. It just wasn't real to me and came so suddenly, in a weird way.
Cameron is the one of the IT boys in school. He immediately falls under Kat's spell and starts pining for her even though she is a complete bitch to him. He doesn't give up. Over and Over he gets put down by her and even though it hurts him he comes smiling back for more. I have to give him credit that he never gave up. But he also says that he doesn't just want Kat for sex but that seems to be all he tries for. I'm not used to reading about a character that seems like a normal shallow teenage boy. Most of the boys in the books I've read have more depth and I was surprised by Cameron. He's like every real boy I've ever met and that is probably why I'm so turned off by him.
Anyway, if you are looking for a good read, this isn't it. If your completely bored and looking for something to take up time. DING DING DING! Winner!
This book is written in 2 POVS with Kat and Cameron, and it switches back and forth. It just didn't work because one scene would be written in one person's POV, and then the same scene would happen again in the other person's POV. It flip-flopped every chapter, and it just got annoying and confusing really quickly. It was also really repetitive, and you could most likely split the two POVS into two separate books and there wouldn't be any confusion. You'd still get the whole plot.
Anyways. The insta-love thing didn't work for me either. I mean, Cameron literally stalked Kat home in the first couple chapters. Then Cameron pops up out of nowhere and just starts kissing her. What the heck ? They didn't talk or anything before, and just observed one another - then bam! I really wanted to like this book, but it didn't work for me. The summary had me hooked, but when I got the book, it just wasn't that good.
I really don't know what to say. I had a hard time with this book. It was written not in chapters, but in a he said she said style. It is where a scene is played out in both points of view. Truly, I got lost and I typically enjoy this type of writing. I felt the stoy line was interesting and would have loved it, but I felt I missed the main plot somewhere. It was all thought with very little conversation. So when the main characters were declaring love for one another I kept thinking How? They barely spoke and when they did it was hostile. Sure there were moments of bliss, but overall I couldn't see it. I may need to re-read this book to see where I missed it, but to be honest I probably won't.
I liked the premise but the story was a little odd. Half the time, I found myself with violent urges towards the main character Kat. But her "i-hate-you-i-love-you-i-hate-you boytoy/boyfriend", Cameron was just as stupid. Who video tapes his ex girlfriend dancing naked and gives the video to the girl he likes? I mean, really, kids, come on. Even if the intent was so that Kat could embarrass the girl, WTF are you thinking?
I'll give it 3 stars because it kept me interested but frustrated the hell out of me. Pick it up if you're looking for a quick and cheap read on Kindle.

great bookbetter than what i thought is was going to be like. this book keept me intrested and exited the whole way through and if there is a second book i would buy it in a heart beat beacuse this bok never hets boring and i could only put it down a sectain point like i got his ok at nine o'clock and read till 3.30am and i know thats a lot o time to read its a great book and you have to lett the story soak in.
There were a couple of things that didn't work for me with this story. First, was the multi POVs. They switched way too frequently. I couldn't feel anything for either character and the rapid change and sometimes repetitive scenes were left under developed. Also, there were errors with the "tenses". Mid paragraph, the character would go from speaking in first person present tense to first past. I ended up quitting before reading it all.
Felt like I was reading the first draft, not the finished product. There was no backstory (or wasn't written well), certain explanations of what was going on at the moment were missing, like someone accidentally erased a sentence or two, there was absolutely no character development and the whole "I am afraid to love because everyone is going to leave me" thing was stupid. The romance was also meh.
Two stars because it showed some promise at times.
umm...don't really have anything to say about this book...it wasn't a favorite..while I can appreciate love at first sight..it still would have been nice to get some kind of information about the characters and why they felt a connection and why they love one another
Noo... I mean,I read half the book I've never done that, ever. If u knew me you'd understand I'm not really that critical on books or story lines. For me not even finishing the this book, wow. "Never say Never" is not a book I'd recommend . I'm sorry, it just... was bad
The book Never Say Never by Kelly Mooney is about a girl named Kat Harper and her blooming romance with Cameron Tate. Kat lived a good life in Savanna before her dad moved to Chicago because of her mom’s current unstable state of mind. Kat’s life in Chicago isn’t going well, and she is counting down the seconds until she can leave her father’s house and leaves for college in sunny Arizona. Kat is going through a really rough time until she meets Cameron Tate the most popular boy in her new school, and the guy every girl wants to date. Cameron finds Kat interesting and is willing to do anything to get to know her better. Kat is very resistant at first but ends up falling in love with Cam. This book takes you through the ups and down of the relationship and gives you quite a few twists and turns to keep you interested. Mooney’s purpose of writing this book was to show people, especially teens that there’s nothing like falling in loves for the first time. Kat realizes that she is falling for Cam and likes it, “I wasn’t expecting I love you. No guy has ever said those words to me, and my heart feels like it’s about to pop right out of my chest in a good way” (Mooney 55). This book has a very big impact on its audience it gives you an insight on what it’s like to fall in love and what the two people went through to be together. When I read how hard Cameron tries to show Kat he loves her it blew my mind because I didn’t think anyone could love anyone that much. The things he did for her and the pain he went through to keep her safe and happy and to give her what she wanted. This book was very well written, the grammar and was good and the book also gave you certain twists when you thought everything was going to be ok. The plot, in my opinion was written very well it kept you interested and didn’t give you too much information when it wasn’t necessary. The punctuation was also very well placed, “Kat, c’mon, I said it first, I know how you feel. I bet you never kissed anyone like that before. That kiss told me everything I need to know” (Mooney 55). This book was very captivating and attention grabbing. Some books are good at the beginning but start to get boring in the middle, and then you start to get less interested about what your reading but this book kept me reading the whole way through it made me want to know what happens next. The book was very thought provoking and dramatic but in a good way. The greatest strength in this book was the Plot, between Kat and Cam How Cam changed from a sexist womanizer that didn’t care about girls to doing anything for Kat. Also when he took care of her when her dad wasn’t around. Kat also opened up to Cam and let him help her through all the hard aches she went through. Like when Kat’s mom died, “I just sat there holding her until she cried herself asleep. I would never have done this with any of the other Barbie’s I dated before Kat but Kat was different, I loved her” (Mooney 76). The greatest weakness in this book was the way the way they made Kat seem like she didn’t appreciate any of the thins Came did for her, and how they made her look like the weak link in the relationship. I would recommend this book to a friend because it gives you a look what teens go through when they fall in love for the first time. It also lets you know what they go through in relationships. This book also had a very good story and captured my attention the whole way through. Also while reading this book I feel in love with the characters in it and I now for a fact that a friend would too. It also could give you some good advice if you were going through the same thing.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I mean, I loved it, but there was just something...off. Firstly, I didn't like the way Kat handled things. I mean, yeah, she'd been hurt a lot, but why push everyone away and be so unhappy all the time? Didn't she see that she was hurting herself and everyone else with her actions? Ugh, we girls make things so complicated. However, I did love Cameron!! I mean, he was so patient (I guess this is the best word to use) when it came to her. I liked how he didn't give up and was so sincere. But I hated that he let Kat push and pull him around. At some point, I was like GROW SOME BALLS DUDE. But he was in love so I guess I can forgive him for that.
Oh, there were some scenes where things were a bit rushed ad it made the story a bit confusing at some points.... so yeah.
I loved it and didn't love it as much at the same time.
Psss
Read it from start to finish within 3.5 hours in the middle of the night as I just couldn't put it down. A good story, even though I sometimes found the intensity between Kat and Cameron a bit too much and - at times - unbelievable. I guess it served its purpose though, as it had me hooked. The writing style itself did not convince me as such. Too many repititions for my liking and it's all slightly too descriptive with too few interactions and dialogues, especially in the first chapters. The two POVs only work in parts of the book. Still, it has been a while since a book had me hooked right from the beginning and since I read a book in one go. This alone deserves credit.
I love it! I love the idea that Kelly Mooney told the story by using two narrators, Kat and Cameron. I like the way "Never Say Never" told the story by switching point of views between Cameron and Kat ... and mostly in the same situation. I like Cameron. He was a perfect boyfriend. What he did for her was so romantic. And for Kat, I also liked her but I was annoyed her. The story between them made me sappy. I guess that is all the reasons I give three stars for "Never Say Never."
This was somewhat disappointing to me cuz i was actually expecting a lot after reading the synopsis.
Contains an itsy-bitsy little bit of spoilers
I was actually a little confused when reading this book cuz Kat and Cameron seemed to be just, 'click'! Soulmates! It doesn't really explain why they fall for each other, how they fall for each other. To me, it was like, one second they were together, one second their not.
After reading this book... all i can say is its a good attempt on young adult romance. I think the book left me hanging. Its not that its predictable (because it really is not, for me anyway).. its just that somehow, it shows some cliche actions that a person in highschool would do.. or maybe that's the point of the novel? errr.. didn't like it that much but its a good read.
Okay, so throughout most of this book I was just annoyed. Kat and Cameron we're both wayyyy too over emotional towards eachother which came across to the audience as extremely whiny. I read the nook edition and I found several typos and grammar errors that drove me insane. The love story was cute, sure, but the plot was just all over the place.
I was close to giving this book 4 stars because even though it wasn't best written book, I still really enjoyed the characters and story. Usually, I do not care for switches in POV but in this book it works. I liked reading both Kat's and Cameron's side of the story. I think this book was worth buying for my nook.
Reading the frist half of the book I was just dreading to move on. It was all the same. The guy wanting the girl to like him. I promise though it gets much better than that. Lots of drama and it was the normal teenage girl book. but for some reason I liked this a lot moree!!!!
I really think I'm reading to many romances but still I think this was a good one. I thought it was predictable but was still sweet and nice though short in my opinion. Wasn't very thrilling or exciting but over-all good
It wasn't awful, but the author definitely needs to rework her two person narrative. The concept was good. Two person narratives don't work if it's all monologue and repetitive With editing I think the story could be significantly better.
Quick read. Cameron is a seriously hot boy who loves so deeply and truly once smitten. And surely he was. By Kat. Kat can be frustrating. But what can I say? It added spice in this story. Perfect title for all the things Cameron did ;)
