This is an excellent sociological study of Ger Hasidic women living in a development outside of Tel Aviv in the 1980's. The author posits that even though the women are educated - they are literate, sometimes speak multiple languages, and seek further education in their spare time - the patriarchy they live in insists that their knowledge remain only surface level, and the women have internalized this message, and rarely do anything but passively consume halachic knowledge.
For a reader who knows nothing about the community and who, unfortunately, does not have the luxury of time, the book is poorly organized...But I'm sure it's a fantastic book for readers who are already familiar w/ basic terms and look for vivid and nuanced stories of life.
