Mead Mishaps #2

That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf

Rate this book
Cheesemaker Brie has the world’s worst luck in love, which is how she ends up falling for a lactose intolerant werewolf, in this raunchy, laugh-out-loud rom-com fantasy by the genre’s freshest new voice, Kimberly Lemming.

Brie’s never been particularly coordinated…or lucky. Who else would accidentally throw a drink at someone’s head only to miss entirely and hit a stranger behind them? And who else would have that stranger fall madly in love with them because it turns out that the drink she threw was a love potion? Yeah, probably just Brie.…

Running her cheese business and dealing with a pirate ship full of demons that just moved into town was hard enough. Now on top of it, she has to convince a werewolf that she’s not really his fated mate. Though even she’s got to admit…having a gorgeous man show up and do all her chores while telling her she’s beautiful isn’t the worst thing to happen to a girl.

Well, if you ever want to read a romance about a woman who falls for a literal golden retriever boyfriend, this is what you’re looking for. The FMC is a cheesemaker (named Brie, of all things) and the MMC is a lactose intolerant blond werewolf.

Brie is given a drink by a creep at a bar, which she does not appreciate, so she throws it at his head. (Iconic behavior.) However, she misses (less iconic behavior) and hits an innocent werewolf bystander instead. Unfortunately, the drink contains a love potion that has him panting after her for the next 200 pages.

Pictured here is Felix’s reaction the second he laid love-potion-dosed eyes on Brie.

The books in this series are short and silly, which makes them easy to devour even though they don’t really hit the spot for me. There is intense insta-love, which isn’t my favorite. I did like book 2 better than book 1, and the light kinkiness in this romance was definitely more my jam than in the last one.

However, even though these books are meant to be silly and self-referential, sometimes things get a little too silly. In this installment, the female lead defeats the big bad evil spirit that’s captured her and wants to possess her by regaling it with so many details of omegaverse sex conventions and the intricacies of mpreg that the evil spirit gets extremely put off and gives up trying to consume her soul. (By the way, this is a technique that would work on me too. I would get the damn hell outta there.)

I might read book 3 for the sake of completing the series and checking it off my list. If nothing else, the Mead Mishaps books are an entertaining way to spend an afternoon.

1.) That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon ★★★

okay, i just love this world a whole lot. this book was even better for me, because we mostly got to stay in this little village that has completely stolen my heart. this second installment follows cin's best friend, brie, who is also a big lover of paranormal romance, get to live her best romantic main character life. but much like the first book, these also deal with some heavy themes. but there is also so much light, happiness, and laughter within these pages. oh and a lot of steam !

i extra think this one would be perfect for the autumn season. and... i just cannot wait for more books in this series, but i truly never want to leave this world!

“The stoic barmaid and flirtatious orc. I'd read that romance novel any day.”

author's cw/tw: light bdsm, dubcon, violence, sexually explicit content

other cw/tw that i wrote down while reading: drinking, harassment, attempted drugging, mention of vomit, kidnapping, human trafficking, threat of heart attack/fear of heart attack, talk of abandonment in past, self harm to get blood for magic, cults, mention of plague + sickness, insufferable incels lol

I liked this one even better than the last one.

It’s inevitable really, as the first book in a series is usually bogged down with world building and developing multiple side characters and that can cause a book to drag or pull focus from the story. The second book in a series can focus more on the main characters, their challenges and their romance and have better flow. This is pretty much the situation here.
This book was very well paced and cute. It had a great adventure storyline but the adventure part stayed small and didn’t bog down the love story. It had depth and social commentary, as per the former book, and was varied and inclusive and matter of fact about race, sexuality and sexual preferences which made my woke little heart so happy.
Kimberly Lemming is an irony master and a feminist and might be my spirit animal. The subtext about incels and male hysteria was hilarious and the magical talking sword, Alexis might be my favourite side character in the history of ever.
Now let’s talk about Felix. Oh Felix, you sweet, crazy, tender, dick knotting hunk of werewolf gloriousness. What a sweetie. When the story was told from his perspective I died laughing. He was a crazy, fated-mate, stalker who came on like a bulldozer and he knew it. His love for his girl was delightful. A beast in the sheets and a simp in the streets.
I can go on and on about this book but I won’t. Can’t wait for Dante’s story. That big grumpy dragon needs a woman who loves naps as much as he does.

Just bloody delightful.

“He is strangely adorable for a monster.”

I need more books set in this world. The characters are a fuckin’ hoot, the romance is beautiful, the dialogue and banter is top notch.

I didn’t necessarily care for the focus it had on the plot towards the end, though I love that our talking sword, Alexis, made an appearance. She’s outrageous and has no filter. None.

“She’s being coy!” Alexis shouted. “He had her bent six ways till Sunday in a meadow.”

It just took me away from spending precious time with the main characters, Brie (fellow romance bookworm) and Felix (fine-ass werewolf, need I say more?).
But that’s the only flaw, more so just a personal preference. I just wanted to be surrounded by more of Brie and Felix together. Their dynamic was so sickeningly sweet!

“Who abandoned you sweetheart? I’ll bring you his head.”

I loved this. Kimberly Lemming created something fuckin’ wonderful and warm with this fantasy romance series.

(I’d recommend reading the series in order.)

this book wasn’t as fun as the first and although i did like the romance and the couple i found the book quit boring. also -1 star because the word yeeted is in the title and this isn’t 2015. i realized though these books are funny the author has really a corny since of humor, you can tell by the title and it got annoying in this book.

My thoughts reading: 😂😂😍😂🫠🫠🥵🥵😂😂🤣🥵🤤😂😂😦😦🥹💗

*knotting, tentacle play, and imprinting
The spice is so well written. Some books make the sex scenes kind of cringey but this is not the case with this series. It’s so HOT 😩🥵 you will be gripping sheets and fanning yourself like a sinner in church 🤭

With all the tail-wagging Felix did, how could I NOT love this book

I couldn't have been the ONLY one that found his tail wagging suuuuper cute 😆! Did it remind me of the way my dogs react when I get home after being gone for 5 minutes? You betcha 🤣... but the feelings this brought out in me only made me googly-eyed 😍.

Brie's (whose family owns a dairy farm 🤣) just minding her own business, chillin with Cin (book 1 h), when Jack (OM) comes to try to get Brie to stop giving him the runaround. Now, Brie's tired of his ish (she asks him if he's lost his mind because if he has, she'll help him find it 🤣), so she threatens to hit him with a root vegetable (but not Cin's potato, because that's hers 🤣), yet Jack insists. Jack's so "nice" that he fixes her a drink. When he tries to get her to drink it, she YEETS it at him, but Jack dodges... and the drink hits someone else😬… Felix (Felix is one of the shifters Cin saved from book 1, so I instantly felt for him).

Felix, the big werewolf that he is, turns around, and... FALLS IN LOOOOVE🥰…. okay, well not EXACTLY in love, more like he sees her, he wants her, he has her, he imprints on her...

You see, Brie's his mate, and he does the only thing he CAN do: he kisses her👀. This serves two purposes: 1-it shows EVERYONE that she's his and 2- well, he just felt like it 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣.

Before anyone gets their panties in a twist, instead of Brie using her hands to push his chest, she uses them to rest on his chest 🤣 and enjoys the heck out of the kiss 😅.

You'd think Brie would be excited that she might have found "the one," but the "drink" she threw at him wasn't a regular drink; it was a love potion (dirty scoundrel Jack😑), which is why she thinks Felix is under the influence of this potion instead of truly thinking she's his mate😬.

But Felix knows better🤷🏻‍♀️; so now he has to try to convince her otherwise 😉.

What I loved: possible SPOILERS
—the WHOLE book 🤣 okay, no, but seriously! It was such a delight hearing this audiobook! The narrator does such a good job narrating Brie. I really wish it was dual/duet narration. We only get her voice, even in Felix's chapters 😏

—the TAIL-WAGGING!! OH... MY... GODDDD! 🤣 🤣 🤣 Felix's tail-wagging had me busting up soooo many times! He's just soo excited and happy and in luuuurve that his tail can't help but wag 🤣😅🥹. And Brie asking him if his tail's wagging only added to my smile because poor Felix feels embarrassed whenever he's "caught"🤣 (and then proceeds to stop his wagging)

—How swoony Felix is. Look, my poor Felix is ALLERGIC to dairy... and he DOESN'T. EVEN. CARE. He will eat/devour/drink anything Brie gives him, even if his stomach doesn't agree and yeets it all out, 😬 one way or another 🤣. The SACRIFICE this werewolf makes for her is so damn swoooony and shows what a true man will go through for his love (but also 🤣). On top of that, he's determined to get her to see just how right they are and to understand that this "love potion" is not the reason why they're mates. He's so determined that he's willing to drink one every so often just to lessen her guilt 🥹. The dedication to her happiness is 😭🤌🏻
”You’re not drinking more of the love potion.” Her voice was stern, as if reprimanding a petulant toddler. “I’ll drink an entire barrel of love potions if it means you stay with me.” I grinned, took her hips, and ground her against my cock. “Just like this.”

“Is it really so hard to believe that you’re mine? I’ve been under the effect of my fair share of spells. Nothing has affected me with this much… intensity.”

—^^Adding, him being so anxious he HAS to do things for her, like clean her house, organize it, etc, all while she's resting/recovering. Brie, guuuurl, if you don't want him, I'm SURE there will be PLENTY of women out there that do, including myself 🤷🏻‍♀️ there’s lots of cleaning to be had at my house 👏🏻

—And. ANNNNND, he asks a Titan to stop the bad weather so he can take Brie on a date... he’s just THAT thoughtful 🥹 swoooooon 🥰

—the time I was side eyeing Felix 👀ESPECIALLY when he finds Brie’s stack of book p0rn ahem. I mean, romance novels 🤣🤣🤣
“Please don’t run from me, Brie,” he panted. “It’s getting me a little too excited.”

Judging by the sea of Alpha titles and barrel chested men on the covers, is it fair to say an aggressive approach would work better on you?”

“Should I growl in your ear that you’re mine and toss you over my shoulder? I admit it’s not my style, but for you, Lamb? Anything.” 🤤🤤🤤

“Just say the word, Lamb. Tell me you want me too. I’d be more than happy to fulfill any desires those books gave you.”

—the🔥. This was a much faster burn than Book 1. Felix kisses Brie like at 5% lol and then we get some finger action, cereal eating, tentacles, and KNOTTING (lucky girl!) all by like 40% (don't worry, the tentacles are getting their own bullet😉).

—Felix's obsession with Brie feeling pleasure💦. Umm... yes, please😮‍💨. Felix being on a mission to basically render Brie unconscious with the amount of Os she gets is all a girl could ask for🤷🏻‍♀️🔥. JS #theWorldNeedsSelflessLovers 💅

—TENTACLES!!!!?? LAWD!🥵Give me the strength to survive the hotness that this added to the book😮‍💨. Was it different?? HELLLL YES! I can confidently say that in my *number being withheld* years of reading, I have NEVER read a werewolf that sprouted tentacles during 🔥 time which added to the Brie's pleasure 💦

—knotting... do I really need to say more about this? 👀

—dickmatized. Yeah... there's nothing else I need to say about this, just me being *jealous*😏

—the 🤣 times. First of all, I smiled and giggled throughout, but there were moments where I cackled... and I'm not ashamed 😎

—the fact that Brie is TONE DEAF and Felix is SUPPORTIVE AS F! Like... SWOOOON! Brie can't sing for sh... yet he acts like she sang like a professional singer... 🤣

—Felix's JPness. Umm... Felix is jealous of PAPER!! Yes, PAPER!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 she's touching it and he's like "f*** that page" 🤣 he’s jealous overall, but I was laughing when this scene came up

—Do you need permission to get married? 🤣 bahahaha not Felix💅 🤣 😅 #sorryNotSorry

-👀SONIA'S SWEET TREATS!!!! ERMAGOD!!! 😱My name... MY NAME is IN THIS BOOK! And it's spelled like MY NAME!!!! It needs its own bullet 💅 🤣 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

—Saving kidnapped women. I wish this happened in real life

—Alexis! Another unique aspect of this book- we have a TALKING sword! Alexis was HILARIOUS! She made me smile and laugh... plus, she helps out when she can. Her asking about dragon d and knotting had me screaming 🤣
”Oh, now this is a real treat, Barbara! On our right, you’ll see the shapely ass of some muscular heart-throb as he absolutely goes to town on the woman beneath him. Just look at that form. It’s a wonder and a marvel that her intestines haven’t been crushed into oblivion, what with that massive horse cock Blondy’s slinging,” said the disembodied voice.

“I’m just not that ambitious. I feel like we need some kind of monster manual for demon dick. If nothing else, just to warn the local woman of what to expect.” Alexis gave off another pulse. “Sweet smoldering iron. If I only had a body, I’d jump on that research task with the speed and tenacity of a wild jungle cat.”

“Oh my god, chip my steel, you’re so annoying,” Alexis snapped. “Maybe if you fixed your attitude and took a bath once in a while, women would talk to you. You smell like old cheese and a mother’s regret.”

What I wanted more of:
—Um... more 🔥? I'll have to come back to add to this...

—OHHH! WAIT! A proper epilogue lol, but I'm okay since I know we'll continue reading their HEA in the next book

Overall, I FREAKING LOVED this! lol

⚠️ safety squad ⚠️
-no cheating/sharing/owd
-violence/trafficking/abuse
-OMD- the h has a persistent OM who won’t leave her alone 🙄. It’s cool though cause the H claims his woman 💅
-dubcon ish (but not really)
-H uses a rune against pregnancy
-dirty talk/praise kink/marking/biting/anal play/c swaddling
-HEA/epilogue is in a different character’s POV

The one thing you can expect from Lemming is superb banter, humor, and sexy time. I thought I was going to be able to just read a few pages before bed, nope I devoured book 2.

What I thought was really interesting was Lemming interrogating how can someone give consent while under a spell. Brie was very much concerned that their sexual status would be complicated by having sex and I found myself nodding along like oh very interesting. I also thought that it was quite smart to also play with the idea that the love potion also created a dom/sub dynamic bc Felix literally just wanted to please Brie. Oh I love a good turning a dynamic on it's head.

So we get to read along how they navigate their situationship and let me tell you it was fun and 🥵 . Who would have thought a little summoning spell would include tentacle bondage ma'am!

All of our favorites are back Fallon, Cin, Ushan, Dante, and Alexis. I really thought it was also great to see our favorites back but also see that things have progressed. The town is acclimating to have demons present and not a threat. Demons seeing the possibility of finding a mate and what it means for their survival but also trying to understand interspecies differences. The demons are committed to female pleasure and even bought a book 🤣🤭

Last thing I really enjoyed the way this story took on misogyny. It was interesting (I won't spoil it) how the entity both needed and hated women. You have to read it to get what I'm saying. Oh and the plot twist I gasped 😧

I do think that towards the end especially around the reveal (there's a mystery adventure component) there were a few things left unresolved on the how and why things were happening and whether it was actually resolved. I have questions. 🤔 Even though I still have soooooo many questions this book was so much fun and I can't wait for more books from this series.

This is a 4.5 star for the above reason but I'm rounding up.

I received an e-ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I LOVE THIS SERIES. Kimberly Lemming, hear me now… I need 100 more. ASAP. Preferably Ambrose’s book and then Bash’s.

The whole world the author has created is so genuinely fun. It’s fantasy, BUT it feels different from a lot of other fantasy series, where the life and death stakes are constantly reiterated and the book… the characters… the relationship… the dialogue are all super serious.

No, this series has drunken fights and silly banter, a heroine who reads shifter romance and tentacle porn. The world is just a lot more lighthearted, despite the high stakes. It makes fantasy fun.

So we open with the heroine Brie, who’s the best friend of Cinnamon (the heroine of book 1) being harassed in a bar by a human man attempting to “court” her. One thing leads to another and she throws a drink spiked with a love potion, only for it to hit Felix - the blonde werewolf from book 1. She’s horrified, he’s smitten - he swears they’re imprinting, she worries about him being unable to consent due to the love potion.

So while she’s trying to break the spell, he’s trying to convince her their love is 4 real. Oh, and some local ladies are disappearing.

Try it. You’ll like it!

She’d come around. I just had to be patient. Calm. Avoid dairy.

+

“I promise not to ravish you in the night. We can put a wall of pillows up, if that would help.”
She widened her eyes and nodded. “Oh, of course, a wall of pillows! The one true way to stop a werewolf! Why didn’t I think of that?”

+

“Beloved, not that I don’t trust you with my life, but do you know what you’re doing?”
“Not at all,” she said. “But Fallon said it was a do or die situation, so let’s give it a try.”
“Wasn’t fucking our way out of this also an option?”
“Fucking our way out is Plan B.”

+

A low thumping sound knocked against the porch railing, but it was too dark to see what it was.
“Alright,” he said.
“Is your tail wagging?” I asked.
“No.”
The thumping stopped. He is strangely adorable for a monster.

So very bad.

Terrible grammar. No story nor development nor depth. Cheap quips and flippancy that were cute in book 1 and have since worn out their welcome. Redundant smut that’s crude, not sexy, and bereft of any and all romance. And superficiality all around.

DNF at 46% after lots of skimming hoping the charm of book 1 would return at some point. It did not.

Y'all these books are HILARIOUS! The titles are absolutely indicative of the kind of irreverent, tongue-in-cheek humor you will find in these steamy fantasy romances. In this one we get a lactose intolerant, bisexual werewolf, a plus size heroine, and villains who turn out to be ye fantasy incel cult (which had me cracking up). Some of the specifics of the relationship with light BDSM and knotting (look it up if you need to) aren't typically my thing but I just loved the characters and the humor so much I'm not too bothered. This delivered delightful fun with a side of steamy romance. I will absolutely be reading the rest of the series.

If I didn't know it was a love potion, I'd have thought she yeeted aphrodisiac on him.

I WANTED SOME CUTE YEARNING, NOT GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS OF HOW AND WHERE THE HERO WOULD LIKE TO INTIMATELY ENGAGE WITH HER!!! I WAS SO UNCOMFORTABLE!!!

There's a time and place for dirty thoughts. But HE missed the memo.

This was such a slog to get through...

After reading and loving the first book of this series, I was really looking forward to the second installment - unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge disappointment.

The plot, the writing, the smut... everything was a bit lackluster in my opinion. I also didn't like the main couple nearly as much as Cinnamon and Fallon...

“Potatoes are by far the most versatile crop. You could fry them up, bake them, or throw them at undesirable men who refuse to leave you alone. At least, that’s what I enjoyed doing with them”.

Esta reseña será breve porque no encuentro las palabras exactas para expresarme y poder hacer una reseña en condiciones. Solo vengo a decir que la autora ya se encuentra en mi pedestal personal.

“Maybe if you fixed your attitude and took a bath once in a while, women would talk to you. You smell like old cheese and a mother’s regret”.

“My demands are reasonable. I just want to go to the beach and see half naked men running around. The way nature intended”.

Tengo muchas ganas del tercero y poder comprármelos todos en físico. Lo juro. Pienso llenarlos de post-it de todo lo que he acabado apuntando.
¡Qué grande la autora!

This series is so funny! Felix is adorable, him and Brie are great together. Also more Alexis!!!
And the language/ writing style is so easy and humorous-- like I laughed every time I read Brie yeeting something. The scene versus the big bad made me laugh so, so hard. Made me love Brie and her reading choices so much.

The cast of characters is great, although we don't dive into them too much because this is a shorter book, but for what this is-- humorous romance with a fantasy flare-- it is great. I am really looking forward to the next book and seeing what Dante's woman will be like!

Reread(2024) all the stars. A fucking delight. Still a favorite

Original(2022)-I would read Kimberly Lemming's grocery list at this point. This, like all the books in this series so far, was fucking magical. It was funny, sweet, spicy and had a touch of adventure. We got to catch up with characters from past books while getting more fun little peeks into love matches to come. (I mean even Sunshine and Balabash had me grinning like an idiot)
I can honestly say that even though I loved Cin and Fallon in the first book...Brie and Felix have my heart. A lactose intolerant werewolf in love with a cheesemaker, come on it's to perfect. Even though I'm not a big "highlighter" when it comes to books I lit this one up like a christmas tree.
Book 3 now please !

On a completely personal note, I read this book in one day. Then had something really awful happen in real life that next morning...so i picked this book up again and immediately reread it. Because it made me that happy.

All I wanted was a cute fantasy RomCom. A cheese maker and a friendly werewolf, how could this go wrong?

What I got was tentacle 🌽. I mean I’m not a prude but Jesus Christ I feel like we should have had some warning. Like nothing about this cover or synopsis screams prepare yourself for 🦑 outta nowhere and 🍆 shifters. There was also plenty of times consent was questionable at best 🚩.

On a related note I will be taking a break from this genre. And possibly getting my aura cleansed. Maybe deleting this from my history all together.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This trilogy is absolutely delightful.

This is smaller stakes than book one, but just as smutty and fun. It tackles romance novels (very meta, love it), consent, and incel culture, AND it has a talking sword!

What's not to love?

Incoming rant review below.⬇️

At this point, I fully admit I’m hate reading this series. I didn’t mean to end up in this situation; it just sort of happened? Okay, so in book one I liked the concept but wasn’t sold on the execution/writing, BUT there were these side characters that appeared during the action part, like Felix and Ursha, that made me continue on. Then, once I realized that book two is Felix’s story, I thought, “Let’s give this another chance; it’s cutie patootie, golden retriever Felix! Right?” Wrong! Felix turned into the same possessive, “I’m sorry I’m crossing the line, but I also won’t stop crossing the line,” stalker, “I love you, yet your opinion be damned” alpha male like the first one 😫. On the plus side, similarly to the first one, the side characters, such as the orc Bal and Alexia the talking sword, kept me reading and entertained.

If anyone besides myself has made it this far, you might be thinking, Girl, what is your problem? Stop reading this. You’re right. It was my intention, as I don’t care to read about another demon finding love, BUT based on the synopsis, the FMC is a long-lost character mentioned in books one and two. Now I must read the third one just for quite literally the plot.🫠

I like the humor in this series and while I know the main male characters are called “demons” they mostly fall within my comfort zone like this one, the werewolf. I will admit this one pushed against more true “monster romance” and I skimmed to get those those bits because that’s not my thing. I really liked the moral dilemma Brie went though and appreciated the focus on consent. Brie is hanging out in the pub with her friends and telling Jack no for the hundredth time. Jack offers her a drink and she throws it, hitting a werewolf who tells her she is his fated mate. All kinds of hilarious chaos ensues after this. I liked the first book better and I am very excited for Dante’s story, but honestly I was excited for this one because I loved Felix in the first book.

This was a palate cleanser book… here for the vibes and no thoughts🫶🏼 I honestly had a better time than i thought I would and was fully immersed in the story (even tho it is more of a novella length book)… I was constantly cackling throughout the book and I am SO excited to read the rest of this series!!

loved the humor, especially the line "you smell like old cheese & a mother's regret" lol in terms of the romance, i appreciated the tension more than the actual intimate moments. i hated the sex scenes. also wasn't too big of a fan of the fantasy plotline & just wanted it to be over by the end. i liked how the epilogue leads well into the 3rd book, but hated the cliché in said epilogue as well.

This book is a hilarious, heartwarming, cozy romance fantasy💛. Very Insta-love. Boy who is obsessed🙌. A fmc who is a baddie👏. Very lighthearted. Very short and easy to get through.

“‘Please don't run from me, Brie.’ He panted. ‘It's getting me a little too excited.’” 🫢😳…😏

“You're just a little dickmatized. It happens.” 😃😂
